I've literally been vaping so much Wakonda that I think I have my first serious case of vapors tongue for this juice. has that stopped me from plowing through it yet? NO - I like the vape that much, that even once rendered close to tasteless, the vape itself feels so good its the closest thing I have to an ADV!

that said I probably should stop it for a few days to taste it again

I just built my first nanocoil and it reads 0.0 ohms on my MVP2. I used 28ga Kanthal, about 10 wraps around a 1/16th drill bit. by the chart I'm using (Using drill bits to wrap coils | VaperCoils - Build the best coils.) it should be a workable ohm for my device. Not sure what I did wrong but I'm in no hurry to try again as this was painful - I've always been bad at crafty stuff, and this was really difficult to do, especially getting the rubber insulator back in! x.x

and when I tried cotton through a stock coil, I may have used too little - i got some gurging and bad taste even after wetting the wick to prime it and letting it soak for 15-20 mins. primer puffs also.

off to a bad start :glare:

Dont get discouraged. It took me a good 8-9 attempts before I got one that worked properly. Is it a Protank coil youre trying to rebuild? If so I found 28ga was too thick and needed too many wraps for that small of a space.

it is a Protank coil - you could be right but I'm going off a rip trippers video where he uses this gauge. He also uses a 20 gauge syringe needle to wrap it around and uses 12 wraps for about 1.1ohm. but the chart i linked to shows 1.4 ohm for about 9-10 wraps around 1/16 drill bit so thats what im trying for.

seems like the end wrap (my first around the drill bit) is uneven with the rest, with a bit of an arch to it. furthermore they;re not all TOTALLY touching maybe because i didnt blowtorch it. overall it looks good though, so i'm not confident what the issue is. i thought the MVP2 was supposed to register lower ohms on the reader, just not fire below 1.2 - so 0.0 reading makes me think its totally wrong.

The first wrap you make shouldnt count as a wrap. Just use it as a guide to get the coil started. Unwrap it and straighten it out and pull it down real hard and it will line up with the rest. I use 30ga on Protanks with about 7 wraps around a 5/64 drill bit and usually get around 1.6-1.8 ohms. Make sure the wires arent getting crossed when you thread them through. I did that a couple times when I first started.

ok, gotcha...I'll try it again now after all. maybe also I accidentally have the end wires touching. i had to push and squeeze and twist to get the rubber insulator back in so who knows. Kent recommended maybe i use a bigger drill bit, so if this doesnt work I may try that too. i had no idea the first wrap should be straightened out and pulled tight...will definitely try doing that now.

It sounds like you're shorting. Could be contact with the bottom or sides. I agree about 28 gauge being a little thicker than ideal for a protank. 29/30 gauge is great. Right around 1.8 ohm or so.

^^^^This. Make sure the coil isnt touching the inside of the base.

just re-checked it for fun...now reading 0.5 ohms. O.O'

Definite short. Without being too vague, something is definitely making contact with something it shouldn't.

Also, I was AWFUL at hand winds. Then I got a pin vise from amazon and worked on tensioned coils and it all got better. Even if not perfectly tensioned, the wraps are much tighter and closer than any hand wrap I've ever seen .

pin vise, i'll look into that.

I'm taking a breather...just got what i think is a much, much nicer coil than my first...i think it's 12 wrapsm blowtorched, all wraps touching, now i've got it cooled off and it's back on the drillbit...here we go!

Try to keep it centered. If the coil touches either side, you'll get a short. With 12 wraps of 28 gauge, there's not much wiggle room.

good lord..the rubber insulator is the hardest part for me by far. tips on how to do this?

Thats gonna take some trial and error. I slip the grommet through the wire then push the grommet in just a little on one side. Then i push the rest in. You have to make sure the wires dont push up. Leaving it in the drill bit helps as does pulling the wires down extra tight before pushing the grommet in. Pull the wire thats outside the grommet over the lip of the bottom of the base and itll help keep it in place.

actually, I think its sitting too low in the base. not sure if the affects the ohms but I wouldn;t be able to thread this if i tried

Are you keeping the coil on the drill bit when you put it in the base? Leave it on the drill bit and it will hold it in place
