I have a medical condition for which I usually end up the emergency room every so often. If I am, it's because I'm in immense pain and in that state can't always communicate clearly or efficiently. What do you think the answer should be to "do you smoke?" I think you all know what I mean. We know e-cigs don't have all the tar, ammonia, rat poison xyz in them that cigarettes do but do contain nicotine and other things. In a normal doctor's situation, I could explain how an e-cig works and let my doctor decide but in the case of the emergency room visits I can't do much more than answer yes or no. I will say that the knowledge of whether or not I smoke is probably not extremely relevant to the doctor in context (especially in a short term care scenario), nor is my condition life threatening to begin with- just painful and so I'm curious as to I should be addressing this question from now on.

I think it would probably depend on what you are in for too. I know that smoking does stuff to the way your body function, but nicotine does stuff too.

It would probably be fine to say "non-smoker" in most situations though since it's mostly like a stimulant like caffeine, just a bit more so -- and they never ask you if you drank coffee today, right?
