Help with rebuilding protank?

Hey guys,
I am pretty new to rebuilding my heads for my vivi nova/protank 2, and just received my first spool of kanthal. Like an idiot, I ordered 50ft of 28 gauge and obviously had a hard time making a good coil to work with my vision spinner. I do not have any ohm reader either yet :\ Is there any way to get make a decent head for my protank with this 28 gauge while I wait for the 32gauge to arrive? Im sorry if this was posted in the wrong place, I just wasn't able to create a new post anywhere else. Thanks in advance!

His video is why I went with 28 gauge. I did 12 wraps and torched it as he did but got a very minimal amount of vapor which I presumed was because I am using a lower power vision spinner. Even at max 4.8V I was only getting small harsh hits. Any idea what i could have done wrong?

Get a real rba, would be my advice. Sure you can rebuild a pt, but you are wasting your building skills on a changeable. I shudder every time I think of rebuilding a pt base. Smallest build platform in the world. Get a decent kayfun clone for about the same price, and you'll never go back to a pt. Lots of great rba's to choose from.

This is just my opinion, and my first changeable was a pt. The best vape possible, and ease of maintenance is found on the rba path. Sure it takes some time, patience and experimenting to get there, but once found, yeah, it's worth it.

If bound and determined to build the pt, or any atomizer, check out the http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/coil-builds/416271-micro-coils-increase-vapor-flavor-th.html thread, to learn an excellent way to become a competent builder.

Vape long and Prosper.!!!

I haven't ventured into rebuilding yet but I really want to. I just wanted to say that from what I've read it seems really important to not rebuild if you can't test the OHMs. Please get your 5 posts in as soon as possible so you can ask the experts (not that you haven't gotten some really good answers here already). Just want you to be safe :)

You might as well wait on that 32. To get a 1.5/1.6 Ω coil, you need about 10 wraps with that 28. Fitting it into a PT II head would be tough unless you had an extremely tight coil. You would need a jig or an Artistic Wire Coil Gizmo (highly recommended) to get one that tight. Here's one I built in a PT II head. (Click on pic to enlarge) Vaped sweet!!

I will also give a nod to that Artistic Wire Coil Gizmo..... you can really turn out some sweet coils with that, super fast and super easy. :vapor:

Aw geez man! I have a couple of KFL+ and I still use and build my PT2's! I mean, the KFL's are better but the PT's are much easier to re-wick and change flavors in. They perform acceptably well too.

I do 30ga micro coils on a 16ga needle for the PT's (the KFL's too) 9 wraps comes out to 1.9-2.0 ohm. Wicked with organic cotton.

After I got my Kayfuns, I gave my brother all of my Iclear stuff. He ain't getting the ProTanks though! :D

Well all I can say to that is, bummer. Feel my Russian much easier to re-wick. Course I am running a dual series vertical build with external hemp fiber wick wrap, pushing it at 30 watts. Been running the same wick for a month without needing to dry burn yet. Would be scared to run a pt that hard. PIF'd away my last pt at Christmas. It was either that or paint it and use as an ornament.

All good tips. Also, I just realized: can I test the ohms with a regular multimeter? And is there a specific artistic wire gizmo anyone has a recommendation for?

Yes, you can test it with a multimeter. You should easily be able to get 10-11 wraps of 28 in a PT head. I put 10 wraps of 30 ga in them all the time. 10 wraps of 30 ga comes out around 2.2 ohms.

Awesome! You wouldn't happen to have a video for beginners explaining in depth voltage, ohms, and watts would you? I'm still a bit lost in how it all works.

Oh also forgot to add, I use a blunt nose needle from ecblends to wrap my coils and have no clue what gauge it is. Anything I can pick up tonight at home depot or something that can give me a specific 20 gauge or so?

Plenty of videos on YouTube. I wrap my coils by hand on a 1/16" drill bit. I don't need a gizmo. :) I use Peaches and Cream cotton yarn for my wicks. Much easier to thread through the coil than rolled cotton is, for me anyway.

Ya, I actually just picked up a 20gauge needle and a thing of peaches and creme yarn from Walmart (although I'm not sure if its then official "white" :'() I'm just having a bit of trouble understanding the ohms and how it relates to my specific batteries. Its somewhat difficult trying to find beginner information for my 3 off brand types of batteries. Thanks for the info!
