)Who is a non smoker) That vaping is harmless and is a legitimate method and the best method to quit smoking..

Back story. I have been a PAD smoker for the past 7 years. I have tried to quit a few times the last failed attempt was because I ran out of cartos and the time it took for the package of refills to make my house I started smoking again.. That was 6 months ago... So now it's been 2 weeks or so since I've decided to "quit" again. And so far so good..

So last night after dinner I reached into my pocket and pulled out my V2 and started puffing away... She was quick to comment "do you really need that stupid thing? Your not even quitting smoking and its the same thing you just don't stink."

Talk about P.O'ed I replied.. You ....*ed when I smoked now your ....*ing when I'm trying to quit" and that was the end of that conversation..
m
so what can I tell her to help convince her vaping is legit.

PS I do plan on showing her the replies on this thread.

Thanks.

Wish I could give you a magic answer but her mind seems made up it is evil or disgusting or whatever. We are so good at vilifying "other people's" hangups while ignoring our own. (Unhealthy diet, excess body weight, etc)

I hope she sees the light you are doing something which will improve your health!

Good luck.

You can tell her there's over 4000 chemicals in cigarettes. Many of those chemicals are proven carcinogenic. No study has yet to prove there is anything n an e-cig that causes cancer. She also is no longer breathing second-hand smoke, which is bad for her. She doesw not have to worry about breathing your vapor, it's harmless.

I smoked for over 40 years and tried every way imaginable to quit, including patches, gum, and Wellbutrin. Google Wellbutrin and look as the warnings that goes with it. You can't turn on the TV without hearing commercials about Chantix. Google that too and note the warnings.

Finding out about vaping is the only successful way I've found that allowed me to quit smoking. It is not, in my opinion another habit. It is a way for me to finally put the coffin nails down.

I hate to get into the middle of a fight but.... I hope your gal will see that not smoking is great!!!! Sure, you fell off the wagon but now you are trying it again. Vaping is a safer [much safer] alternative and lots of people have actually quit smoking by vaping Some people then cut down on nicotine while vaping and then quit vaping or only vape occasionally.

I do think it is easy to be judgmental over other people's "bad" habits. I hope she decides to get some facts and be a little more supportive.

It really isn't the same thing. It doesn't have carbon monoxide in it and the tars and other chemicals that a cigarette has. And it doesn't smell bad.

Well, to be honest, I've been vaping about a year, and I'm still not convinced that I'm taking in less nicotine. In fact, if anything, I'm probably taking in more because I vape a LOT, all day long. Nicotine all by itself, the other 4000 chemicals aside, has its own associated health risks, so she may have a point. But just explain to her that you have to start somewhere, and this is FAR better for you than regular smoking.

This is sounding like the best approach.

theres no combustion. the lack of combustion makes it so much safer. even smoking no additive cigarettes, the act of combustion creates a ton of carcinogens. the nitrosamines being one of the most harmful is only present in the smoke. add to that the carbon monoxide that comes from combustion.

i try to educate most of the people i know, ive had this conversation 100s of times with people. no combustion is already so much safer.

Oh she does.. She's a nurse and is convinced breathing in anything other then air is bad for you.. UGH..

Oh yeah. And we all know just how healthy the air we breathe in this modern age is, don't we? Yeppers....no pollutants, or chemicals or anything "bad" in air now, is there!? And how about water? Water's good for you. No chlorine, leads and chemicals in our tap water is there? So healthy for us! How about our food? Ever READ some of the ingredients on the packages of the stuff you are putting in your body? Even the "fresh" stuff...never have heard any news stories about salmonela or e-coli in that. Nosirree. And meat? Why...that's never subject to sickness being passed on, or contaminates. Not a chance.

Yeah. Tell her to think about that...and then ask her if it's really worth griping about your vaping? It's better than smoking in terms of your health. It'll even eventually save you some money. Oh...and ask her about her "habits"...shoes? coffee? chocolate? I'm sure she never had a little indulgence of her own, right?

I went through the same thing with my husband. He begged/harassed/guilted me for years to quit smoking and after many failed attempts I quit my 27 year 1-2 ppd habit. I was thrilled and so proud of myself. However DH bashed on me for months that I was still smoking and "hadn't quit anything" I showed him CASAA's web site and all the information ECF had to offer. I even started running circles around him at the gym and no longer coughed but he wouldn't relent. Finally one evening about 4 months in, he was belittling my new hobby and I lost it. I explained to him calmly, at the top of my lungs  That I am no longer smoking, if you dont ####### like it then you can #### ### ### This is the way things are gonna be from here on out. So I don't want to hear another ######## word about it. And it worked. Now I'm nearly 2 years quit and he's thrilled. He recently said he never believed I'd do it but now he truly knows I'll never smoke again. He even buys me MODs for gifts and has his favorite 0nic flavors he likes to sample.

So don't give up, just put your foot down :)
