Hi all, GREAT site! I normally am not a fan of (for lack of a better phrase) addiction sites. But after lurking here the last day or so looking for e-cig info, I am pleased with the info and the compassion of the members here to help people quit smoking. Kudos to YOU!
I'm 33 and have been smoking Camels since I was 13 (mostly a pack a day). I've wanted to quit for a few years now, but I just love smoking too much. There's no cutting back for me. If I want a smoke, I'm going to have a smoke!
I tried welbutrin, but after a week I was walking around in a rage. I read up on welbutrin and found anger was a common side effect. That wasn't going to work. After that I was a discouraged and figured it would be a while before I would be able to cut back (not happening without something major happening), or find something else.
I had heard of E-Cigs, but... Well... Not for me. That is until I tried my friends' ecig the other day. This MIGHT work!

This morning I ordered the ProSmoke Deluxe starter kit. I'm excited and I can't wait!
Hopefully, I'll be sharing some of the same successes as many of you!

Thank you all!

Welcome to ECF,

Yeah I am sure many of us tried welbutrin among other things, I didn't have issues with the anger, but for 2 weeks hubby and I didn't sleep more than 5 minutes a night. Needless to say that didn't help us not smoke.

Make sure you drink enough water, and ask if you have any questions. There is bound to be someone that can answer them.

Good luck!!!

Thanks nancy,
Yeah, Wellbutrin was not for me.
Drink lots of water? These dehydrate you more than cigarettes? Are there any other side effects?
Thanks

So Calif
Side effects I've noticed since vaping:

I drink water like a camel preparing for a long desert trek
I don't stink
I don't smoke
I don't hack up a lung every morning
I don't wheeze
I don't run out of breath walking or climbing stairs
I don't burn holes in my clothing
I don't have to wash ashtrays
I don't have my cat avoiding me and wheezing
I don't have yellow hair, teeth and fingertips
I don't have to run to the convenience store at 3 am to buy stinkies and a lighter
I DO love my life a lot more than I did before.

Viva le side effects !!

It's great to meet you, Patrick, and congrats on quitting the analogs! I noticed when I first started vaping that I got chapped lips at first and kept chapstix with me, but then it went away after a couple of weeks. I don't notice drinking more than I used to, but I've always been a big water drinker because I used to drink alot of water when I smoked analogs. lol. I have vaped for a little over a year and virtually cannot smoke an analog. Every once in a great while I will try one, and after one or two puffs I have to throw it out. I never thought I would ever be able to feel that way about analogs. The only other side effects I've had a problem with as far as vaping goes is posting on ECF and reading it alot even though I've never cared about forums before. And Patrick, the only big hurdle to some people is finding the right flavor of juice and setup that you will like and that satisfies you. Don't get discouraged and if you ever feel like you aren't liking the flavor or there is not enough throat hit, or whatever, there is always many other options to vaping out there to try.

Congrats. I'm a long-time lurker, newbie poster. Switched to e-cigs in early April ($14 a pack in NYC was getting a little rough). Although I'm not 100% smoke-free, I've gone from 2-3 packs a week to 4 packs in the last 3.5 months (2 of which were consumed during a business trip to China, where a client insisted I smoke with him). I love not having to febreeze all the time, not getting winded when I stand up, and lots of other things about vaping. As MiamiMom said, finding a flavor is key. I started with pre-filled carts, but have been buying the liquids to get more variety. Some are good, some are bad, but even if half of them ended up in the trash, it's still cheaper than cigs...

Best of luck!

Welcome to ECF and congratulations on giving this method a try.

I have been through numerous attempts to quit smoking using every aid I could find. When I found the vaping method I knew this would have to be it for me. I definitely notice the dry mouth effect and just drink more water, which is good for us anyway!

One thing I noticed when I first quit cigarettes is that vaping is it's own thing and is different from smoking cigarettes. You may still have some want for the cigarette (I did, but not everyone does) but it's a LOT different than quitting cold turkey in terms of withdrawal. Much easier.

I am sure you will have more questions as you start vaping regarding different aspects so feel free to ask away. There are lots of knowledgeable and helpful folks on here.

Good luck and either way, let us know how it goes for you!

welcome to the ECF!

You will find everything you need here. As others have mentioned, experiment with different vendors, setups, and juices, and you're bound to find something that works for you. It's no simple task, as you still have to be mentally prepared to stop smoking cigarettes - but vaping sure does lessen the burden, and has become a hobby for many of us as well. Good luck in your endeavor my friend!

Welcome oldpaddy! I started smoking at 15 and pushing 60 soon. Started vaping in February. Good luck with this new venture and I hope you can quit smoking.
I, for one, still reach for a smoke, take about 2 or 3 drags and put it out. I do this 2 or 3 times a day, but down from 1-2 packs a day smoker! I chain vape most of the time, except at work of course, when I have to wait for a reasonable time, run to the bathroom and vape away for a few minutes. I sometimes go outside with the actual smokers and most of them look at me quizically when I'm vaping, and I've told a few what I'm doing, but no converts yet LOL.

Anyway, yes, do drink lots of extra water. Sometimes, there are hurdles along the way like when my cartomizers or a clearomizer once allowed nicotine juice to flow-back into my mouth! Holy crap does that sting! [I use anywhere from 12mg to 24 mg nic juices](and the backwash caused a few ulcer-like lacerations on my tongue geeez!) On those occasions I did relapse and smoked more cigs than usual, but my tongue was better the next day, so back to chain vaping LOL.

I stopped coughing up a lung every day within a few weeks of when I started vaping.
My lungs must be healing up nicely and I have more energy.
My voice isn't as raspy as it had been getting, (ever had a conversation with a 80 or 90 year old woman who's stlil smoking and her voice sounds weird?...mine was becoming like that LOL)
I do have some congestion, but could be allergy related and nothing to do with vaping.
No stinky smell on my clothes or in my house.
That yellow stain not on my TV or windows anymore LOL, so staining must've been caused by the tar and other byproducts of smoking analogs I suppose.
So many good things come from vaping IMO and nothing too negative other than finding the juice/flavors PG/VG and equipment that will work for you.
Again, congrats and good luck! We're all here for ya :vapor:

Wow! What a great group of posters here! Encouraging, engaging and positive?! Am I still on the internet? This is like Bizzarro interent.

Thank you all for your words of encouragement and helpful tips, I really appreciate it.
I really hope this works. It's funny though, with all the reading about vaping, I've been smoking like a chimney! Hopefully this is my last hurrah.
Really, thanks everyone :)

Welcome! And remember that as you leave the cigs behind, your taste buds will change...so that the great juice you like at the start, may not be all that great down the road. But, then you get to have the fun of trying all kinds of flavors! Best of luck on your new journey!

Very true to what Dragonbroom says as far as your taste buds changing. It took me about 2 months to find a juice I really liked for all day vaping. The one I fell in love with originally started tasting weird. Finding your yum juice takes a lil bit of time. I thought I would die smoking. I smoked for 30 years and tried to quit several times. I had even tried laser treatment on my ears. It took away the physical withdrawals, but I still had the emotional withdrawals. And my problem always has been that I just truly enjoyed smoking. Now I can enjoy it and not feel guilty. People ask me when I am going to quit vaping. Maybe never but that's okay. I've lowered my nic alot and I don't feel guilty about it anymore. I was one of the lucky ones though that fell in love with vaping immediately and it was never hard for me to put down the analogs. I can actually remember waking up in the morning at first and thinking about how excited I was to vape with my cup of coffee instead of smoking because I just enjoyed it so much more.
