So, I've tried multiple time to build alien claptons (triple 28g core, 32g outer), but i can never get the arches to line up with each other. they end up crossing each other and ruining the whole strand. ive only ever gotten a 3-4 inch piece that was usable and the arches were really far apart. what am i doing wrong? is it the tension? how far i stretch my outer wire? Please help!

The very few times I've tried it I stretched the outer wire out to a little over twice the length it was until it looked like some of the YouTube videos I've seen on building them. Getting them spun on is still difficult (for me) to get a nice even spacing, and I guess it's just a matter of practice before consistently turning out an even alien.

There are some people who seem to get it done quite easily. I'm extremely jealous of those who can.;)

Aliens are hard. I have been lucky on a few, but most of the time the core wires triangle on me, or the clapton wire fails to catch right or backs up on itself.

I have to get the core wires flat flat flat.

I stretch the clapton wire pretty good -- I keep looking at it closely to make sure it has that helix shape though.

I am very careful to keep the direction of the claptoning wire oriented correctly and to change the direction of the drill.

I lead the wire a bit, hard to say how much, but something in the neighborhood of 15 degrees. I hold the wire fairly loose and let the rotating cores do the work. I go slowwwwwwly.

I find m.terk's video pretty useful.
