You've got it wrong.

This isn't about buying a mechanical mod.
This is about buying a REO.

Some people - the OP in particular - are interested in getting a REO.
Many of these people are not particularly interested in a mechanical mod.
Hence, the option to just add a regular kick module initially makes it a more viable option.

That's why there is a REO Grand VV. They've stopped making them, but they occasionally come up in the classifieds.

Let me approach this from a different angle:

If my Reo fails - i can get the guy that made it on the phone and he will fix it in the unlikely event i cannot. I'm famous for wrecking them and door to door repaired takes about 5 days.

Prior to that i can post a question of my issue in the Reo forum and someone can help me within minutes.

So when you buy a Reo, you get all that as well as one of the best bottom-fed mods made. That a kick doesn't natively fit.

There was once a Reo named VV Grand..that the sheeples didn't understand..So Rob tossed it, and then he bosses it..and made the low ohm LP Grand.

vv grand;
lp grand;

names names and more names;

ok, so the vv grand I guess had vv; unfortunately it probably had a particular pcb board and not just a standard sized kick.

and lp grand I guess means it's low profile; and what... does it have vv like the vv grand? is that what you're saying?

TRUTH!

If rob wants to make a square housing that will take a STANDARD kick and you stick that inside a reo as the optional kick module, that would work too; doesn't matter to anybody; but if you had to have a special kick, that would defeat the purpose.

In answer to the OP :
As a Career Trucker, dripping is out of the question. Trying to drip into an atty of any kind while steering 78,000 lbs. at 75 MPH on the Interstate is totally unsafe. Also, as a Flat Bed Driver, there a re chains, tarps, straps, tie-downs, .... a lot more work than just closing the back doors and driving. I broke six eGo Twists and ten Kanger T3's in less than six months. Along the way I had purchased my first REO Mini, and it just kept going no matter how much punishment it took. Then one day, my REO Mini fell out of shirt pocket. While I was tarping a full load of lumber. That was loaded onto a spread axle flat bed trailer. 11 Feet down and onto a hardened chip-and-run surface that had been compressed by years of tractor trailer traffic. I climbed down, picked up my REO, wiped it off and kept vaping. That was nearly two years ago, and I still use REOS Mods.
The REOS is indestructible, period. I have two REO Grands for at work, two REO VV Grands for at home and a REO Woodvil for out and about. I've recently acquired two ProVari, a P2 through Trade and purchased the new P3. Both have Kayfun RDA tank style attachments. They are nice - for lying on the couch and watching television.
If you are interested in sub-ohming and vapor production, look at a Low Profile (LP) REOS Grand. Reos Mods offers several dual coil and single coil attachments for the LP Grand. Also, there is a REONaut who is remodeling popular RDA's into Bottom Feed RBA's. His work can be found at Catfish Atty Mods. I recently had one of my VV Grand planed down, and purchased a remodeled Veritas from Catfish Atty Mods. Works great in single coil.
There is more to the REOS than an on-board bottle. Try conversing with the people of 'REOVille' for more info.

There is a stock-kickable Grand coming. We just don't know when. What he said about it was that it will not be limited to an 18500 batt. It will take an 18650. There will be a removable conductive spacer the size of a kick... So, if your kick dies, you can pop the spacer back in and vape mechanical until you get a new kick.

This design was announced at least 5 or 6 months ago, but no ETA on production. Since there is a woodville run coming soon, and because the new gasketless SS 510 parts will arrive soon, I'm going to bet his focus in completely on woodvilles right now and we will be well in to next year before production of the kickable grand.

I predict the kick will die a slow but evident death. Most mech mod users do not even bother to use them. Many are going with the unregulated box mods that are coming out 10 a day sometimes. Visit some of the vapers fb groups and you can see this. Most mech tube buyers now a days by authentic I think for the collect-ability of the things. Over priced battery tubes with sick logos..I'm just not into it. ;)

Isn't the kick pretty much dead now?

I'd say the kicks are almost dead; but as more people get mech mods, I'm hoping somebody gets the bright idea to make a high powered kick;

or maybe a hybrid control head will develop where you add on a control head that adds less than an inch to a tube mod so that you can get the screen instead of only regulation.
