I'll go against the grain and say dive in head first. You can read yourself silly in the forum. You're revved and ready now. That's half the battle. Let's go do it! You have a world of help here backing you up as you have questions.

For less than the cost of a carton of smokes you can have a kit with enough power to keep you vaping for months, some cartomizers to get you started and 18-24mg nic juice. Most people don't get enough satisfaction from a cigarette-sized ecig. You can't go wrong with an Ego, Kgo or Riva. They're all pretty much the same- called 'fat batts'. If something the size of a Sharpie pen is ok with you, this will probably be a good fit. Kgo packs a little more power and the battery lasts longer. It's 39.95 for a kit at hoosierecigsupply and breezesmokes. Egos and Rivas are good also, slightly shorter battery life and a little less voltage. Liberty Flights has them for about the same price.

I like these vendors because you can get everything in one stop
Kit
Cartomizers
juice

It's not rocket science. It just seems like it when you're first getting started and don't know the jargon. Good luck to you.

Well said!!!!

I agree with the jump in head first idea, but do it armed.
Money saving ideas: MANUAL battery. Cant tell you how many batteries I fried filling the cartos on the sticks.
Learn what the difference is for mAh and volts. Mah is how long the batteries last. Volts is how hot the vapor should get.
If you have to get a cig look alike, get something that is a regulated 3.7v or just dont waste your $$, go to fat batteries. EGo is NOT up to the 3.7v. Rivas come in 3.7 and 4.2 volts(I metered them myself to verify). The other than the 650/750 mAh batteries, the higher the eGo type battery goes, the less chance for a warmer vape(they arent regulated). The E-Power is at least one exception to this. Welcome, good luck, and please respond to these so we know we're gettin' thru :)

Mini DSE901
KR808D-1

thanks again, you all have been great!!!

I would go for a 510 and there is more comparability with them and you won't get confused about the different bits you may need ,I had a 510 and it is/was great just battery issues bothered me I couldn't be bothered keep charging one using the other and when that ran out the other was ready.but you can get them with better batteries but as ecigs go they are good.I now have a riva1100 and loving it good look Micky

I'd go with a KR808 over DSE. The Volt is one example of an 808 that gets well reviewed. So I know people like 808s.

You'll need a stack of batteries tho for cig-sized stuff. They only last an hour or two between charges. And charging li-ion batteries is what wears them out. That said, many have used and quit with the super-mini (cig-sized) stuff.

I don't happen do know who vaporleaf is. Make sure you don't get caught up in a proprietary connector or reverse polarity or some such nonsense (IMHO). Make sure it is a standard KR808 so that you can use other vendors if you choose. Other 808 users will chime in here I'm sure.....

thanks again!

i have one more question. can i use these, Orange round empty blank cartridge with a 501?

Not without a 901 to 510 connector.
I have never heard of the company for the 808d-1 you posted. The Volt and this Vapor4Life-Because it's your life - E-Cigarettes/Smoking Alternatives have good reputations here.
If you get the one you linked to and its a proprietary thread, you can only order from THAT company, at their prices. If you get the ones referred to, you will open yourself to more options and lower prices for future orders.
I had 510's when I started out. They are good, but the 808d-1 seemed to be warmer- which is what I preferred.
To each their own.

Having gone through the 510 then an upgrade to a Riva/Ego style and then mods, the Riva/Ego is still my most used pv. They are very versatile, the batteries last all day and have a good long life.

I started with 2 kits (4 full e-cigs) and rotated them for almost 8 months of constant use. I have some very nice mods and still use my Riva or Ego the most. With it you can use carts (what it comes with) drip tips or Cartomizers (attomizer/cart combined). It is a big enough battery to use low resistance atomizers (hotter vape) and not shorten the battery life.

I get almost all my hardware here look for the Riva lite bundle, then a few drip drips, then look for a 5 pack of cartomzers and don't forget to get some juice , best of luck and enjoy the journey and welcome to ECF
Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510

Oh, and don't forget to use the 20% off coupon at the top left of the page!

I can say amen to all of this. I am brand new and got the Riva 510 kit with dual coil cartomizers from Liberty flights. I love it. However be sure the kit you get has a charger that works for you. My charger can only be used on a computer so I have to order another kind also. Both are good to have.

I highly recommend grabbing some samplers of different vapors flavors and strengths.

With flavor, you just need something you like the taste of, but it is very hard, if not impossible, to find a flavor that tastes exactly like your brand of analogs. So just find something you could see yourself enjoying.

On nicotine level I highly recommend getting a couple different dosages as well, use one for a whole day, then a different and experiment what works for you.

I was a bit overwhelmed at first also. luckily a friend made some recommendations for me, and like many have said... I read here and on Vaping Guides to the Electronic Cigarette ( which I'm sure someone already posted..right?) and feel pretty comfortable with my first starter kit I ordered. a lot of the jargon still seems foreign to me though.

My suggestion is the Blu comes with everything you need to get going. Now, as you mature in your vape you are going to find that you will outgrow it pretty quick. But, IMO, it more closley replicates the smoking experiance than a lot of the products that end up being better in the long run. Also some people can quit at once, others ease into it..take it at your own pace.

Mini DSE901
KR808D-1

thanks again, you all have been great!!!

If those are what you're looking at I'd get the kr808 hands down. I like the 808's more than the 510 batts. They have a better battery life and are true 3.7v unregulated. If cigarette like is your aim, The 901 isn't what you want. It has a very long atomizer which makes it unwieldy, and the 901 is a less common device so there will be less variety in how you can customize it to your liking. Oh and as long as you have a good battery you can use inexpensive thread adapters to allow you to use any type of atomizer or cartomizer you wish (510/306, 901, even ego stuff) so don't feel like you are stuck using one kind of carto or atty. The volt may be right up your alley. It's a little more expensive but has good customer service and warranty as well as a solid device. If you will be around the house and in the car most of the time, I would also get a passthrough KR808D-1 Manual USB Passthrough
You can use this to plug in to your computer or wall usb adapter, or a 2amp car usb adapter, and never run out of power. Just use your little batts for when you're away from house or car.
This would be a great idea for you.

Those cartridges are just empty blanks for use with 901 atomizers. 901 and 808 have the same threading so you could use a 901 atty on the 808 batts. I would go the cartomizer route myself, but those will work.

So here's the list I would have if I were you now that you have something in mind.

1. kr808 kit with two batts some atomizers or cartomizers, charger, prefilled carts/cartomizers all included (the volt from smokelessimage.com is a good kit, and you could start with their prefilled cartomizers until you get a juice supply of your own)

2. a kr808 usb passthrough like the one I linked to above.

3. a car 5v 2amp usb adapter to use with the passthrough, and a 2 amp usb wall adapter (optional if plan to use computer)

4. Tasty juice to try. This will be all about tryinig things.

There's your shopping list now get to it.

Probably looking at ~$80 +juice to try. So Expect about $100 startup and then just money for juice and atty's or cartos. Good luck.

Been there, sweetie!! I have not read the whole thread, but hopefully, by now, you have just jumped in and made a decision to go with a starter kit or model recommended by one of the veterans. If not, just do it!! It's better to get started and learn as you go then to just keep doing the pack a day thing. My husband and I have been vaping for just over two weeks. I have been without a cigarette for six days and my husband for three days. We are committed to spending what it cost us to smoke, to vaping. We have started out with 510's but are already pooling our money for models that will last all day without having to have multiple batteries on-hand and will provide a lot of vapor. Please hit me up via PM if you want info on what we started out with.... Just getting started is the main thing...and having plenty of juice and backup batteries, atomizers or cartomizers will help you be successful. WELCOME!!

A whole lot of people seem to buy smaller "I'd like it to look and feel like a regular cigarette" things when they start.

Very few people who are still vaping a few months later seem to be using those kind of things.

I started recently, and got an eGo-T kit, with the 1000 mah batteries (an upgrade from the basics, which are 650 mah) and I'm pretty happy with it.

I think that the more research you do before you order, the better - but at some point, you sort of have to just jump in.

It helps a lot if you can find a real brick-and-mortar store to buy a kit at. That gives you a place where you can see them, try them out, ask questions in person, all before you buy.

Check this sub-forum and see if there is a group near you. If there is, then they will know if there is a store in your area.

Location Specific

And the forums here are a wonderful resource. People are very helpful, so when you start vaping, you have a sort of built in support group of people who want to help you quit smoking and start vaping.

Good luck!

I've recently started using KR808s, the Volt to be exact. Battery life on cigarette size has come a long way aparantly. I leave home with two 320 mah regulated batts that last somewhere between 4-6 hrs each, one I'm vaping and one in a charged PCC case capable of charging one 1 1/2 plus times and takes less space in my pocket than a pack of smokes. That gives me around 1120mah which is enough to make it through my day and they charge while I sleep. The cartos hold about 1ml of juice and last a little over a batt so I take 3 plus the one on the bat I'm vaping and seem to make it fine. I would recommend the manual battery, at least until you get used to not overfilling the cartos, or you could get juice in an auto and fry it quick. They come both ways. I've got a lot of other PVs like the Egos,T rex and Rivas etc. but since I bought my 808 it seems to be my primary and nobody's asked me if I'm using a drug pipe lately. :p
