I would like to get my husband to start using an ego to vape like I do instead of smoking 1 1/2 packs a day, but every time he trys my ego even with different juices he says it feels like he is drowning and he chokes and coughs even taking small drags, do you guys have any ideas? Most of my juices are 70/30 some 50/50 seems to make no difference he still coughs. :?:

That "drowning" feeling is probably being caused by his damaged cilia. The moisture, instead of being caught by his cilia like they should be, is landing directly on the tissue in his throat and lungs, which makes his body think he is drowning.

Damaged cilia is a common effect of smoking. Even I had some of that when I first started.

I would try 100% VG, low-nic juice. If that isn't enough, check out Ikenvape for high resistance 510's (3.0 ohms or so), or get an adapter and a 901 atty (which has a higher resistance than most atties).

It may not necessarily satisfy him at first, but hopefully it may help him overcome that hurdle and cut down enough that his cilia may begin to re-generate.

MistressNomad,

You've explained that wonderfully! Maybe you can add that into a future vid? It seems it happens to almost everyone when first starting out, and was a reason (excuse for me) to keep on smoking for awhile. I think it would help a lot of people to know that it is common to expect at first and that it does go away in time. =) Just a thought....and you make such helpful videos!!! =)

I may write it up on my vaping blog, thanks for the idea. :) I'm in a lot of flux at the moment and having some technical problems that I don't have the inclination to deal with right now, so I've been writing more instead.

Link is in my sig, if you want to see. :)

Erin,

In my case, after ordering and returning two kits that were like analogs and came with prefilled carts (yuk, need I say more?) my boyfriend had all but given up on the idea of vaping all together. I decided that there just HAD to be something more to it to have so many people vaping and loving it. That search led me here. I decided I was going to "get what the big boys have" (lol) and went straight to an eGo. I figured I'd be going it alone as I won't push anything onto another but to my surprise my boyfriend tried and liked my eGo!!! We just found a juice that he likes ALOT so that was a big help too. (the juice is 100%VG for now until we quit analogs all together)

I hope your hubby decides to join you as it is so much easier not to have the added stressors of smelling tobacco while you are quitting. Good Luck!

We have a friend that wants to quit and switch to vaping, and everytime he takes a hit off of hubbys ego, he chokes half to death as well. i explained to him that it IS normal due to his lungs being so damaged from smoking, heck it chokes me first thing in the morning with my first hit! but he HAS been able to use a Fifty-One brand of junk ecig with their basic 18mg tobacco flavor -yuck- without choking at all. less throat hit and vapor, me and hubby found this one gross, but it has been working for him with not choking...now if we can get him past the "image" of getting strange looks when he tries to use it..silly men!
even if your hubby just tries to use it at his leisure, while watching tv or relaxing, taking different draws and just experimenting with how it feels, he may be able to get the hang of it!

Well I guess i could try the 100% vg and see if that helps. I have been making him try the ego at least once a day, but he is getting to where he does not want to even take a drag because he says it hurts and starts choking and coughing, hopfully the vg will work. Its just weird I never had a problem with any of that and I smoked just as much as he does before the e cig. Thanks for the suggestions everyone

I totally understand how you feel. I've been vaping for almost a year and my fiance doesn't have any interest...we've tried different voltage, juice, pv...nothing matters to her. She states if she wants a cigarette she's going to smoke a cigarette!!! So I say "okay", well your holding/carrying your own oxygen tank in 40 years too! :) Best of luck Erin16773, let me know if you have any pointers!

are you talking about high resistance cartomizers for the 510 or atty?

No, regular atomizers. Cartomizers, to me, have a stronger throat hit, which isn't what he would want.

A regular 510 atty is 2.5 ohms. A higher resistance atomizer, like a HV 510, or a regular 901, would give a softer throat hit.

Maybe if he tried using it more like an analog cigar.........puffing with only a partial/comfortable inhalation until he can adjust to breathing again. Funny, the really strong TH and that initial cough reaction from my skeptic friends who thought ecigs were bs and couldn't work has actually been what has a few of them interested in trying vaping now.

I looked on the Iken vape site and can only find the 2.5 and low resistance atomizers, any way you could provide a link to the ones you are talking about?

They don't seem to have "standard" in stock, which would be where you would look for slightly higher resistance atomizers. The HV (high voltage) atties are REALLY high resistance. Too high to use on an eGo.

All Atomizers

Try a 901 with an adapter, or Don's idea, which is a good one - just have him inhale into his mouth only, not his lungs. He will still absorb the nic.

Erin, By your join date, seems we have been vaping about the same amount of time. I know in just a couple weeks I can already tell a difference in my breathing, energy, taste of food, etc. vs smoking over a pack a day. If you have noticed similiar improvements yourself you can encourage him just by talking about all the things that feel better to you now and how vaping is positively affecting you....especially if any of those improvements you have noticed are things you know he has an interest in himself. May provide him with enough incentive to give vaping a fair chance. Good luck and hope he joins u. Quitting analogs was much easier to do with a companion (me and my wife at the same time).

Thanks Don, yeah It sure would be nice to have him quit for his own health
