TI AM a newbie… I’ve been reading through this Forum for days and have only scratched the surface of what is available here. Your information is massive, (and kinda scattered all over the boards), so it’s unfair to imply that a newbie is too lazy to figure out where to start in the world of vaping. Yes, we want guidance because, of course, we’re newbies… We just want to know what works for all of you, and why you prefer certain models over others. We hope that through your experience, we will find the one that will work for our needs at the time. Most smokers - turned – vapors (especially the girly girls), have a an idea of what we want to start with. Some newbies have no idea where to begin. This is why some of us will ask and re-ask the dreaded “what kind do you recommend”? It’s because we don’t have the first clue about the various choices out there, and we’re feeling pretty secure that some of you have those answers……

Be kind to the newbies… If you notice someone is recommending a model that may not fit the questions being asked, simply add your own two cents in. Most newbies are hoping to receive several opinions to choose, and from those of you who actually have the experience to share.

I think it’s great that you seasoned vapors are willing to help those of us just coming aboard. It is gives us the courage to take these steps in hopes that one day, we will be tobacco cigarettes free. You’re encouragement on this board is worth far more that you realize… (even when you debate over issues). It’s gives us something to think about…

A few months ago I was introduced to e-cigs through a friend who quit smoking analogs after trying the electronic version. (it’s the same time I was diagnosed with COPD – ugh, very early stages of the disease). I’ve smoked more than 30 years (2 pks a day). I purchased an njoy at a local gas station. It’s was a bit strong, but I was impressed with how much the experience resembled actual smoking (a cigarette). It didn’t hold my attention for very long because it ran out of smoke/vapor too quickly and the cartridge refills seemed a bit costly. (it also tasted a little bit like licking an ashtray) NOT that I’ve ever licked one… LOL

A couple weeks ago I purchased a better quality e-cig in the mall (beneficialcigs.com). This one has flavored disposable cartridges. I’ve since learned (through this board) how to refill the cartridges with my own creations. This has been kinda cool… only nicotine free so far. I’ll add that later if I need to…

Back to the reason I began writing this post… I’m researching my next e-cig purchase. There’s a lot out there to pick from, and it gets confusing for someone who doesn’t have the experience you guys have. I’m a girly girl… nothing bulky for me. I want a sleek feminine look that puts out a powerful vapor and hit.

Any suggestions? (
)

If you want something that resembles a cigarette, I would start with a KR808 device. I started with the Volt by Smokelessimage and I like it. They have prefilled cartos (the piece you screw onto the battery) or blanks that you can fill yourself. There is also Vapor 4 Life, which has a loyal following on the forums. There is no stupid question around here, so ask anything you like. The choice though, is ultimately yours to make. Welcome to ECF! :)

I got an eGo-T, but quickly discarded the tank. I'm using a Boge 2.0 cartomizer, and it is easier than refilling the cartridges all the time. My kit was from gignot.com, and I had the option to upgrade to a 1000mAh battery for $4 more, which was cool. Mine is in pink, and I think it's pretty, and feminine enough. It's not tiny, like a cigarette, but not huge, like a cigar. It fits me perfectly. I've had no problems with it, so far, after 4 weeks.

After getting the Boge cartos, I'm definitely getting the vapor/TH I was missing with the cartridges/atomizer.

Hope that helps, a little, and WELCOME!!!!!!

Most people here are extremely helpful to new people. I am not sure which post you were talking about. It may have been a rant, but I don't see people getting upset when questions are being asked over and over again. The truth is what works for me will not work for 10 other people. Back to the questions other then girly ( which plenty of e-cigs come in pink and purple) and sleek what else do do you want. That questions isn't easy to answer from your post.

Welcome!

I'm not a girly-girl, but I'm new enough in the world of vaping to know where you're coming from. I prefer being discreet.

I've been on this forum for hours every day for three weeks trying to learn as much as I can and pay it forward, correctly, whenever I can, because I believe that strongly in vaping as a harm reduction option for smokers. I also have a few friends that are interested and still hesitant because it can be overwhelming, confusing, and down-right scary.

I started out with a "skinny" that looks like a capped ink pen and it got me off the analogs . . . for good! The continuing cost and tiring inconveniences soon had me looking for an upgrade. It came in yesterday and I couldn't be happier!

Here's where I started and where I am. Good luck on your journey and the very best wishes!!

Is that mall cigarette a KR808? I started there but grew tired of worrying about charging every 3-4 hours. If you don't mind a battery that is larger than a traditional cigarette, my advice would be to look to the batteries with higher mAh ratings. Riva kits are cheap from Liberty Flights and similar sites, and would be a good next step.

I found that the more I research before making a purchase - the more I get for the money I spend.

Cheers!

Hi icangels and welcome to the forum! There is definitely a lot of info out there to weed through, and I'll provide advice based on my experience:

If you're looking for an e-cig the size of a cigarette, buy an e-cig the size of a cigarette. Their battery life won't last as long as some of the bigger battery model, but there are some really good slim-sized ecigs out there.

I started with the GreenSmoke (a KR808D-2 model) which was good but overpriced and hard to find compatible parts and blank cartomizers for. For those reasons, I wouldn't recommend any KR808D-2 model. I then tried the Ego-T based on all the recommendations on the site, and never liked it. It was too big for me, and it didn't feel like smoking. A lot of people love them, but they're not for me.

Then I bought the VOLT from Smokeless Image (similar to the Bloog or Halo G6). I LOVE IT! It's the cig of a cigarette, easy to use, produces huge plumes of warm vapour, has a good battery life for a small cig. The customer service at Smokeless Image is awesome, and they carry a lot of accessories (diamond end caps to make the LED lights sparkle), shiny battery wraps, batteries in a nice range of colours, etc. They also sell a personal charging case (pcc) which lets you charge your batteries in your purse while you're on the go.

They sell a good range of flavours (RY4 -a caramel tobacco flavour, ice menthol, and classic grape are my favourites) of pre-filled cartomizers for a good price, and also sell the juices so when you find your favourite flavour, you can top up your pre-filled cartomizers or fill blank cartomizers with the juice. Cartos are really easy to refill and can be refilled over and over again before you either clean them or throw them out. They sell sampler packs of cartos so you can taste a wide range of flavours without investing a lot of $$. Or, there are tonnes of places to buy e-juice from.

I would always recommend just buying sample sizes from vendors to start with though, because tastes are really subjective. What one person raves about you might think tastes like feet. lol. It's really that subjective. Coffee doesn't always taste like coffee, and cherry doesn't always taste like cherry, so just because you like the real thing, doesn't mean you'll like to vape it.

As for automatic vs manual batteries, many people prefer manual batteries, but I prefer autos. It's a personal preference. Smokeless Image sells sealed automatic batteries, so they would be very hard to kill with a juice leak. I've been vaping almost four months and have never killed an automatic battery, even the unsealed ones. If you end up buying a VOLT starter kit that comes with two batteries, I would recommend getting one auto and one manual, to try them both to see what you prefer.

Whatever model of e-cig you choose, just make sure you get one with a common threading (either KR808D-1 or 510) because then you can buy batteries or cartomizers from almost any vendor.

And make sure that if you want something girly looking, get something girly looking. Girly doesn't mean weak. I've 'blinged up' my VOLT batteries with diamond end caps and rhinestones and I still think it beats the performance of my Ego-T. lol.

Good luck with making the switch to vaping. You won't regret it! :)

Icangles-I started with SmokeTip. They look like a cig, but have several personal favorite advantages.

1)Easy draw
2)lots of flavors-most LOVE the vanilla
3)Easy refill cartomizers-and they can be filled many times more than others.
4)Life time warantee on batteries. TRUELY! Send and dead bat. back and get a new one.

Draw backs
1)Little bit more expensive than some
2)Not as compatable as some other styles i.e. 510's

Welcome, your new life awaits. Its gonna be a great ride.

TI..........I want a sleek feminine look that puts out a powerful vapor and hit..........()

Unfortunately what you want does not exist.

Rule of Thumb: the more it looks like the real thing, the worse the performance.

As long as you don't feel a slim cigar or sharpie pen sized model is not "too manly", then you are in luck. A good beginner model with good battery life and hit for it's size is the E-Power 510 or the Kgo. Many woman on ECF use these models. They will give you 5 - 6 hours on a charge instead of the one hour you will get with the mini models such as the 808. Here are several reputable suppliers:

Crystal Clear Vaping

KGO 1100 mAh 2 battery kit

They even come in pink.

+ 1 on the above. a KGO/Riva kit is a good middle ground for not wanting to blow the bank on a mod and not wanting to have something that you need to constantly recharge.

cartomizers are also great. 1.5 ohm dual coils or 2.0 single coils are great on 3.7 volt devices like the KGO/Riva. they also tend to be rather cheap, last quite a while, and can hold various amounts of liquids, from 1ml to 4ml. the 1.6ml models tend to be the perfect price/performance of the bunch.

Just before I posted this, I had landed on a thread concerning excessive recommendations for the EVO. (No idea where in the forum I read this lengthy discussion). A couple of the responses in this thread point blank said that newbies who ask for recommendations are too lazy to research for themselves. The thread was closed so I couldn't respond directly to the posters & I hadn't registered yet. I just wanted to let him/her know that we're not lazy, we're confused and want to try to get it right the first time if possible... Most of the newbies have spent hours, even days, looking through the posts here before we sign up and join in.

Thanks guys...

The same drawbacks you had with the pv you tried you are going to experience with any mini.

What's more important to you, form or function?

If it's form, purchase a KR808 but make sure you purchase additional batteries and a personal charge case. That works for many people. It wouldn't work for me because I lose patience with battery changing plus I really need low resistance cartomizers to mimic the smoking experience. They can't be used on smaller batteries. My mother started with a KR808 and quit about 80%. She stopped smoking completely when she moved to a bigger battery model.

If it's function, get a bigger battery model and some low resistance cartomizers.

If you enjoy vaping, neither will be the only pv you use. Try either one and see what you like or don't like about it and move on from there. Both pvs are cheaper than a carton of cigarettes in my state.

Good luck.

They only thing that bothers me about some "newbies" is they ask for help and then never come back to the thread and follow-up or show any indication they even read the responses.

I just wanted to add that, unfortunately, sleek (as in slim, cig size) + powerful vapor, are not really congruent when it comes to ecigs. As someone above pointed out, the closer it resembles a cig, the less powerful the performance.

That said, when you are starting out, you really don't have a frame of reference other than a cigarette. Also, there is no question that the slim-style ecigs work wonderfully for the 'transition' from cigs to ecigs, especially for those intent on carrying and using something that closely resembles a cigarette. Once you have safely crossed that transitional stage, you may be more interested in battery life and performance rather than size and aesthetics. Others may choose to skip the slim style ecigs and opt for the bigger battery (eGo style) right from the get go. It really is an individual journey so it's important to determine what is important to you.

(Just my :2c:)

Keep on reading and don't let a few sour apples ruin your ECF experience. There are tons of veterans here that spend a lot of time helping out newbies. I am a member of the box mod squad so probably not the best one to recommend a slim ecig...altough I have heard good things about the Volt.
If you haven't already found this thread...http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/225727-pictures-your-setup.html, it helped me decide which ecigs I wanted to try. Started with a Blu, before I found this forum, then quickly moved to a Riva and eGo, which were both very solid pv's. When I tired of constantly fiddling with juice, leaks, tanks, etc...I moved on to a REO and haven't looked back since.
Good luck on your journey and congratulations on leading a healthier life!:)

If they're anything like me (grin), it's because they couldn't remember where they originally posted their first question...
