My wife is glad that I am not smoking anymore, but, she is super undereducated and has been misinformed by mass media when it comes to vaping. She understands nothing about it. She is under the impression that it is dangerous and harmful just like analog cigarettes. I have tried to explain it to her and she won't listen. Any suggestions on what I can do to help her understand and not be so against it? I'm still vaping regardless, but I'd like it to be a little more peaceful!

^^^CASAA!! Couldn't have typed it better myself. :) Congrats on making the switch to vaping and I hope you can make some headway with your spouse about the advantages to vaping. I can't understand how she doesn't at least hear that vaping has only 3-4 ingredients as opposed to the 4,000 toxins found in cigarettes. That alone would perk my ears up. Good luck fellow vaperer and keep us posted!

1. propylene glycol: used in intravenous injections, added in hospital air condition units for bactericidal tendencies to promote sterility and prevent nosocomial infections in immunocompromised patients. NOT the same as ethylene glycol used in antifreeze as many uneducated ANTZ would insist. SAFE FOR INGESTING
2. vegetable glycerine: used in many skin treatment regimens, food products, and medical burn treatments. SAFE FOR INGESTING
3. nicotine: without related chemicals like monoamine oxidase inhibitors, pure nicotine is far less addictive than tobacco products. nicotine is not carcinogenic, but may exacerbate existing malignant mutations. pure nicotine is not responsible for vascular disease.
4. flavorings: this is where vaping gets iffy; we don't know enough about the composition of ejuice flavoring additives to qualify them as safe. though most flavorings used in ejuices have been used as food grade flavors for many years before their adoption by vapers, we can't know their effect on pulmonary tissue without extensive medical studies.
5. dye: same deal as flavoring, which is why many (including myself) choose to vape only clear, undyed juices.

vaping isn't really about being 100% safe, and anyone who makes that claim needs to study up on their habit. vaping is about being drastically safer than the alternative, which appears to be the case.

Man, if you do, I hope she's not like my wife! Me and the dog would be getting to know each other a whole lot better!

Me and my hand too. sSig_eeeek.gif

I think I'd stick with CASAA.

CASSA is a great resource. Also, as much as it may pain you, it helps to at least partially agree with a spouse you're arguing with. Sometimes, when you come at them with a bunch of facts showing them that they are completely wrong, people have a tendency to double down on their beliefs. You can say something like this:

"I really appreciate the concern for my health. I agree that this may not be as safe as breathing air, and that not all the long term facts are in. That said, I really do think that this couldn't be as bad as cigarettes, and since I've had so much trouble quitting in the past, I think that harm reduction is in order for my health. Here are some of the reasons why I think this is a healthier alternative then cigarettes..."

You give her something this way. You acknowledge her feelings on it and validate them in some way. You even show appreciation for her concern. Should go much better then "Read all the facts first!!!" I had to do this with my husband, who was skeptical of e-cigarettes and still is to a point. We both smoked, and he was reluctant to give it up for vaping when I did. May also help to try and gain her sympathy. Vaping may make quitting cigarettes easier, but there are still challenges. Tell her you need her help and support through this.

In other words (I mean this sincerely), think more like a woman, and less like a guy.

Most guys think A+B=C
Most ladies think (when they hear) A+B=C - wait, about D E and F? I wanted to talk about F! F is important to me, and you didn't even bring it up, so I don't care about C, I care about F...

Eh... Not quite. More about the fact that most human beings don't react very well when they are straight up being told that they are wrong. Trust me. I've already divorced and am on husband number 2. Learning from my mistakes, I've taken an different approach to arguing with husband #2. Rather then sitting there, throwing out every reason he's wrong, I found it much easier to first butter him up by mentioning where he's right. Makes listening to where he's wrong much more palatable.

I was a bit tongue-in-cheek... And I do agree with you completely (sadly wife #4 - I wear on people.). What you have written is almost exactly how I discussed switching to vaping with my non-smoking wife. I even vape in the house now :) her complaint is my vaping makes her hungry - it smells like cake mix to her :)

Tell her it's the product of 2 food grade additives and nicotine. That's it. No tar, no noxious chemicals, no proven cancer causing agents. Tell her it's the best thing you ever did for you life.

few ejuice brands do stringent lab testing on their mixes to check levels diacetyl, acetoin etc.
we don't know enough about ANY of the flavorings used in ejuice to justify asserting their safety. if you're particularly concerned on this matter, stick with what's well know and vape unflavored nic base. we're the guinea pigs for a relatively new technology and can't claim we know how things will turn out 20 years down the road. however, it's well within reason to choose vaping over smoking as a harm reduction strategy.
