Another good simple choice is the GreenWorld G400 auto. It's like a super-mega 808 and takes 808 cartomizers. It's 900 mAh and a little thicker than an 808. Its own cartos are big and hold 2ml. This system will LAST. I get about 7 hours of constant vaping on a battery. The only downside is that the cartos are pricey ($4each ) and they're GreenCig which means it's almost impossible to open up for refills. The good news is that it's pretty easy to refill from the batt end one drop at a time, and it also can use any 808 carto. A carto alternative for it is the mega carto from Ikenvape (only it's a little thinner than the batt).

I'm really liking it though, and it really lasts. Good for someone who wants a simple system that won't wimp out or need attention too often. (Nhaler and LeCig have them.)

Yes, prefilleds can be refilled once they run out, and you can buy refill liquid from anyone. Several juice vendors carry smaller sizes so that you can sample different flavors to find the one, or several, that suits you best. Once you find your particular flavor(s) you can buy blank cartomizers. or carts, depending on which way you decide to go, and fill them yourself. Prefilled carts/cartomizers are not the most reliable of creatures, so extra juice can sometimes be a must. Oh, order more than you think you'll need, many people have underestimated and ended up having to go back to cigarettes while waiting on their new shipment.

Personally, I started with the kr8s and am still using them 6 months later. Autos at first, then decided I liked the easier draw on the manuals. An XL battery lasts me anywhere between 5 and 7 hours and I was a pack a day lights smoker. VaporNine, CigEasy and Vapor4Life are companies I've used for hardware.

I think there is an unjustified prejudice toward the 510 over the 808, and a prejudice toward the manual over the auto. People say the autos "self-fire" but they don't anymore, they're not sound activated anymore but vacuum activated.
Here is list of reasons most people prefer manual batteries...

1) Many automatics go off due to wind or noise
2) Many automatics have a cutoff which decides for you long a drag you are going to take
3) Automatics will get gunked up and ruined if you get juice in them
4) It can be very challenging to learn to get automatics to work consistently

Automatic batteries are easily the biggest reason people fail with electronic cigarettes.
If everyone started with a manual battery, hardly anyone would fail.

Having said that, there are people that prefer automatic batteries, after they learn to use them.
And anyone who wants to try one can always get one later.

I ended up going by price and getting the 510 from strictlyejuice. I'll start with that one and see if I like it. I was gonna get some sampler juices from them, but the sampler packs seemed to all be out of stock. I found a 5pk at vaporsetc (3ml bottles) for $6.95, so I was gonna go with that and a 5pk of empty cartridges. Does that seem good enough to get started with? Also, has anyone bought from vaporsetc? Any thoughts? Also, the samplers are 18mg, which is lower than what comes with the kit. Not sure what strength to go with really.

The general average is about 1-5ml per day, with most people in the 2-3ml per day range.
Those 5 x 3ml bottles would last most people about 4-5 days, so you should be ordering some more juice right now.

I'd suggest some more samplers in different strengths.

You're going to spend a little money at first until you find the right nicotine strength for you.
If it isn't high enough you are going to keep smoking, but if it is a little too high at least you can cut it down some.

How much of what kind of cigarettes did you smoke?

Honestly, I smoke whatever is on sale at this point, but I switch off between full flavor menthols and non-menthol lights. Odd, I know, but I like both. As for amount I try to keep it at a pack a day, but sometimes I go to a pack and a half. I'm sure I'm gonna need more juice, but I've been trying to find sampler packs, so I don't have to buy full size bottles of everything. I think the cartridges that come with the kit are 24mg, btw.

Based on your answer I'm going to guess that 18mg is a good place to start, although you never know.
It is possible you might wind up needing something a bit higher.
:)

As for samplers, post number 3 in the thread below has the most comprehensive list of places to get samplers I've ever seen...
Taking the plunge!
