Oh yes! Saw him with Yes, then solo, then saw Steve Howe solo in the early 80's. I noticed that Peter Banks just died a couple days ago at the age of 65. I didn't get to see him perform with Vangelis though.

Wow, did not hear about Peter Banks. What a bummer. I'll have to search that. I saw Yes several times. In the round a couple times years ago. Saw them in Raleigh about 10 years ago...their Masterpiece tour. Six songs. All real old, long epic tunes (Close to the Edge, Gates of Delirium, Starship Trooper, etc..). Everyone wanted to hear all their hits so they were disappointed. I freaking loved it because I grew up on all that old stuff. Still trying to figure out what the lyrics mean on most of their tunes. :) Jon Anderson has the most unique voice and Yes has some of the best vocals I have heard. Some of it is just crazy good harmonizing and a style you just do not hear that defies definition. Steve Howe is phenomenal too.

Like a lot of the Vangelis/Jon Anderson collaborations.

Hmmmm...I'd say, as a single band, After the Fire, because they performed regularly at my Hall of Residence when I was at university in Southampton England. Lotta fun so maybe 3 times.

But - not sure if this counts but the most numerous band member gigs I've been to are the various permutations of Genesis. I saw Genesis in Guildford, then I saw Peter Gabriel solo, Tony Banks solo, Phil Collins solo twice, Mike Rutherford solo, Anthony Philips solo and Steve Hackett twice solo at Southampton.

Does Rocky Horror Picture Show count? There is live acting, singing, throwing, dancing... yea it counts. RHPS infinity times:D but I only remember a few. Used to go every weekend.

Put your hands on your hips!

Let's do the time warp again:D! Local indie theater still does the whole bit every Friday at midnight, so I've had a few tortllas to the face in my time...

Seeing some of the guitar posts on the Big Thread inspired me to mention Monte Montgomery. Have any of you heard of him? He is an amazing guitar player.

He comes out on stage with an old Alvarez acoustic guitar that has been beat completely to hell and back, and then just wails on it. An acoustic guitar cannot be played like that, but he does it.

Here's a clip with terrible video and sound, but it will give you an idea. He really gets going at about the 1:45 mark of this:

Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! He does wail. Worthy of watching.

Mine's a tie between Mellencamp and Billy Joel. I've seen both of them twice.

The first live show that I really remember was Billy Joel; I'd just turned seven, and my folks took me and my best friend. To this day, when someone says "Chevy", most of the time I hear "...and he's trading in his Chevy for a Cadillac-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack..."!

OK, here goes.

My taste in music is all over the place, but for my entire life it's been consistently at least 10 years behind. I'm just starting to catch up on this decade, but so far I haven't really found a lot to make me think I've missed much.

I like guitars much more than synthesizers and drum machines, and love listening to someone who's really mastered them: people like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and Eddie van Halen, to list a few.

I go on classical streaks, with a serious love of Beethoven that probably sprung from sneaking into a showing of A Clockwork Orange at a young age. The 9th Symphony is still my favorite.

I also have a weakness for cheese. 50'd doowop, 60's surf music, 70's disco and corporate rock, and 90's punk-pop (with a particular fondness for Bowling for Soup) all tend to place prominently on my typical to-go playlist.

Folk and folk-influenced stuff also gets played a lot. Sandy Denny, Pete Seeger, Janis Ian... up to more modern stuff like Natalie Merchant and 10,000 Maniacs and other neo-folk stuff.

Singer-Songwriters are also big with me. Simon and Garfunkel, Don McLean, stuff like that. Joan Armatrading is a goddess.

I won't start posting videos because I'd be at it all day. I try to save that for the Music Game thread.

Oh, and I literally know every Billy Joel song by heart. I've seen him live more than anyone. The man puts on a hell of a show.
