Oh no, I've been vaping for a year. This is my first dive into mechanical mods. My set-up right before this was the MVP 2 and a kanger aerotank. I know that I AM not doing anything wrong with my nemesis, I posted this to see if you guys could help me figure out what's wrong with IT. Which is clearly the case, my punishment for buying cheap .....

Just picked up 2 Sony VCT5 batteries, and I called the store early this morning asking them to put them on charge so they're good.

Unfortunately, the burning problem still exists, so next point of action is to go back to where I got my nemesis and ask to exchange it.

Only actually seems to heat up those points after pressing the button for around 10 seconds or so. Maybe that's normal? If I do a 3 second hit it's fine, otherwise getting a good lung hit (which is what I like) that's what burns me.

If its the button and tube that means there is a short in the mod. The battery getting hot is a dead giveaway to a bad battery, but you're using brand new VTC5 batteries. The black paint on mods has been a huge problem with hot spots developing. As others stated the only way to really get rid of it is to get rid of those painted threads. I'd ask for either a regular stainless steel, brass or copper nemesis.

Not being ignorant, but I see a lot of people say that when it comes to a mod heating up, but I don't understand what a short means when it comes to a nemesis. It's just all metal lol, metal screwing together, No wires or anything. I completely disassembled the thing and thoroughly cleaned every part and put it together using rubber gloves lol seems the beauty ring is what's most annoying as of 3 minutes ago. I wouldn't want to hold my finger on it to find out what kind of burn it could give me.

I have had this happen to me once . New build , absolutely perfect , no shorts in the atty , took the mod apart and found nothing , fresh battery and Zap again . I looked at the mod under magnification and found a tiny piece of Kanthal lodged in the 510 connection , no idea how it got there , it probably stuck to the 510 connection on the atty when it was removed from the building stand and somehow remained there during the ohm check only to fall in the 510 connection of the mod , it took bright light and magnification for me to spot it , but problem solved . Now I check the connection everytime I put an atty on just to be sure .

pure physics says there's a short somewhere, so after ruling out it's not your coil touching a connector, WITH reputable batteries, then I'd seek a return. I have a Nemesis clone and while not a vaping vetran in almost six weeks it's surely never shocked me.

do you have a magnifying glass? I use my jeweler's/computer lighted one, one of those circle jobs that clamps on to the desk.

    Good luck!

I am purely speculating when I say it sounds like the 510 itself has the short as retic1959 eluded to and the battery is discharging thru the base of the 510 and or the connection itself. Whatever it is, it sounds VERY dangerous and I would take the battery out until you had another Nemi to swap parts out with so you can narrow it down. And if you do not know what kinda batteries you are using at .52ohms I'm in stunned awe sir!
:blink:VAPE SAFE PEOPLE!! SONY VTC4s and UP for Sub-Ohm Builds

If you have a dremel, use a wire wheel to clean the inside and outside threads. This will remove all the paint completely. Careful because some of the wheel bristles can fly off. If you step on one, you'll know it, work outdoors is best. Also make sure none stay in the tubes. The wheel will also soften any sharp or rough/coarse threads giving a tighter lower resistance fit.

Ended up exchanging it for a plain old all stainless silver nemesis at the place I bought it. Just picked up a Atty as well and just got done building coils for it. Running it on the Sony VCT5 batteries.

EVERYTHING IS PERFECT NOW! I can pretty much hold the button for 20+ seconds and nothing at all heats up. Granted the coil I just built is 1.2 ohm but we will see. Thanks for all the help! Great community here!

Just don't know what to do with those mystery batteries...$24 dollars wasted, and somehow I keep buying RDAs and have a Patriot, Stillare and now the Atty all within 2 weeks...bought the Atty cause I wanted clean matching color for the new all silver nemesis.

I have the black chrome plated Nemesis. Mine heats up as well but its because I'm sub-ohming. I thought it was my mod as well but then I started using my Smok Magneto and it heated up a bit. Not as bad as the nemesis though. I'm going to check my threads to see if mine are painted as well. I'm just debating if I should go with magnets or not. How do you like them so far?

I just upgraded my nemesis to magnets and I like it. Not much of a difference in performance but the switch is cleaner, no more trailing hits when I stopped firing.

as a side-note, they are not strong enough to set it down w/o it firing so you would still need to use the locking ring

I got the FatDaddyVapes nemesis magnets and upgrade contacts for my nemesis right now. It has a fogger v4 sitting on it and its sitting right next to me unlocked and not firing :D.

Also the Tobh Atty is a great atty, very very nice. Next pick up the magma or zenith v2 :D

Since the body of the mod is the return for the battery ground, any paint over threads will cause arcing, which will burn or shock you. Plain steel wool is probably not sufficient to clean the threads if the paint is good. You need a dremel with a wire wheel brush, and even then it will take a while to get the paint off. You do not need to do this to the threads of the locking ring but you do on all the other male and female threads. If your atomizer has painted threads, you do need to do them, too. The atomizer threads being painted will probably not burn your hand since you are not touching it while vaping, but the atomizer body will quickly become blazing hot.

I agree that this is a stupid oversight by manufacturers. In the future, never buy a painted mod or atomizer unless there are detailed pictures showing that the connections are not painted, unless you are resigned to cleaning them off with a dremel.

i have a stainless steel black nemi and it used to get insanely hot on the middle threads in like 5 seconds with a .1 ohm build on a patriot using funnily enough the same purple mystery battery that the O.P. had, i blued it using a bernzomatic torch pen, it cleaned the threads and stopped the burning/shock, i still use a .1-.2 build on the same patriot using one of the same four purple inr18650's,
