Hey everybody, I'm Betamaxx. I have a Smok GX-350 mod and a Smok TFV-12 Beast King tank. I am at a loss as to what wattage I should be vaping at with it though. I have tried wattages all across it's range except on the low end, and anything I try above 90 watts will usually end up producing a nasty burnt taste. Is this normal? Or am I using the wrong types of juice? I am vaping on a 80 VG 20 PG juice. Please let me know if you need any more information in order to answer my question.

General rule of thumb with Variable Wattage Devices with new coil heads, this applies to your GX350 and your TFV12, set the wattage low (generally the lowest wattage rating for the tank coil head), prime the coil properly. Priming properly means getting the wicking saturated, generally dropping liquid into the coil head top until soaked in and saturated throughly, if any slots with exposed wicking soaking those areas as well. After than then install it into the tank base, assemble the tank if top filled, then fill the tank, if bottom filled fill the tank then assemble. Attach to mod, set the watts to lowest rating for the coil, let it sit for about 5 to 15 minutes before use to let it soak in some more juice if it needs it.

Now you start taking 2 to 5 second pulls at this lower wattage, every 20 to 30 minutes of continuous use, up the wattage a bit for another 20 to 30 minutes, we are gradually breaking in the coil and wicking, like warming up the engine of a car during the winter from a cold start, after about an hour or so of constant use like this the wicking should be working to optimal. After you can start taking large bumps up in wattage and taking longer pulls, the moment you get a hint of a scratchy, not dry and harsh, a scratchy hit, bump the wattage down about 5 to 10 watts on that TFV12, that will be the maximum sweet spot for the coil and that particular juice you are using, being an 80VG you liquid will wick pretty slow so you can't really chain vape on it like a pacifier. Remember just because a tank says it coils can do XXX amount of watts, thats not taking into account the flavor of liquids that will be used in them and what the end use, "You", can handle. Some flavors are absolutely stellar at higher watts and absolutely awful at lower watts, while others are stellar at lower watts and abhorent at higher watts, also no two users with identical devices and juice will have the same settings after they been vaping a long enough time to understand their pallete preferences.

Another caution just for the GX350, appears to be a full on series battery configuration, using 3.2v lowest battery charge per battery for a total of 12.8v lowest (quad battery) and 6.4v (dual battery), using the Watts Formula of Ohm's Law (Watts/Voltage)/90% Control Chipset Efficiency=Max Amps

20amp Batteries in Full Quad Battery Setup = 241watts max
20amp Batteries in Dual Battery Setup = 120watts max
25amp Batteries in Quad Battery Setup = 288watts Max
25amp Batteries in Dual Battery Setup = 150watts Max
30amp Batteries in Quad Battery Setup = 350watts Max
30amp Batteries in Dual Battery Setup = 180watts Max

hth a bit.

Thanks for the info IMFire. I got impatient with this last coil and bumped up its wattage 1 watt per hit. I guess that was too fast because I just took the coil out for replacement and it was very burnt with black crap on its metal parts. Alan I currently have a V12-X4 in my Beast King but I just installed it so I'm now vaping on an Eleaf Melo RT 25 with a V8-T10 coil at a safe 90 watts. I plan on letting that V12-X4 sit for a good 15 or 20 minutes before I start vaping on it.

The juices I'm vaping on are Lost Art Eliquids Gummy Glu and Blue Ribbon Dallas. I got Gummy Glu because I had successfully vaped it at 80 watts before and it's tasty, but it's really sweet and I heard at the vape store that sweet eliquids burn out your atomizers fast. So I switched to Blue Ribbon Dallas. It seems to only be able to handle about 95 watts. And for the record, yes I do chain vape. I chain vape and do the direct to lungs inhale.

Oh and one other thing I wanted to add- I just tried vaping Gummy Glu at 130 watts in my V8-T10 and no burnt taste since the atomizer was already broken in! Experience has shown me that usually vaping at the very bottom of the "Best" range of wattages on the atomizer produces big enough clouds without a burnt taste.

You have to consider this too that sweeter and higher VG liquids have a tendency to caramelize on the coil if vaped at really high wattage and that too can give a burned taste because it's like the char left on your grill after your done cooking on it. If you start getting a hint of flavor as you bring your wattage up that wasn't pleasurable you're probably over atomizing the liquid and need to back it down to where the flavor is once again consistent with what it was prior to the power increase. Heat does help intensify flavor but certain types of Juices just don't like very high wattages.

Yes that did help a whole lot! I just recently noticed that after I vape at 130 watts on my Gummy Glu with my Melo RT 25 (TFV8 clone) that my tank will start bubbling after I take a hit. I guess this bubbling is due to wicking. So If I wait the full 10 seconds or so for it to stop bubbling before taking another hit, I don't get the burnt taste! I guess my problem was I was machine gun vaping without waiting enough time for the juice to properly wick.
