FDA has got me all tweak'd and it
Looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and drop some cash on 1 (or 5..lol) high quality mods here soon. I also plan to add a mech to the list for added security. I'd love some ideas on mods with great build quality that I can rely on to last. Provari? SX mini? What are some others I should research?

On the other hand, should I instead look into buying several cheap Pico's or similar vs 1 or 2 higher end mods?

Provari? SX mini?

That's what I bought. The SX Mini M Series is almost indestructable and if you don't always subohm, the $29.95 Provari 2.5's are amazing and come with a 1 year warranty that even includes shipping both ways.

I'm definitely going with some Provari 2.5s with some mechs as back up. I'm trying to figure out maybe one or two other regulated mods (would love a box-type mod) with known reliability. I'm strictly mtl, no sub-ohm, so older tech is great for me. I hope you get some suggestions here.

Provari Radius
Oh yeah, I allow myself to drool over that one once in a while. If these were normal times, I'd likely splurge on it. I even had it in my cart at one time. But I have a certain amount of funds in this limited time we have left, and I feel I have to be practical to the extreme, to pack the most gear in that I can. The Radius just feels out of reach to me at this point.

I've had my eye on that Radius as well. I've purchased several cheaper regulated mods instead. I'll see what happens.

I just started using the Pico and they are awesome, so I bought several more. Obviously not the same quality as Provari but one bad @$$ little device. For $26.95, you can't beat that.

My way - to buy several cheap mods instead of one expensive. In worst case scenario manufacturers of expencive devices will be out of business and warranty will be useless. And anyway, when stockpiling for 10+ years, 1 year warranty means nothing.
Example: Provary Radius ($200) vs Pico ($26). I am pretty sure 3 Picos will outlast one Provari and they will save you $120 (enough for another 4 Picos and a bottle of bourbon).
Buy the way, I buy only cheap regulated mods ($16-$34), and in 2 years of my vaping nothing had failed. Nothing at all.

I do have to wonder what good lifetime (or even 1 year) warranties will do us at this point. That is why, at least for most part, I want to stick with devices with known reliability, that have stood the test of time. Again, in normal times, I would try the Pico (would love to actually and may yet), but it's not been around long enough to have much of a track record.

Great input! Thanks for your reply. I'm looking at an SX M class now on sale for $99. But awaiting shipment of a Pico now. May just need to order a few more. :)

Firm believer in Provape! I have 2 Provaris and a Radius. (I also have a bunch of try it once back-ups. I bought them, tried them once or twice and put them back in the box for later. Reuleaux RX200, IPVD2, etc) You should throw a Reo or two in there too! They're about as indestructible as they come!
