Thanks a lot Rickajho. I'm prepared for the experience to be very different from normal cigs. The first thing I've read that alarmed me a bit is it can be dangerous to inhale e cigs the way you do with normal ones. That could be a problem for me, I automatically inhale. I realise you have to draw the vapour in slowly I have no problem with that.

I was reading on the new members info page that you don't inhale it into the lungs so to what extent do you inhale it? Maybe I misread the whole thing. I'll have to have another look...

In my own experience, I have tried both ways. to slowly intake and hold it before inhaling, and then just to smoke it like a reg cig. I find no real difference, at least to me. I smoked over 40 years so trying to break that habit just isn't happening. All i know is that my body no longer thinks it is smoking real cigs. I can taste, smell, run, jump, do stairs, swim just about everything I could not do when I was smoking. Now, there is nothing holding me back. As it has been said, each person has a different experience so do what is best for you.
Good luck.
:)

Silent Scream, I've been vaping for over 5 years & had no problems at all with inhaling the vapour - far from it. I used to be a very heavy smoker, on average 50 a day  As you can imagine, from smoking that much for many years I had dreadful breathing problems - not any more!

It is definitely best to begin with to draw the vapour into your mouth & hold it there for a few seconds before taking it back, until you get used to the difference between vapour & smoke.

Thanks Sugar and Chrissie. I just wanted to know it's not dangerous to inhale it. I've been looking round the forum and people are talking about mods, attys, juices, PV and VG I have absolutely zero clue what any of this is it's all looking a bit daunting lol.

All I want is a holder that doesn't look like a normal cigarette (I don't want a substitute I want an alternative if that makes sense) and with a nice taste, maybe start with a tobacco type taste. I have so much reading to do.

There is brilliant info here on ECF to help you, but this thread on AAE-C UK is aimed more for anyone in the UK -

Sorry Sugar_and_Spice, I crossed posts with you. Often takes me ages to post on a night time as I have to delete the typos made by cats sitting on the keyboard :D

LOL. Yes, I have had that problem......:)
No harm, no foul. You post whatever you want. I, for one, don't feel like I have been slighted in any way. I am glad you posted. I too smoked over 50 cigs a day. Not the entire 40+ years that I smoked, but it ended up being that. So, when I say that ecigs have literally saved my life, I am not kidding. I am thankful everyday for having found them and this forum.

:)

Yes, There is so much to absorb, it can be overwhelming. Just take it slow. Suggestion. Make yourself a budget. And see what you can get for the same amount that you spent on cigarettes. When I started, I think I spend the equivalent of 2 cartons of cigs on supplies and battery. Take small steps to find your way. Its not a contest. lol

Hi again

It's not that inhaling is dangerous - but it can be really, really annoying.

First, most of your nic absorption happens in the oral cavity - not in the lungs - so lung inhaling isn't necessary to get nicotine out of the experience.

Beyond that, PG in liquids can be really irritating for some folks and lung inhaling will send them into coughing fits far worse than anything they experienced with smoking. (That would be me when I started.)

All I can say is try it. If your liquid throws you into coughing fits - don't do it - the lung inhaling thing. Approach it more like a cigar: Take large, sort of open mouth drags into your mouth and to the back of the throat... and that's it. When I started it took me weeks to unlearn a 30 year deep lung inhaling habit. I don't miss that part of smoking when it comes to my vaping style. I prefer the "cigar" approach myself.

Thanks again Chrissie and Sugar for the extra info and thanks for the welcome Rat2Chat.

I must say I'm amazed at the great welcome and excellent advice on the new members section, I've only just joined. What a fantastic forum, this is all new to me and all this help is really appreciated.

Welcome Silent Scream.

I am having small palpitations here that you bought an e-cig from a shopping mall.

Does it look like a plastic over-sized cigarette or is is something completely bigger/different?

I only ask as around here there is only 1 shopping mall e-cigarette and the last year of my life has been spent trying to stop people from buying this product. I spent a colossal amount of money on it, I got nicotine cravings almost as bad as cold turkey.... I shan't go on.

It took a reply on this forum (by Chrissie) to save me from stubbornly putting my trust in a product which was close to useless and exists to make millions of pounds not to seriously offer an alternative to smoking.

Good luck. :)

About that whole "where to buy stuff" matter.

That thingee in your profile where you can enter your location is important. When we are paying attention that location info does help us sort out things like referrals to suppliers in the right regions. If I'm in doubt I ask. No matter where some folks are located, some will only want regional vendors, others will order from anywhere international.

Anyhoo, the supplier forums are here => E Cigarette Suppliers Forum There are sub sections for UK/Ireland and Europe suppliers. It won't be 100% comprehensive, but still worth checking out to get your bearings and to look for sales and promotions.

Now that you have over 5 posts in you can also post in the UK forum too! That would be the place to get specific advice on suppliers. The general forum areas is great for all sorts of help, but when it comes to shopping the UK is kind of in it's own world. I've seen a lot of devices that sell under a completely different branding name in the UK. Same hardware - totally different name applied to it.

That's the thread I was reading which seems to say inhaling is bad but not bad (draw vapour into mouth then inhale if desired) the message was kind of unclear. You are advising against it but inhaling is kind of nailed into me I have been smoking so long. I don't know if I could get used just drawing the vapour in and exhaling. Maybe I will, who knows. I have a million things to learn about e cigs as it is I'll just add that to the list :)

Hi djs, I didn't actually buy it (it was called Smokio or something similar) I just tried it for a few puffs, the guy was trying to sell it to me. It wasn't unpleasant but I just could not get past the fact it looked like a cigarette. I would feel stupid fake smoking a fake cigarette lol.

Phew. I can go to bed... hooray!! :)

I never felt bad about vaping on a plastic stick.

The one you tried will be smoko or ismoko. The refills will be stupidly expensive and i.i.r.c. they do 16mg cartomisers (cartridge refills).
You did well to avoid it. Now e-cigs are not in imminent danger of a ban, there will be hard selling and hard advertising all over the place, from TV to newspapers to internet to shopping malls. It's going to be open season on innocent people who want to try e-cigs.

If you want a starter kit, why not have a look around the vape escape Vape Escape or myepack Myepack.co.uk websites or google uk ecig cabin or ask around on here.

Home bargains do an £8 starter ego but the liquids are just terrible.
Paradise vapes do a starter eGo kit.

We have a store in my town which sells a battery, tank, charger and liquid for £49.99. All this would be available online for under £20.

The next few years are going to be very interesting indeed, but people are going to be ripped off so badly. I was thinking about retiring from my campaign but somehow I can't. Only last week I met a couple who've spent £2,000 on ***** and haven't even given up smoking.

People are quitting smoking on £9-£29 kits and a £3 bottle of liquid. It's that easy.

So I keep going.... :)

Nah - you read too much into it. The two points to take away from that (rather lengthy and technically verbose) article are: You get the majority of your nic in the mouth so lung inhaling isn't necessary. You can lung inhale if you want to - but unless you hold the vapor in your mouth first, you won't get any nic out of it with a "straight shot" style right into your lungs.

Besides you can still exhale through your nose, blow "vape rings" - it's all good. :) You'll sort it out.

Then there's the flavors - you already had a taste of that. This just tastes so much better than smoking.

Can you recommend a good starter kit?

Yeah I'm probably reading too much into everything at the moment, so much to take in and I'm probably subconsciously alerting myself to potential problems that aren't there. I am definitely going to go for this in a big way next week I just have to decide what I want to use to start with.

Thanks :)

Can you recommend a good starter kit?

As I really like and rate the Kanger mini protank, I would suggest the myepack mini protank kit.
OR, you could get a "double" battery kit. One battery is great to try out vaping but becomes a problem, um, um, as soon as you need to charge the battery.

I started vaping properly (100% of the time) after my failure with plastic sticks on a double Riva kit from Vape Escape.
Then I got a Vision Spinner and had 3 batteries.

If I was buying tomorrow (or recommending) and money was no object, I'd order 1 mini protank kit.
I'd find a "Spinner" battery from anywhere that seems a good price
an extra mini protank and a selection of e-liquid.

That's going to be £50 minimum, hence starting with just one all-in-one kit and putting extra stuff on hold until you find your feet.

For liquid, Grizwald at vape escape does samplers (they are v.v.good liquids) and Joose Juice are doing a crazy 10ml for £1.49 tester selection which you can tailor make. I have 4 on the way.

Vapeland do a cheap-ish double eGo kit too. VISION V3 EGO BLACK KIT - 900MAH

Any of these are not going to let you down. I have no affiliation.
