Yes, the VG has its slightly sweeter side. I think Nic does to, though. I had some other brand and I gave it away with the person knowing that I thought it to harsh. I forget the brand. I switched to NicRiver as someone mentioned above.
To get around the high shipping, if less than a $50 purchase, look at getting some DIY or other stuff they may have.

Welcome glad you are finding the resources you need. If you can get 50/50 or PG only I would recommend that. I have to use VG base nic (sensitive to PG) and it tends to be a bit of pain to work with. Gloopy best describes it indeed.
