I just recently found out about this huge world of ecigs and all the gear that's available . Boggles my mind .
I am presently a 1/2 PAD smoker, my quit date is Nov. 12 , the day after we get home from the Dominican Republic .;)
My plan is to start using 18mg nic and slowly start reducing the nic level until i'm at zero , at that point i'm hoping to quit that too .
I have a very basic Electro Vapours 510 torch and extras of everything , fits the bill perfectly for me .
I can't believe the amount of people that actually make a hobby out of this and the equipment that some folks have .
I am not passing judgement on anyone , just curious if you folks with all the latest stuff and piles of vaping gear started out thinking like me and you created a monster along the way or was it initially your intention to have a new hobby .

I have been a PAD smoker for almost 40 years minus the four years I quit off and on....I have tried so many times to quit and for various reasons went back to it. With the e-cig my plan was to smoke the real cigs at home and the e-cig at work. That worked good except that on weekends I was not doing the e-cig at all, just the cigarettes. I started reading here and ordered another starter kit and before I knew it I had four kits, some small some larger....then I started ordering the juice....and then I decided I refused to do both so I stopped the cigarettes and have been vaping ever since. It does look like I will have some heavy vaping days......but this is the best thing I've found to 'mock' the sensation of smoking and honestly, I really like smoking. I have collected a few things over the past weeks but I think in the long run I'll find what I love and stick to that. :)

What's up bols? Good to see you here! Hey...you might be my first official convert :) . For me, it's all one day at a time and I'm not going to overthink it. As you are aware, I have a lot of changes going on right now and that's the best I can do. In RE to modding, etc...I'll most likely never really get into it. I'm happy with my 900Mah eGO and carto tanks...though I think I'm going to pick up a twist as backup and just to have...maybe try some ViVi Nova tanks in lieu of my carto tanks as well. But that's about it for me I think (I say that now).

Some folks definitely get into the hobby aspect of it big time...a lot like it is over there on the PUP...sometimes I think forks are more into their mods and whatnot than the p'up itself...same with these things.

Like most people here I started vaping to get off cigerettes but however I got addicted to the flavor and everything else with Ecigs. I started out thinking I would be out of this in a few short weeks here I am 3 mths later enjoying every bit of it and wanting to vape more wanting to try more liquid, Wanting to try more devices Loving the journey for me it started as a way to get off cigs now its a hobby that I won't give up anytime soon. My other hobbies I had to get rid of due to a life altering incident. This one is a easy hobby I enjoy.

And nothing beats being able to pick up my ecig after eating dinner in a restraunt that is non smoking and be able to vape

At 1/2 PAD, you don't have the same reference that many of us do. I was 1.5PAD, and the $10.50/day savings goes a LONG way in justifying the expense of the cool stuff. hehe. ;)

Well said! a LOT of us using expensive mods have to. At 2 packs a day for 30 years I found that the cig-alikes just dont work for me and that my savings from not smoking anymore allow me to afford the more expensive devices. Its a means to an end for me as well as I hope to eventually get off vaping altogether but time will tell.

There are certainly far less healthy and legal alternatives than vaping :)

I felt the exact same way until about 20 weeks into quitting when I realized that while I was saving $20 getting the 510 disposable tips at the gas station vs. buying cigarettes, I had spent about $225 on them. I guess I could have just gotten a bottle of e-juice and pulled the ends of the disposable tips and refilled them multiple times til they burned out, but instead, I got a nice VariableVoltage Mod, a nice tank and loaded up on many sampler packs of e-juice... Still saving money over smoking the stinkies, but now I have an electric nicotine ....! :p

I haven't started collecting hardware yet - I have a very basic setup. But, my collection of juices has more favors than Baskin-Robbins!

I quit the stinkies so I'm around to see my kids grow up, but I don't have any interest in quitting nicotine. I tried just about everything on the market, but didn't like who I was without the nicotine. So when I stopped smoking and started vaping, I was looking for a healthier alternative to get my needed nicotine. Eventually I might start stepping down from the 24mg that I'm vaping now, but I'm in no rush. I'm just thankful that I've made it 2 months smoke-free with only 1 instance of craving for a cigarette.

I knew I would never quit smoking. Then I discovered this world. My goal is to cut down the nic hopefully to zero at some point in the future. I know I will never quit the vaping because of the physcological hand to mouth that cig use for over 40 years has created. But then again, who knows what I may end up doing? I knew I would never quit smoking but yet, I HAVE!!! One day at a time, my friend, one day at a time. ;)

:toast: X2 "one day at a time" amen to that

Yesterday was a lousy day at work... Stress is one of my triggers... First time in months I had wanted a cigarette... & after thinking about the "triggering", I dreamed last night about lighting a cigarette, taking a puff, and then I threw it down and said "..." ... Never underestimate an addiction...

As of today, I am 4+ months into vaping. (not quite 5) I had no intention of quitting smoking (40+ Years 1 1/2 pad) when I ordered one of those $5.95 free shipping cigalike kits designed to hook you on their expensive pre-filled Cartos. I now have a number of twists in different sizes, one spinner, a couple of vivi minis, and some rebuildable<-sp? V3 clearos. I am pretty much happy with what I have so far. It gets the job done for me. Not much into fancy mods but an ECF friend turned me on to a small mod called the "The Gripper". I want one! Fits in the palm of your hand and seems like it would be perfect in situations when stealth vaping would be appropriate. I am more into function over form when it comes to vaping so I guess I would not call myself an avid hobbyist. On the other hand, I do appreciate quality and reliability. I would like to give up vaping someday but not close to that at the 4 month stage.

If it scratches your ich and keeps you off cigs, go for it ..... ;-)~

I haven't smoked a cig in two years. I was a 1 1/2 pad smoker, and smoked for about 30 years. I am healthy, but knew I should quit. I started vaping to cut down on it. Then I decided to try and quit smoking all together to see if I could. I guess to a degree it is a hobby for me as I started mixing my own eliquid, and buying "pro model equipment". Still, I've saved money, and don't miss tobacco. I enjoy vaping, and at this time have no intent on giving it up. Also, for me anyway, I don't have a desire for cigs anymore. I use 18mg liquid, and enjoy mostly tobacco flavors. I "mix" it up now and then with menthol. I like fruit flavors every so often. The best part is I can make them exactly to my tastes at any time

I bought my first ecig to use as an alternative to smoking when it would be more convenient. Had no intention of quitting smoking when I placed my order. ;) That thought quickly changed to, well why not give it a try and see if I can quit smoking. Kicking my addiction to nicotine was no where in my thought process nor was turning vaping into a hobby :D Quitting smoking happened fairly easily for me and that was a huge surprise. At the time we were still awaiting Judge Leon's ruling as to if ecigs were or were not to be considered a pharmaceutical product. My first additional purchases beyond what I really needed to vape were to ensure that I would be able to continue to vape, at least for a while, if Judge Leon ruled in favor of the FDA. Lowering my nic usage would also mean I would need less nic IF the ruling was in favor of the FDA. It was extremely surprising to me how easy I found it to lower that nic mg level. Judge Leon ruled against the FDA and somewhere along the line it became fun to try different stuff and a hobby was born :D :p Honestly I firmly beleive the hobby aspect of vaping is what made it so easy to stay smoke free when I was still occasionally dealing with thoughts of enjoying a cigarette.

Along the way I became free of my addiction to nicotine. It's now my choice to enjoy some nic or not. I wouldn't really classify vaping as a hobby any longer. It's still fun to try something new once in a while but no longer something that I in any way feel I have to do. I'm totally content with all the vaping toys that I have. I have no plans to stop vaping anytime in the near future. Although I had no plans for a lot of things that I've done since I started vaping so I guess I'll just have to see what happens in my future :)

I dont know about a hobby yet but I am chasing my personal holy grail of vaping. A cigarette sized device, that lasts a long time that gives me a good vape, isn't fragile and dosn't look like a high doller (OTHER ITEM) . The more I vape the more my wants change. Who knows I might end up with some thing that looks like a light saber and fills the room with steam before long. Right now though loving my 400 mah spinner
