Well the company has gone and done it. if we want to pay a lower rate on our insurance we all have to join this fitness thing. Not just the smokers but every one. If you dont join you are sure to pay 80 more a month per adult on the insurance. If you smoke (or have nicotine in your system) and you join the fitness thing you pay 40 more per adult. Ugh! We all have to go down to the local lab and it seems we have to have blood drawn for them to do all the test. You know the h1c and colesterol BP and all that crap. Of course the cotene is in there. I have been vaping between 3 and 6 for months now. Last night i placed an order for all my liquids in 0! ugh! I have been reading and trying to figure out with taking the blood test (which i think is unfair since i can not stand needles and think that is just a total invasion) how long i need to be on 0 to pass this test. I have read that depending on how long you have smoked it can take up to a month to pass the blood test. anyone else have to do the blood test and how long did you do 0 for in order to pass? If i was a drug addict i could get that crap to flush my system and not worry about all this mess. I feel like a common criminal because of this. ugh!

A few links I found

How long does Nicotine stay in your System, Blood, Urine, Hair and Tests | i Health Blogger

From this link:

How Long Does Nicotine Stay in your Urine
When inhaled, nicotine is converted into cotinine, which together with the body’s wastes products is excreted in the urine. In detecting nicotine and its metabolites in the body, levels remain detectable in the urine only for 3 to 4 days.

However, this may be different for some cases. For passive smokers, urine nicotine test can be positive for as long as 15 to 20 days. Cotinine may also take longer to be excreted with wastes if menthol cigarettes are used.

From the links B2L posted, 3-4 days. Drink a lot of water to flush it out.

Please, please, please(!) post after you've gotten the results back and how long you abstained from nic. No one ever reports back!

Good luck!

The Last thing I would do is Take some "Masking" Substance like some people will do to get around a Drug Test. This can Raise a Red Flag when because the Test Results can look "Out of Balance".

If you are going to continue to use >0mg e-Liquids. I believe that a Low Protein Diet will make a Cotinine test Less Sensitive.

Of course, moving to 0mg a week or so before the Test would be the Best Bet. That and Drink a Lot of Water. But Drinking a Lot of Water is Something you should be Doing Anyway.

I have a burning question. Why the zero tolerance for cotinine? Does your employer realize tobacco isn't the only source of nicotine, or that you might be living with a smoker?

I wonder if the boss realizes that people who regularly eat tomatoes, eggplants, etc. might also test positive for cotinine, even if they don't smoke. My best guess is that some bosses get some sort of perverse pleasure dictating to their employees, as if they were slavemasters instead of employers.:2c:

Wow, just wow. I have heard it all now. Seems like a awful invasion but I guess that's just the world we live in today. My advice is drink lots and lots of water and maybe go to a sauna and see if you can sweat the toxins out of your body. This just might help. Please let us know how things go and the outcome of it. The more water you drink, the more you sweat the better. Best of luck to you and I'm so sorry you have to go through this.

If it was me... I would quit due to the violation of privacy. In an ideal world, companies that attempt to enact such atrocious behaviour should find themselves without employees or customers. Unfortunately most workers seem to have allowed themselves to be painted into a corner of debt and bills to the point that quitting there job is not an option, even for a few weeks transition. As such, rights are rapidly degrading to the increased power of the corporate world.

Do not drink a flushing product or a whole bunch of water. It can produce a dilute result and will undoubtedly raise red flags. Three to four days and your done.

This sounds completely unbalanced. If this happens to enough people, I'm sure something will be done.

I have been a Member here a Long Time. And I have to Say, that your Post was about the 1st to Advocate Drinking a Lot of Water is Not a Good Thing.

You do Understand that the Constituents of an e-Liquid will Dehydrate someone who takes in a "Normal" amount of Water per Day?

And that the Average Person does Not Even Take in a "Normal" amount of H2O?

The New England Journal of Medicine has a publication on nicotine levels of common veggies.

Here is a Chart from your Link.

Notice that the Units are in ng/g.

Nanograms of Nicotine.

I imagine once vaping is more and more mainstream. someone will challenge the insurance companies and corporations with a class action suit over this.

til then, heed the advice given, 4 days should do it.

vaping 0 isn't as bad as going cold turkey off cigs  At least you can still hold, puff, blow vapor

Everyone tests positive for cotinine, for the reasons you mention.
That is why the cotinine tests have a threshold value that is used to determine recreational nicotine usage.

My best guess is that some bosses get some sort of perverse pleasure dictating to their employees, as if they were slavemasters instead of employers.:2c:
Actually, it's usually not the employer that is worried about nicotine use, but rather the cost incurred for insuring the employee.
It is really the insurance companies that are to blame for this horribly disturbing trend.

This is what it is and do not think for one minute that any Insurance company is in support of Vaping or against FDA DEEMING.

It is in the interest of the insurance companies to have Nicotine delivery devices classified as Tobacco Products. This will give automatic approval to charge users the higher insurance rate.
It has nothing to do with your health or wellness.
It is strictly a way to legally increase the bottom line and increase investor dividends.

ATM - My insurance company allows smoker counseling to receive the lower rate. 3 Phone calls minimum with a Life Coach.
My Wife has made these 3 Calls once a year for the past 8 years and I have saved thousands.
Meanwhile I still cannot get her switched to vaping. :(

That is my circumstance at the moment as well.

My company instituted a $50/month surcharge for "tobacco users" this year, which includes electronic cigarettes.
But all I have to do is "enroll" in a tobacco cessation program to avoid the surcharge.

I am told that the policy may change next year, and more might be required.
We'll have to wait and see how that plays out.
