Hi all -

After talking to a friend at work who also vapes I found out that some of our uneducated co-workers have complained about vaping in the office. Had they come to either of us to ask more information about it, I feel confident that we could have addressed whatever concerns there were or at least curtailed our vaping to make it less obvious. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened and there's the possibility that HR may ban vaping in the office.

I've already provided the 'Dark Truth Behind E-cigarettes' infographic for submission, but I was hoping others may have seen other information we could forward to our HR department to allay their fears. They're probably not going to take the word of a couple of IT guys that it's no more dangerous than the steam coming off their coffee, so professional literature saying the same thing would be helpful.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

I think the best things I can think of would be the following...

You can try to reason with HR, but at the end of the day, it's their company, their rules, as long as they apply them fairly across the board you are stumped.

My advice is to speak to them in a friendly and open manner and accept the end result with grace (unless you have a new job you can walk into, if so, give em hell on the way out)

If they have rules against smoking and smokeless tobacco (dip, chew, etc) then you're probably out of luck.

You can't treat one group of "tobacco product" users differently than another, even though the other "tobacco product" users are doing something more dangerous. And, the courts have already defined e-cigs and liquid as a "tobacco product."

Sorry to say but I think you should just go outside and not argue the situation or inflame the situation.

I gave up on someone today who wanted to argue with me that vaping is worse for me than smoking. Before I started to bang my head against the wall, I stopped responding. Done... ...really not worth my time.

Besides, don't you want to get up and walk around a bit? I find that since I started vaping that I miss my walks outside to have a cig.

They could ban it all, or just smoking and caping, as the fact that only smoking and vaping involve the ejection of particulate matter in concentrations high enough to be visable, they could quite easily and rationally differentiate between dips and chews etc and inhaled nicotine products.

A microgram is 1000th of a gram or 1ug.

A microgram (ug) is 1,000,000th of a gram and a milligram(mg) is 1,000th of a gram

Backing up my point... why put a potato with a microgram of nicotine against something with milligrams of nicotine on the graphic?

Yes and no.

In Virginia at least, our State AG has ruled that smoking bans do not apply to e-cigs since there is no combustion. Now this is a company policy, not the law, but there is some precedence in the vapors favor.
