I am not feeling the high voltage atty love. I thought it was just gonna take a period of breaking in, however, on day 3 I am still not getting the vapor. I have to say the flavor is a little more pronounced, but I miss the vapor. I also have to take drags until I about turn blue, lol. I am using the 510 HV atty...

I started out at 6v. Couldn't get anything out of them until I went to 7.4v. Even then, more flavor but very little vapor. The guy I work with experienced the same thing. The one thing I noticed is even though I'm not getting much vapor, the atty gets hot pretty quick at 7.4. It does cool down quicker than the regular 510 or 901 though. For now these have been made spares and I am back to my 901 attys at 5v. Just my 2 cents...

Yeah, I've wondered about that. If those HV attys take about 2V off the power coming from the batteries, what's the point of using 6V? But then I am no techie, so I don't really understand this stuff. I just wonder.

You know what is working great for me? My 801 atty with a $3.50 adapter from GoodProphets connected to a 380 mAh XL Kr8 battery: a poor man's Cisco Laser mod. It's pretty long, of course, but it does match what my avatar is holding.:)

Actually, using that atty and adapter even with the 280 mAh Kr8 battery works great as well. Not sure why.

Don a typical Atty ( that I have measured ! ) are around 3.5 ohms , the HV one I have is 5 ohms.
3.5 Ohm @ 6volt = 10.2 watts @ 1.7 amps
5 ohms @ 6 volt = 7.2 watts @ 1.2 amps

the higher the power the more heat the atty will generate , it does NOT change the voltage !! it changes the POWER

Heres a link to an OHMS LAW calculator
http://www.ohmslawcalculator.com/ohms_law_calculator.php
Hope this helps ?

So the lower the ohms, the higher the power? And the higher the power, the more intense the vaping experience (e.g., throat hit, vapor)?

You said "typical Atty." Does that vary from model to model? For example, 510 vs. 901 vs. 801?

If so, why isn't this talked about more here? I'm no physicist (or even electrician), but, like most vapers, I have a lay understanding of volts and mAh, at least for comparative purposes. I'll get more puffs per battery charge with my 280 mAh Kr8 or penstyle than my 150 mAh Joye510. And any of them will be more intense on my 5V Prodigy than on my 3.7V skinny batteries. I get that.

It sure would be helpful to know what the ohms ratings are for the various atomizers.

BTW, a dumb question for you: Do batteries have ohms or just attys? I suspect that even the phrasing of my question is "dumb." [I may be the most prolific forum contributor;), but I'm not the most technically astute.]

My wife keeps telling me to write a "Vaping for [and by] Dummies" book ... I'm certainly qualified.:D

There is a VERY long discussion of this here:

Made my head spin, but I have to admit I do have a better understanding of it now...

Don I hope I explain this clearly ???

Theres a clear relationship between , volts - Ohms- amps , Ohms Law calculates these relationships ( V over I/R ) where v = volts , I = amps of current , and R= resitance in Ohms , all of electronics and electrical is based on this.
Power /watts is calculated based on this relationship.
Example : if the V is fixed @ 6 V ( like a battery ) and the R is 3.5 ohms the I =1.71429 A , and the power is 10.28 watts. play with the calculator link it will help you to understand the relationship.

More power = more heat from a heater coil

The attys I have checked are around 3.5 ohms 901,510 ( only ones I have tested ) I think Nerf has a list of atty OHMS ?

Attys have ohms batteries are not looked at that way ( they have an inherent resistance )

Batteries are storage mediums rated in Volts and Amp hours ( or mah , 1000th of an AMP HOUR ) your 250mah batt has more storage capacity than you 150mah , a 250mah batt. can run 250ma for 1 hour until it hits a rated discharge amount ( I cant remember but I think it 60% or so ???? dont quote me on that ! )

I hope this helps and does'nt just cause MORE comfusion:confused: LOL ! , if you have any other questions just ask me I have many years in the electronics area.

There are some WAY OUT THERE statements made around here regarding V/I/R !! and some seem to think that there is MAGIC involved , but it is as simple as OHMS LAW ! ALWAYS !!!!!! ( HELL your cell phone would'nt work without it )

Im not feeling the HV attys either. I bought two 510's from nhaler and tested them on both my xhaler and chuck at 6v and it was difficult to draw anything. All I got was less vapor and alot of juice in my mouth. I would stick with the regular attys. However they do not get as hot as the regular ones but Ill take my chances. I havent killed any attys yet.(Knock on wood)

Thank you ... I think. Wading through 13 pages of both technical and miscellaneous posts is not my idea of a fun evening. We need an Isaac Asimov (his non-fiction) or Carl Sagan. Can't some techie write an illustrated guide to vaping technology?

Haha... I feel your pain, BUT it helped me make the decision of where I want to go next... and while I am responding to your post, allow me to offer my sincere gratitude for your guide to vaping. It also was a long read but well worth it!

i should have payed more attention to ohms law when i was in electronics lol. all i get out of the hv stuff is it accually lowers the volts that decresses watts. if ur vaping at 5 or 6 volts why would you want to lower it. i thought the hole point of the high volt mods were to vape at high volts lol i mean... i cant just vape on my normal 510 or stick my 3.7v batterys in why buy a new atomizer lol kinda silly maybee im missing something. i cld see ur ur running 7.2 volts they can bring it down to 5volts. the sweet spot. thats all i would use the hv attys for.

well what everyone is really trying to do is 2 things using these HV attys,

get longer life and get somewhere around 5v using 7+v to start with as 7 is too much.. lol
