Macaws are gorgeous!! Thanks for posting that convo with Leo; many really can use language appropriately. Not mine, sigh.. She has a tendency to yell POOOOOOPIE whenever people are over. Caiques aren't really known for talking and they sound funny when they do. Macaws are like feathered toddlers. I don't think that they get super hormonal like other breeds. What about your pionii? (Is that what they are? )

Thank you, but there seems to be a bunch of that going on in this forum. Ya'll are the greatest. :)

Macaws are gorgeous and wonderful birds, but my research has led me to believe that, as passionate as I am about my critters, I could never take on the mega-enormous responsibility of a bird that intelligent and that large (not to mention, that capable of serious human injury!). :::sigh::: My Eclectus pair (Leo & Glory) are nearly too much of that already. Hormones rule this roost!!! They have large vocabularies and have clearly cognitive convos with us regularly. They speak clear as a bell, like little girls. The Blue-Headed Pionus pair (Bo & Bella) are easy keepers. They are not the smartest kids on the block, but they are super sweet and easy to work with. It's easy to tell if they're a little hormone-grumpy, so you never have to get bit. They talk like 85 year old men that have been smoking for 70 years!

Wub my birdies.

Macaws also live longer than most people! Your pionus pair sound a bit like my caique; I know when I should leave her alone unless I want a new piercing for free. She probably sounds like them when she talks. It's kinda creepy when she is saying: Come here baby bird, come here pretty!.
