As for me, what day is it?

My true love is anything with blues in it. Blues, blues rock, jazzy blues, bluesy jazz, and
so on: Stevie Ray, Johnny Winter, Joe Bonamassa, Alvin Lee, Gary More, Robin Ford, Rush,
Larry Carlton, Carl Larryton, Carry Larlton, etc.

Then, when I want to rock out, it's the classic rock heroes: Rush, Slash, Alvin Lee, Page,
Hendrix, Rush, Richie Blackmore, Deep Purple, Zep, AC/DC, Rush, Budgie, Black Country
Communion, Yes, Max Webster and Rush

Smoother: George Benson, Larry Carlton, Robin Ford, Norman Brown and Rush

For country, it's the classics: Rush, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Albert Lee, Verne Gosdin,
Dwight Yoakum and Rush

When I want to hear Rush, I like the classic Rush sans synths, and Max Webster

I also like 60s bubble gum ala Marry Me Bill, Nana Nana Hey Hey Goodbye, etc., and I
occasionally listen to classical and elevator music - like Rush (hey, it's my elevator).

Max Webster. They helped Neil write Tom Sawyer. And Geddy plays a jazz bass these days. New CD is one of their best (and I've listened to them since Day One). We like a lot of the same stuff but can't warm up to country. Did you know Gary Moore died a year or two ago?

Funny you should mention Rush Biv, as you remind me of the lead singer - there was a great TV program on one of the cable channels just the other day about them. I saw them at Wembley back in oh.....80? 81? somewhere round there.

Yeah, I knew about Gary. It was another 'out of the blue' thing. Not very old, but he was starting
to look worn out.

Rush recorder with Max Webster. They did a song called Bust the Busters or something like that,
and both bands played on the song. How much more bass and drums could you need. It's an
awesome song by two awesome, off-the-wall bands.

I just never "got" Rush. I understand the incredible musical talent of the members, especially Neil Peart and Geddy Lee. But I never enjoyed their music. I guess I'm not a progressive rock fan. Come to think of it, I never like Yes either (except for "Roundabout").

Never liked The Moody Blues either.

I'm more of a boogie woogie / blues guy, I guess.

And who could ever forget The Allman Brothers' cover of Blind Willie McTell's "Statesboro Blues":

One of my happiest days was when I learned a reasonable cover of Duane Allman's opening slide guitar riff that comprises the first 45 seconds of that song (although I played it on a lap steel). Thought I had died and gone to heaven.

Cream's great. I tend to like both the good covers as well as the originals with guys like Leadbelly, Robert Johnson, and Bo Diddley, for instance. Some purists are just pretentious and often posing, if you ask me. I love the Bo Diddley version and have heard it more, but this came on the radio earlier this evening, and it was fun to hear -

That's fantastic, Pappy. I was typing and hitting up youtube, so I posted before I read about your enviable accomplishment. I am finally, finally teaching myself guitar only now:facepalm::facepalm:. I'm listening to that Allman Brothers track as I type, and can you believe I've never heard it? I'm gonna click right over to Amazon to buy whatever album it's on. Just so great. I've recently inherited this Les Paul from my great uncle, which is such an honor - 2006 Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus in Honey Burst - Artisan Guitars, but I won't touch it until I become worthy of it by practicing on the beat up old guitar beside me:laugh:. I'm sorry to sorta bogart this thread, but I do wish more of the HHV Army would share some of their most beloved tracks. I think it's a good way for folks to better get to know one another:vapor:!

You see? Just way too much great stuff I've never heard! No, Nole, I'd never heard that. I think that now that I'm playing, I'm really appreciating his sort of music much more than I have in the past. Do you enjoy any HHV juices? Get a big vat of Huntsman and join these fine folks:D! And now for something completely different...the latest band I've fallen hard for is Adrian Orange and Her Band (he also puts out some albums as "Thanksgiving"). No one will like this, but I'm still putting it up:p.

Becky, that's a fabulous guitar and you should be really proud to own it. My advice is take some lessons, learn some music theory and practice until your fingers bleed. Then practice some more.

I'm not a good guitarist by any stretch of the imagination. I never had a lesson and had very limited ability, so I never advanced very far. You may find you have a knack for it. Even though I rarely play any more, I do find that it soothes the soul to pick it up and play sometimes. It's therapeutic.
