It is not a joke !!! The native americans ( and I have done also) tan deer etc hides, using the animals brains.
That and a LOT of work, makes a skin or hide come out as soft as flannel. Then the hides are usually smoked to give them different colors and it helps to preserve/waterproof them. They smell and feel wonderful when done right.

A "Brain Tanned Hide"???

There has GOT to be a joke in there somewhere...

But after 3 glasses of wine, it will have to wait until tomorrow...

yea-make beaded pouches, sheaths and cases to fit a lot of different things-but Hog mods need to be seen !!
Still have not made one for myself yet-but then again, "the shoemakers kids go barefoot"-LOL !!

This calls for a completely different thread...for Native American porn! I mean, ya know, hides and beads and stuff (poor word choice). Bet you could make some awesome mod wraps...ya know, for those that aren't already beautiful in their own right like Hogs are :)

I have always loved deerskin as well. I had some custom made Thurlow deerskin motorcycle gloves that were amazing. Very luxurious, soft yet very strong leather. The could even get wet without get stiff when dried.
Best leather item I ever had.

Checking in :)
Those blocks are going to turn into some purty piggies!

I still haven't seen my choices together. I'm getting a bit worried that the finished product isn't what I thought it would be:cry:

This is why I would rather wait for the magic Mike creates in his general sales. He can see all of the beautiful colors and choose the perfect combination of woods.

Yeah, I sat this round out so I could see some of the finished products .. just too much new wood and my imagination isn't very good for seeing what it'll be like finished. I'm loving that redwood .. thinking it might be nice with purpleheart caps/inlay ... but I need to see some finished products before I order again.

If anyone needs to sell a Hog to buy a new one, PM me. I have a friend who is looking. Thanks!

What wood combo did you get this round trouble? Sorry if I asked before, but my old timers kicks in quite a bit lately :(

Bolivian Rosewood body w/ Purpleheart inlay and caps. I nearly went with the Wenge body, but I don't like the texture of the grain. I'm curious to see how dark the Rosewood is and how it contrasts with the Purpleheart.

Something tells me it's going to add to my collection yet nicely:)
