Is EVO a specific manufacturer brand, or is it universal? I am looking at buying a new set-up since I am using my wife's 2nd battery and tank from her Kanger e-smart starter pack. There is a small vape shop in my neighborhood that has a wide selection of equipment, and there are allot of batteries that have evo on them. I just want to make sure what I am getting is the real deal, and not a cheap knock-off.
Help me out with manufacturers please

Hello, I don't know jack about the Evo. I'll bump you up to the first page though in hopes someone who does know something can see your question.
Ego is pretty much the style of battery, where as the manufacturer of the battery could be joyetech, vision or some other maker. Ego also refers to the connection type of the battery. Ego being the outer threads on a battery post and 510 being the inner set that a Protank or Vivi nova would use. Even with higher end manufacturer's product quality is sometimes an issue. Have had a Joyetech 650 mah battery fail after a week with the center post falling all the time, and currently using a knock of no name VV battery similar to the 1100 mah vision spinner thats been going for over a month now no problems. When i first started I was unsure of the terminology myself but happened to be doing some window shopping over at DiscountVapers.com and noticed they had a help section Learning Center Some helpful pages on various topics. . Not saying its the end all library, but definitely helped me with the basics
You mean "eGo", not evo. 
eGo is a "class" or type of battery. It will have a power button right on it to fire the juice attachment, and to turn the battery on/off.
This is opposed to the more advanced "mods" or advanced personal vaporizers (APV). These can be of a box or tube form, and use replaceable rechargeable batteries in them. The mod body has the power button. and if it is regulated (variable voltage) it will have a display screen to give the user information.
eGo's are made by several manufacturers in China. The better ones are from Vision and Joy/Joytech. Plenty of knockoffs in this class called eGos.

Yeah, I was just doing a little reaserch and came to the same conclusion. There are multiple Evos. Which Evo they havo?
