Things to try in order to make the switch easier or more fun:

*24mg juice (or up to 36mg)
*flavors you would never think to try.. like green apple or waffles
*vape where you can't smoke, just so you have a reason to vape.. movies, bars, library, elevators.
*vape for 5 minutes before you have a cigarette

things to try if you have a sore throat:

*drink a lot of water or juice
*suck on a throat lozenge or candy
*chew gum
*try switching to VG instead of PG (or a mix of the two)

I had a sore throat the first 3-4 days I vaped but it quickly went away. If it persists you may want to try a different ratio of PG/VG to see if goes away.

Try some new e-juice flavors or an eGo-T to inspire you. There are many good videos on You Tube showing all the new vaping technology and flavors that probably weren't available a year ago. Keep reading ECF because the folks here are so supportive.

I started vaping to cut back on smoking, not to quit. In no time I just preferred vaping and quit. Here are some reasons I am so happy I am no longer smoking.

1) I no longer wheeze. I can take deep, deep breaths without coughing. My energy level is so much greater and I don't feel like napping every afternoon.

2) I no longer stink. One of my son's friend's mothers popped by unannounced and surprised me with a gift. It felt so nice to give her a huge hug without worrying about smelling like an ashtray. Having been a closet smoker, I would have kept my distance and been awkward. It's a real confidence boost to no longer be a smoker.

3) At $10 a pack where I live, I am saving money even with my excessive buying of e-juice and new hardware toys. See my banner below, but subtract a $100 because I just ordered an eGo-T.

4) My tongue is a beautiful pink color instead of white and fuzzy. My gums are no longer receding.

5) My office smells nice and I can keep the windows shut in the winter. It's so much quieter and warmer in here without the fan constantly blowing out the smoke. I'm probably saving money on electricity too.

6) I can vape in bed reading a good book.

7) My skin in no longer dry and flaky. It's now pretty much normal and my circulation seems to have improved.

8) I'm losing weight because vaping great flavors seems to keep from late night snacking.

I wish you success if you decide to try again.:vapor:

Don't worry about the past. Everyone is different. It might take you a bit longer, but don't feel discouraged. Look at it this way every one less cigarette you smoke is one small step toward your personal goal. The key is taking it at a pace you are comfortable with and letting your determination guide you.

I didn't experience sore throats, but my significant did. He used honey in his hot drinks to help with that.

I have always thought that in order to successfully quit smoking cigarettes, you have to be truly sick of them first of all, and you have to be committed to quitting.

It is so easy to come up with excuses to smoke. God knows, I made them all for the past 28 years. Until... I bought the e-cig. For me, it is a complete replacement for smoking and I couldnt be more thankful for these wonderful devices.

Yes, try drinking more and find some flavors and mixes that work for you, but dont give up.

My girlfriend is also asthmatic, so through her I understand it can be quite harsh to make a sudden change. One of her doctors actually suggested she not try and quit. (I'm hoping he meant 'at the time' and not ever. lol) But she managed to make the transition without it affecting her asthma. All good advice above to try and solve your sore throat. The only one I'd add is regarding the PG/VG mix. Since most starter kits and many e-juice vendors only offer PG, rather than waiting on another mail order, consider picking up some pure VG to add to the juice you're using. It'd be a fast way to test if it's the mix causing you issues.

VG is often available in health food stores, and craft stores that have cake making supplies.

Come back and let us know of your progress. :)

I think it's really individual. I wasn't committed to quitting at all. I would have been happy to cut down. But when I started vaping I enjoyed it more than analogs. Simple as that for me. I like it better.

Some people need to ease into it and others make the change right away.

According to this site

PG has been used as the aqueous-based chemical additive in asthma inhalers and nebulizers since the 1950s, with no serious side effects known. PG, because of its water-retaining properties, is the compound of choice for delivering atomized medication. It is also a common diluent for injectable medications, constituting 40 percent of the intravenous form of Phenytoin, an anti-seizure drug.

Sore throats seem typical when people first start vaping ejuice with PG as the base liquid, you can try mixing with vegetable glycerin which might ease the symptoms a bit. Also, as others have said try keeping a drink handy. I would suggest heading over the health section and looking for other people who have asthma to draw upon their experiences and tips.

Best of luck.

I agree with the others, would be well worth you trying either adding VG (vegetable Glycerine) - you can buy a small bottle from most supermarkets in the baking section for about 40p. Or a larger bottle from most chemists for about £1.20. Or also as suggested you can buy VG based e-liquid.

As you are in the UK, check out James' juices at Paradise Vapes, he can mix most of his juices using VG as a base if you ask him.

I agree 100% PG juices (like most prefilled carts that come with kits and many of the juices hardware vendors sell) - that stuff can be harsh because the more nicotine then harsher it is. PG really lets through the TH which is mainly the irritating nicotine.

Try at least 30% VG - i.e. 70pg/30vg and see if that helps. Backwoods Brew is 70pg/30vg and FreedomSMokeUSA offers 70pg/30vg for most of its tobaccos and many other juices.

And if you get a new PV, you need to get the primer off the atomizer first! That stuff is super-harsh and nasty tasting.

100 percent PG irritates my throat. 100 percent VG is a little bland in taste, although there's little throat hit. I've settled on 70pg/30vg as my optimum mix, but there's still throat hit that varies with the flavor of the juice. You might want to try all VG and move up from there to find your optimum mix or maybe start at 50/50 and move one way or the other.
