Full disclosure, Ive been in this game a while now almost 7 years i know ohms law and what a quality battery is, just want to get that out of the way before the mandatory "if you have to ask about the build you shouldnt be on a mech" comment.

I had a few mechs wayyy back around 2010 before the sub ohm and cloud chasing fads rolled in. I admit I fell somewhat into it as well. With the impending FDA doom looming ever closer I've been stocking up on mech mods. Now Im used to that super hard MTL draw at 90 watts on a velocity, ya know clouds, instant ramp up etc..

So the noisy cricket rocks, i can throw anything in there no sweat. My single battery tubes is where im having issues. Im looking for a good combo of vapor and flavor, threw some claptons 24 kanthal wrapped in 34 or 32 and it was a no go. Too much ramp up and vapor not warm enough. Closest i got was dual parallel 22g 7wraps 3mm. It's close but not quite there. I have many attys, trying to work on a goon and sapor v2 at the moment. I have different types of wire but could never get TC to work consistantly so I just went back to kanthal.

Can you mech vets suggest me some of your favorites? Using vtc4 in all my mechs rated for 23A according to Mooch. I would really appriciate some suggestions!

Thanks!

Virtually all of my attys have a set of 6 or 7 wrap 22 gauge 3mm coils. Ohms out between .21 and maybe .26 depending on if 6 or 7 wrap. I have found these to be perfect for ramp up speed (Almost instant) and vapor (chucks!) and not too hot once wicking is done correctly. Iv pretty much given up on claptons, sometimes they are OK, but most of the time just meh. This is for my single cell mechs, which is about all I like to use anymore.

Plain micro coils is the way to go in a tube mech imo.

My goto build is dual coil 6 wraps of 24AWG 2.5mm ID comes out to 0.25 ohms, produces about 60 watts after VD. A mech with a nice low voltage drop and the airflow backed off a bit in a reduced chamber RDA, oh happy vapes. I find this gives a great balance of ramp up/down, wattage and battery usage. Below this resistance you need to switch to 22G and you lose some of the previously mentioned benefits, but that's just my opinion.

My goto series build which I use in my Noisy Cricket is 11 wraps dual coil 26G 3mm ID comes out to 0.77 oms, produces about 80 watts as well after VD.

Given the same coil specs, nichrome will ramp up much faster than kanthal. You may try the same build that is close but not quite there using nichrome instead.

I dunno what it is but i have nothing but trouble with nichrome.Tried for TC for a few months, would go through periods where it would fine for a few hours then boom huge draw full of cotton. It is probably the spacing and how thin the wire is. Reminds me of building 32g spaced verticals on gennys with a provari, it can be infuriating.

I have a phantom wotofo phantom I havent built on yet, willl run that in hybrid mode so it should hit a little harder. Right now im trying to dial in this ragnarok, supposedly 99.9% copper but it has 2 threaded sections when ran in 18650 mode.

I've only used it on mechs, 3-3.5mm 24 gauge contact coils and never had any issues. SS is great on mechs too but has a much lower resistance so you have to adjust your gauge and diameter for that. I just got some SS Clapton wire and am going to play with it today and see how that turns out.

N200 and N80 are very different wire. N200 pure nickle was used for TC. N80 is used in place of Kanthal, but has a slightly lower resistance.

Try some N80 in a mech. It's my favorite. As far as build, I like dual coils; 3.2mm, 3.6mm, or 4mm ID; naked N80 22, 23, or 24 gauge round, .9mmx.3mm rectangular (similar resistance to 23g), and .5mmx.5mm square (similar to 24g); wraps: 3 or 4 wide spaced wraps. I like to keep the mass low, no ramp up.

Yea I've got some ni200. I haven't tried N80. I also have some nifethal 52 from zivpif and some titanium.

I was thinking of just trying some twisted kanthal to increase surface area but without the extreme ramp of claptons. Thoughts? Or has anyone used the nifethal on a mech? I couldn't get it dialed in for TC on a dna200.

Paralell > twisted.
Paralell coils are about as efficient ad it gets.

Again, try a paralell build.
;)
No comparison. Twisted isnt even close.
Claptons are pretty but they are extremely inefficient.

I always build in parallel. I picked up some N90 from a B&M at lunch. Cost a fortune but will be worth it to see how it how it performs before ordering online. Dude had it in his mech build and the ramp up was instant with plumes of vapor, although he did have it at .1 on a single battery mech. I will most likely wrap it to about .2

Stay tuned

Paralell as in two wires per coil.

Don't use ni200 on anything but tc mods, in tc mode!

Twisted kanthal a no go with most mechs these days? I figured it would be a compromise between regular coil and clapton.

I pulled my last set of twisted 26`s out of my Stillare a couple weeks ago. They served me well (they ran for like two years, LOL). But they simply don`t offer the ease of build and overall vape quality of the simple 22 contact coils Iv found I prefer. It should be noted that I`m not a "take a vape or two and set it down" kind of guy. When I vape I chain vape for a good 10-15 minutes and so it has to stay cool enough to go the whole binge cycle without getting scorching hot. A lot about finding the perfect coils for your kind of vaping depends a lot on your kind of vaping. :?) Are you good after a couple of great hits? Or do you like to sit and relax for minutes on end hitting and hitting,,,,,,,,,and hitting. (I`m the later)
