Based on the video I watched, you wouldn't polish before forcing a patina as the metal needs to be clean and clear of all oils, residues etc. If there is any clear coat on the copper, you have to remove that also with a acetone bath... here is the instructional I watched, and his result is a sick blue something or the other :p

nice! thanksss

$17.83 4Nine Style Mechanical Mod -

I was wondering what brand makes the product shown there and if this is a good value?
and, do they all have the same serial numbers on the firing switch?

This will be my first mech mod!

thanks in advance

For a beginner I'd recommend a K100 or Stingray mod. But if you absolutely really want the 4nine you should look into the Stillare rda; it's known for it's long 510 pin connection.

The 4nine is recommended to be used with a button top battery, but if the atty pin is long enough it would be fine *enough* to use with a flat top batt. Otherwise the battery could short out which could be danguhruhs. I ordered a 4nine clone and i can't waiiiiiiiiiiiit it is duh sooooo seksay!

ok so what advice would a beginner need when using the 4nine? How will I be able to triple check that the direct connection is indeed direct?

Much of the same advice, go with the VapeTech, not the Infinite. The positive center pin of the atty must extend lower than the negative threading on the atty, but that really should be enough. Button top batteries are recommended, but it's more about shortening the switch throw, since button tops are slightly longer batteries. The button top itself is actually large enough to contact both the positive center pin and negative threading, if the center pin is not longer, so there's no protection against shorts verses flat tops, even though you'll see it repeatedly mentioned in the forum.

I'll second the strong suggestion that you not buy a 4nine as a first mechanical mod.

That said, I got the stainless steel version of the 4nine from focalecig along with a copper Nemesis. The 4nine is nice, seams visible but you can't feel any gap, switch works well, overall very nice. The copper Nemesis is nice but its lacquered. So no patina. Considering how shiny the pics show for the copper 4nine, I'd guess its lacquered also.

With those caveats, I'd say that the focalecig 4nine would be a good buy.

you need a multimeter.. or at least an actual ohmeter..with leads. Put one lead on its side on top of the pin, and put the other lead on the body of the atomizer. That will let you know if the pin is too short for a hybrid cap.

I love my authentic 4nine, but it is not a beginner mod.. I agree with the multitude of people advising against it for a first mod.

Edit-stillare has to be modded for 4nine.. at least the hcigar version. You don't want a super long pin.. unless you don't want a throw.. which could also auto fire in your pocket.

they got a couple of good 4nine clones of fasttech

SS >> $21.51 4Nine Style Mechanical Mod - 1:1 clone / 18350/18500/18650 at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Brass >> $15.73 4Nine Style Mechanical Mod - 18350/18500/18650 at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Copper (the one on it's way to me :D) >> $16.91 4Nine Style Mechanical Mod - 18350/18500/18650 at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

I spent ages reading up on these mods, as well as reading all of the discussions, asking questions, etc. before i bought mine, and I think the above are the best of each type on fasttech.

Fasttech has 3 of the 4 clone versions, you've linked the good Vapetech Brass and Copper ones, but that's the Infinite SS version, not recommended.

Is the vapetech ss on there? The only other i could find was the one with a copper button. Whats wrong with the infinite version?

The Infinite is oddly called 1:1 on Fasttech, but it's the furthest from 1:1. It's incorrectly sized, and includes an extra magnet to make up for the sizing issue, which isn't ideal, since you want the copper or brass button to contact the copper or brass ring in the floating spacer for the conductive path. A nickel plated magnet isn't what you want carrying the current.

Fasttech has the Vapetech SS version, it's the first one they listed with the copper button, and the dirty pics everyone gave it flak for. That was a sample, doesn't actually come nearly that grimy. With a little 1000 and 2000 grit sandpaper, plus a decent polish, it cleans up really nice anyway.

Unless you have some FastTech credit you need to use up, you can do just as well by ordering from focalecig instead. They may be a few cents cheaper or more expensive, prices are very similar. I've gotten my focalecig orders faster, it seems to me, than from FastTech. Of course I do like my mods shiny instead of corroded but some folks love patina. Your choice.

Yh i've been lurking on focalecig for a while, they have some good stuff on their with similar pricing to FT, still got $56 of FT gift certificates to get through. I don't know if anyone else has had this, but i've been getting my last few orders from FT a lot quicker, 10 days or less

I get my Fasttech orders quicker than my Focalecig ones. Also, I'm not sure what bsoplinger means by shiny vs corroded, the Vapetech 4nine I have that needed cleaning came from Focalecig. They're all made in the same factory, it's like some people forget FT and Focal are just resellers.

The one offered by focalecig is extremely shiny in the pictures. That's always meant to me that its got a lacquer finish. The one offered by FastTech is rather dull, so I'm assuming not lacquered. Hence my comment about patina. The copper Nemesis from focalecig has a lacquered coating, the one from FastTech doesn't, which makes me guess that the 4nine offerings are the same way.

All of the Focalecig listings are the Vapetech version. None are lacquered that I've seen, but the manufacturer will supply polished or brushed finishes (what you're mentioning as dull). Focalecig even has one with a painted black finish now.

As far as the SS version is concerned Focalecig currently wants $8.36 more than Fasttech for the same item.

They've got to make up from the group buy they did on that model when they sold them for $13.

:) It was $13.99 without $2 tracking and the cheaper laser etched button, and just a few hours before Fasttech listed the same for $15.58 with tracking, and the better engraved button, but I get your point :)
