I’ve opened the bottom of the e cig and have found this connection has snapped, Hes had the device about 3 months, is there anything I can do? Is this normal for a device to do this? I agree. Turning off and on randomly is bad news and when a device fails to turn on, it's usually the end of the device. 3 months is the length of most warranties, so getting the device replaced probably isn't going to happen. You did not say what the name of the device is, but most of the time, it is cheaper to replace it rather than repair it. Often, they cannot be repaired.

It look like you found the culprit. My guess is that that board containing the buttons is loose. While using the mod the board wobbled around, wobbling that wire that eventually snapped in 2.
I would try to stabilize the board maybe with some hot glue if u cant get to the board screw. Then i would try to bend the wire as close to the other side and solder the connection back together.
