I wanted to get away from cigarettes all together, which eliminated all the fake cig pv s. For the same reason, I didn't and still haven't gotten any tobacco style juices. I pretty much only vape fruit & mint juices. I wanted to create a disconnect between satisfying my nicotine addiction and avoiding cigarettes for my body/brain/habit/learned behavior.

Noobie here. Long story short, I am currently awaiting a Smokeless Image Volt starter kit, with 4 - 78mm rechargable batteries. Also ordered one of the Volt 1300 X2 batteries (with the passthru) and a clearomizer for home use.

The reason I went with the 808 style batteries is, being new to the vaping experience, I didn't want to stand out in public with something much larger than an analog. I have not noticed any people using a vaping device while out in public in my city, and did not want people staring at me, or worse, thinking I'm using some illegal drug device.

So my question is to you veterans, is there a point where you become comfortable vaping the larger devices in public? If not, then do you use the smaller devices when out in public?

I always use an ego-type advice and especially in public! Simply because in most places it is legal to vape in places where smoking is not allowed. People can easily see that it is NOT a cigarette so you don't get accused of smoking. If you are considerate about it (don't get in a crowded room and blow huge crowds of vapor at people or someone might complain), letting people see what vaping is like can help raise public awareness. Most of the "stares" or comments I get from people are from smokers or loved ones of smokers that want to know if it works, and where they can get one!

Hi and welcome. It looks like you have been steered in a good direction. Eventually you might want to step up to a larger battery but in the beginning something light and well performing in the ego category is a good way to go, just avoid the ego tanks as they were my first setup and was not thrilled with them. Good Luck.

Thanks Tina and Siam. Perhaps down the road I'll feel more comfortable with a larger device out in public. I've been discussing e-cigarettes with known smokers at work and friends. Since I got 4 identical batteries and two portable rechargers with my first order, I plan to loan out a couple batteries and recharger to them to encourage them to stop smoking, too. I hope to be a trendsetter.:vapor:

Hi! Welcome to ECF! I am new too and this place has been so helpful!! You will have to let us know how you like your Volt when it arrives...I share your concern about vaping in public, but I also understand the importance of raising public awareness. I personally have never seen anyone else vape! I got a kGo just this week (my first ecig ever) and so far am loving it. I don't think it is too big, although it is bigger than a cigarette! And I doubt I would want anything bigger, but who knows down the road a ways what I will be ok with. The battery life in this thing is great, especially for the price. Keep asking questions and read, read, read! YouTube videos are really helpful too. Before you know it you will be a pro answering all the other newbies' questions!

I'd suggest an ego style ecig too.
Not wasting your time or money on cig alikes is a very wise move (like so many of us have done).

"So my question is to you veterans, is there a point where you become comfortable vaping the larger devices in public? If not, then do you use the smaller devices when out in public?"

Well I vape on my Ego-C's when out and about as they are not too big. Sometimes witg the tank, sometimes with carto's
I feel that my Provari is a little large for carrying about (especially with the tank on) and dont want to drop it, lose it etc so just use that at home.

One thing I will say is if you find you do get on with vaping you most likely will end up with some sort of mod. Most likely VV.

Happy vaping :)

I never pay attention to what others think. I don't want to live my life like that. From the moment I could upgrade (there were few choices when I started) I did and have always vaped publicly and respectfully. I now use a Darwin and vape it everywhere. In fact, I am in and out of courthouses every week. I've given more police and deputies information on good vaping models than any other sub-group and vape in front of them all the time.

Excellent points, tina. If we hide and act like we are doing something harmful to others, then that is the perception that we are giving the uninformed.

Here's another vote for the ego batteries and a cartomiser ( kanger for me). When I started I wanted to make sure I had something to get me off analogs right away. I ordered a 510 kit, ego-t kit and an Akston hughes starter kit.

I found the 510s too wimpy and I had to be around a charger all the time. They are fun to have but I'd hate to have to rely on it all day, The akston was pretty, but my first one had to be sent back immediately for a fried switch, the new one arrived and after dropping it about three times from my jacket pocket over about a two week period it no longer works either.

The tank system for the ego wasn't doing it for me but when I screwed on a kanger cartomiser to the battery, a cone for looks, and a drip tip, I suddenly had a reliable, usable, not too big and satisfying pv. It's my primary unit and I have no desire for an analog cig at all.

Hope this helps, eveyone is so different what works for me might not,,,,etc.

I was extremely self conscious vaping in public when I first started. What I've discovered is most people simply go about their business and don't pay any attention to what I'm doing, lol. Like tina posted earlier, the only people who have ever commented about it are smokers who see me vaping in smoking areas. I did get kind of a strange look from one of the employees at the outdoor garden center today though. I think he thought I was smoking at first, but then noticed the provari I was using and decided it was ok. I should mention that I don't generally vape in places where smoking is not allowed.

Hi, & Welcome to ECF! I've thought a lot about this question but for some reason, until reading your post here's something that never dawned on me: when I was in my very early teens I felt like (and was) a total klutz on a dance floor. As a guitarist I was fine on stage because when there I felt competent, but dancing was different; I thought I was the center of *unwanted, disapproving* attention. So I hated to dance.

I soon learned however that nobody was paying me one bit of attention on the dance floor, because they were all too wrapped up in what they were doing themselves, most of them as self-conscious as I was . This was back in the early '60s and even then somebody could have had a seizure or something and nobody else would probably have noticed, just figured it was a new dance routine. IOW as long as you *look* like you're doing what you're supposed to be doing and you're cool with it, most people won't even notice.

OTOH if you're glancing furtively around you to make sure nobody's paying you any attention, you can bet your boots pretty soon somebody will be. If you're looking guilty of something, people will just naturally start wondering what it is, so try not to do that. :D

Best of luck, & Happy Vaping! :vapor:

Hi, Carbon. Welcome to ECF!

And congratulations with choosing to make the switch from tobacco cigarettes.

There are going to be as many opinions here as there are members. So, things could feel overwhelming.

Personally, I feel making the leap of faith is easier if you start familiar and then move up to all the more heavy duty stuff later, when you feel comfortable with your decisions.

I'm not affiliated with any supplier, but I am biased to the one that finally got me to quit. I went with the KR808 model, a two-piece that emulates the look of a cigarette. I didn't have a clue about "mods" or APV's (advanced personal vaporizers, as they are now called). I just wanted familiar to start. I needed to keep the rituals while making the switch. A cig with coffee, after dinner, etc., the 808 gave the feel and ritual without the smoke and nasty 4000+ toxic chemicals.

Although I started with a respectable - and expensive - brand, someone from that forum steered me here and to another supplier, Smokeless Image. The batteries are phenomenal, lots of fun colors to choose in addition to the traditional white or black, good carts and also blanks and eliquids, too, and they just recently added an awesome "big" battery for the ATV explorers. Also, great customer service. They have great support, and don't mind talking about using other makers' liquids with their carts and batteries. They make some terrific accessories, the pcc (portable charging case) is a must have when you've make the jump with 808's.

Anyway, it is only my opinion, but I am in favor of starting familiar (even though fun with a new color), trying some sample packs of carts, and moving forward from there. I'm still using my Smokeless Image Volts (808's), even though I did just jump up to the new big battery, the X2. I still can't give up my rituals, even though I gave up the tobacco cigarettes and almost all of the nicotine (I'm down to 6mg, and some 0mg carts and liquids).

There is a lot to go through for information. Do check out the suppliers' forums for more reading and research.

Hi, Baditude!

I was so happy to be able to switch, that I used (and still use) my SI Volts 78's without any qualms whatsoever in public. People sometimes think ecigs are just gimmicks (maybe they were 5 years ago) and don't take them seriously, but I'm also happy to tell them that I haven't had a cigarette since Feb 12, and I didn't have to try and use a patch or gum or some big pharma gimmick to quit the tobacco cigarettes. I respect where I am, though, and I do try to not vape indoors where smoking is prohibited, simply because I don't want to make other people feel uncomfortable. Didn't stop me from handing out a few SI cards in the restaurant this morning though, to my waitstaff who are smokers. I don't care who sees my ATV's, be it the 78's or the 1300 X2. I quit smoking. And I'll shout it to the world! Besides, it made my doctor very, very happy with me. A side note, the X2 is a very sleek, nice looking ATV and I think it's a thing of beauty to use publicly.

I do vape at my desk, and I am in a very no-no place for cigarettes. I didn't ask. I have cubicle walls around me. If someone says, huh-uh, no more, well, I will honor that, but I have also learned stealth vaping for when needed. :)

So, don't worry about what the public thinks, as long as there isn't a specific law or rule about no vape zones and you aren't in one. Proclaim loudly and proudly to your new health.

welcome to ECF!!!

This forum is filled of amazing and great helping people, I once was in your position...
Don't be overwhelmed, I started off with the ego, although I did plenty and plenty of researching before deciding exactly what I wanted, after about 2 weeks of figuring out, I ordered 2 ego 650mah batteries(now wishing i ordered 1000, but 650 work), 2 510 atty's (LR are better, didn't know at the time), and 2 vision stardust (also known as vision ego and are CE2 clearomizers), the atty's are for trying flavors and dripping into, and the vision stardust holds about 2 mL of liquid and I carry to work etc, and don't need to refill it often, once a day... Im a rather less often vaper though, most people vape 5-6 mL a day, i have a hard time getting though 3mL! When i smoked analogs was a pack a week though.

I started off with 24mg liquid, and realized it was way way to high, moved to 18... perfect for me!
Got a ton of sampler flavors to start, and once I figured out what I wanted, I over stocked it in my favor like 150mL of it, so I won't run out for a very very long time.

Happy Vaping Good Luck,
-Seth
