Hi all,

So I've been totally unsuccessful at using my Helios clone without absolutely choking myself practically to death. I use 6mg nic and 70/30 vg/pg. I've been careful to line up the airholes with the coils on both sides and am running dual coils that come out to anywhere between .5 and 1.5 ohms. I have tried to run it on my Provari and my Littup Nintendo controller DNA30...still same result. Does it sound like an airflow issue? It's just so incredibly harsh that I can hardly take a draw without coughing like crazy. Ahh..also using organic, boiled cotton for the wicking. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've made sure (at least the last few times) to leave a gap in between the bottom of the coil and any cotton that is soaked and laying on the deck, so I'm pretty they're not touching. Sucks because all I hear about is how amazing dripping is and this thing is unusable. I've even had my friends try it and they get the same result.

all I can suggest since I had the same issues is make sure youre using the correct gauge/type of wire, not to mention that if its dual coil, make sure both are exactly the same. Dry fire the coils before wicking to make sure both are heating up at the same time, and evenly form the inside out. If youre getting a hot leg, it will taste like sulfur vapor and suck bad.

I kidna had to learn all this on the fly with my genesis, but it helped ALOT in rebuilding my tobh atty too! ^^

EDIT: Also, after wicking, and saturating, fire it a couple times with the cap off. Make sure theres no hot spots.

I did have one case with one of my 1st builds, and I accidentally did one extra wrap on one coil, and it made that coil vape stupidly harsh and the other one practically not even fire after wicking. I learned soon after to have my lady check how many wraps I did, because apparently I cant count to 8. Also, if trying to micro coil, one thing I learned (and I'm new to RBA's so correct me if I'm wrong) but you either want all the wraps touching or none or you get weird firing. Symmetry is your best friend.

I'll try and rebuild it later today and post some pics up of the deck once I'm finished. Who knows...could quite possibly be that one is heating up slightly faster than the other. I know I've used the same amount of wraps but I do feel like that they don't fire EXACTLY the same as one another. We're probably talking milliseconds of difference, but nonetheless. Guess I could also capture a quick video of firing it once I'm finished and post a link up. Thanks for all the suggestions...stay tuned!

some times you have to play with the coils a bit to get them to fire evenly. You're from cincinnati, if you want, shoot me off a PM, maybe we're close by and I can show you a few tricks and tips ^^

Is there a better gauge/type for this kind of application? Just using regular 28 gauge kanthal.
