hello everyone.. thanks in advance and sorry for this stupid question...

im a beginner at building my own coils.. i understand most of terms and im really trying hard to learn by myself but.. i really need help right now.. when ever i try to use a calculator for coils, they are always need the leg length or leg length per coil. does that mean i need to measure it everytime im going to build new coils? when i watch how others build coils(mostly on youtube), i dont see them measure or hear them say anything about leg leg length.

and is there any default for number of wraps? i know lesser wraps = less resistance..

again..thanks

howdy - and welcome!

when i use a calculator (like steam-engine.org) i tend to just leave the default leg lengths as is and work from there

as far as 'default' wraps - not necessarily - is going to depend on what your target ohms are, wire gauge and coil diameter (and that will depend to an extent on what you are building in/ on - and how much room you have to work with)

what kind of ohm range are you shooting for? (single or dual coils? wire gauge?)

wow.. thanks for the great and fast response

i would like to vape at .2 or .3 ohms.. im using a joytech cuboid 200w(upgraded) .. currently, im vaping using a wire called "fertility wire". i have no idea about the diameter of it im sorry. a friend of mine gave it to me. before this i have a fused klapton wire..the problem with that is .. i have to vape it at 60w because it takes too long to heat up when im only at 40-50W which consumes too much batt.

could you please suggest something so that i can get much vapor and flavor in my cuboid? build, number of wraps, diameter..

right now i have the tools for wrapping wires ,1.5 -4.0 mm and 22GA Kanthal A1 Wire ..
by the way.. i prefer dual coils

Are you using a dripping atomizer or a tank? Best advice is to keep it simple when you are just starting. You don't NEED to build that low ohm on a regulated device. 6 wrap of 26 gauge kanthal from TEMCO with a 2.5mm inner diameter should put you around .8 ohm. 30 to 40 watts should be solid.

first thing i would recommend is familiarize yourself with steam-engine.org - that is the online calculator that is my go to for coil wrapping... second, to echo Grimlock, what are you building on? an RDA? if so, what kind - that will give me some insight into suggestions - and initially, when i started building, i generally targeted the .5 range or so until i got comfortable with coil building (i tend to run .1-.2 ohm builds now and use SS316L as my preferred wire)

22ga is probably a lower gauge than you should be using at right now, especially for dual coils

for example - for a .3ohm build with 22ga kanthal, with 3mm diameter dual coils, you would need 9/10 wraps per coil - those are going to be some pretty hefty coils with 22ga...

with 26ga, 3mm diameter dual coils you could do 6/7 wraps and come in around .5ohm

remember, dual coils halve your resistance (in the 22ga build above, each coil would be about .6ohm, but together the build would be .3ohm... for the 26ga build, each coil would be about 1 ohm, together .5ohm)

im using a gemini rta ... so i should buy a new wiere then ?

and what do you think of this set up? (picture source : steam-engine.org)

i dont know . sorry. how can i check?
lol - no worries, brother - only way i would know to check is to try - but i am thinking those are going to be too big... i have a boreas and a steam crave supreme, both touted for having huge build decks for rta's and i tend to run 3.0mm diameter coils - some buddies i believe run 3.5mm in the supreme but i think those are tight in there... i could be wrong, but not sure that 4.0mm will fit in there

honestly, i would hold on to it but get some 26ga to use for now - will let you get more comfortable with coil building in general and likely work better for you in that rta
