I received my order for 50' of 28 gauge kanthal in the mail today. I celebrated by recoiling quite a few different atomizers. Even after using quite a considerable amount of wraps, the resistance is dreadfully low. After recoiling my protank 2, i could barely fit the coil in the head and was only get it up to 1.1 ohms. It took a while for my provari to allow me to fire it.

I recoiled my Mini DID and after 6 wraps, it was .9. I had to take it to the torch for quite a long time to get up to 1.0. Naturally my Provari threw a fit over this as well.

I take it I should have gotten wire with a higher resistance rating, but given that it was ordered from lightning vapes, i didn't think I'd have this issue. I never had issues like this with my 32 gauge from Temco.

Should I just sell this wire and get something else?

I'm used to using 28 gauge kanthal with less wraps and getting a much higher ohm rating. I assumed the thicker wire meant I'd have to compensate for it, but it seems borderline unusable for my setups.

It seems great if I didn't have regulated mods, but I only own a provari and an SVD my wife pretty much stole from me

In the future, you should check out the ohms/foot of wire before ordering a large quantity again. There is a big difference between 32 gauge and 28 gauge Kanthal in terms of resistance.

For building coils that will fire on regulated mods, 28 will require a lot of wraps. You probably would have better luck trying microcoils with that gauge.
