I just bought a 510 kit, and after just my first puff, i notice the flavor leaves something to be desired. ( i have charged the batt's, switched atty's, and refilled the cart's, still no improvement, the taste is consistently poor... Think fast-food vs homemade)

I have heard the Attys burn up to 20% hotter than other models, could this be the cause of the problem? If, so anyway to fix it?

If not, any suggestions?

I am thoroughly impressed with it in every way, except the almost utter lack of flavor. Unless I can resolve this issue, I may be in the market for a 901...

Thank you,
salt

Take the round inserts out of the drag end, there are two of them. Take a sewing needle hold it with pliers and heat it with a lighter. Then very quickly pierce a small single hole on the back side of the cup that holds the filler. This seems to work really good for me gives the filler a vent and absorbs liquid alot better and seems to fill more complete. In doin this it seems to let the flavoring flow through filler to the wick better. Also you can take a clean sewing needle and poke multiple holes through the filler on the atty side seems to allow the juice flow better also. This is just my ritual that works for me, and its a one time cart mod that you don't have to do often. I hope this helps you find the flavor your missing.

I have to agree with ImYourSalt. Although I really like my 510 as far as performance, I'm noticing less flavor than with other units and wondered if had to do with it burning a bit hotter.

I read (somewhere on this forum) that the Janty Dura-C atomizer doesn't burn quite as hot . Of course, this was after I invested in laying in a good supply of (non Janty) attys. Sigh...

Anyone want to give this a try and let me know if it makes any difference? ;)

I get great vapor and loads of flavor with both the 510 and the Dura-C. Much better vapor/flavor than with any other pv I own (and that includes 901, 801, 401, and supermini).

Newbies just off cigs suffer from what every other smoker suffers from - lack of taste. This will return, usually within the first month.

The only mod I use consistantly is the cart straw.

Lots of good advice here. I have noticed like Kreel stated, while I was still smoking the analogs I wasn't getting much taste from the vapor. I bought the Johnson Creek welcome to e-smoking kit. Problem was I was still smoking and didn't see much difference in the various juices. I have been off of the analogs for almost 3 weeks now and my taste buds are starting to work again and I get more vapor flavor.

Another thing I was doing wrong was trying to draw on the e-cig too hard. The best draw is achieved through a slower draw unlike the analogs. If you try to draw too hard it works against the process. This is why the auto-batts do not work as well as the manuals. A longer slower draw produces the best results. The auto-batts don't allow enough time for the proper draw.

I hope some of these posts have helped you.

Wow! this thread has received a lot more attention than i thought it would. Thanks for all the advice.

mjones, could you elaborate on "round inserts"? Maybe with pictures or video?

-Bryn... I am using manual batt's, and am consistently topping of my cart's. I have used it all day, and for at least one battery life last night, so i doubt it's primer fluid leftover.

-Kreel... it's not that i smoke (though i do), because the very same juice tastes great in my other model (084). I have heard of the Straw mod, Is that were I just stick a coffee straw in between the cart wall and the filler?? Do i need to pierce a whole in the bottom of the cart? if so, wont that make it easier for juice to leak into my mouth?

OK, Phew...

Thanks to:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/joye-510/15093-incredible-510-cart-upgrade.html

My problem has been solved. I am not a coffee drinker, (not by choice) and found that my little plastic q-tips from the dollar store work perfectly for this cart mod.

Now even the subtlest flavors peak.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!

Salt!!!

PS.
I Was planning to buy a 901, because of the poor flavor from my 510. After the cart mods wonderful performance, should i just keep doing what works (Buy more 510's, as 2 is never enough), or are there any DIE-HARD 901-ers out there, that can convince me that a 901 is really necessary???

THANKS AGAIN!

Since you've already got it, you will realize that a hole in the cart is about as effective as a hole in the head. LOL

The cart mod is a very cool idea from opus. Probably the single best mod since 9-grain bread, hehehe.

please explain exactly how to pierce the cart'... A tutorial of sorts... and pictures would be like icing on a cake (if icing is your bag).

OH,

and can anyone think of a reason I should get a 901, or should I simply purchase backup 510's? since that (after modding) definitely floats my boat?

Think of a reason? Ummm....uhhhh....hmmmm....nope.

Unless you want to chunk rocks at it like I do. Mine's sitting on the shelf behind me gathering dust. It's my 'just in case' I ever don't have a 510 backing up my other 510s. Honestly, the 510 IS the best, and I don't use that term lightly. :)

edited to add that firsttime 510er, Terraphon, just completed a new review of the 510. It's posted in the general forum. Check it out!

Let's see - what is a 901 good for? Well... I'm thinking of putting my 901 in a frame... memorializing my first e-cig hahaha!

510 is a great model and I've never had trouble getting good flavor from my liquids or great vapor and awesome throat hit.

I definitely think that there is also a difference with who makes the 510. My first 510 was a Dura-C. Then I bought a 510 from eastmall.net. There is a difference between the two so much so that I find I've stopped using the Dura-C in favor of the eastmall 510. But that's probably just me.

I also feel my SD is in a league to itself and it tops the 510 (but just an unch or maybe more than an unch or maybe a triple unch...or)

:D

Great! Thank you all sooo much for your dedicated support, and helpful advice.

Another couple 510's will be on my to-do list. But I am curious, does anyone here use the automatic batteries (which are still available, if you look in the right place)? How do they perform?

I am a fan of hands-free vaping, as i drive a manual transmission, and it is much easier to only worry about holding onto 1 'stick', while still maintaining control of the vehicle. Are these auto batteries worth looking into, or should i not bother???

Thanks!

Automatic batteries?? I threw them out with the wash (just kidding).

For me, I will never go back to auto batts. Some people are aok with them, but only of course if you don't care about consistent throat hits.

Whatever e-cig you use while you drive - auto or manual - you still have to hold it, unless you have muscles in your lips the size of Dover.
