Ok, one more for you mod perverts...this one is great...

The very first Hog was a tad wide (relative to the current Hogs). The new slim design is awsome. Amazing that it is the same width as the Buzz...WOW!

I'm hoping he will make a couple 3.7s in purpleheart with some darker wood ends. I don't really want a VV .. too big for my little hands. (HINT HINT MIKE) since there have been a few people who liked the purpleheart. I think he'll be working on the VV for a while first though ... which is good, 'cuz I just found out how much money I've spent in the last six months and put myself on FULL STOP ... but give me a couple months to forget (I'm old, afterall) and then I can buy more!! Yeah, that works.

Rock, those are GREAT shots!! What wood is Daddy VV made of? I know the new feeder VV is Poplar. It's amazing how small he has gotten these. The man just has the use of space inside them down to a mad science and doesn't bulk them up on the outside...all win.

CC, the VV's will be $160

Both of Rocks are poplar.
Every once in awhile I find some oddball pieces of poplar and pick it up.
You can find everything from greens to pink/purple, to black in poplar.
Its a little softer wood but some the natural colors and patterns are pretty cool.
Look back through some of the poplar mods I've put up and see how much they differ. I dont stain any of the woods, everything just get clear coats and oils.

I received Hogmod #17 yesterday, and what a beauty it is! I would’ve posted this last night but I would’ve had to have taken one hand off Hamton (my daughter loved Tiny Toons) to type, and that wasn’t happening :)

Mike, you are a true craftsman! Rarely am I impressed or inspired sufficiently with an inanimate object to review or critique it, but you’ve accomplished both so I feel I owe it to you, brother.

This will start in a really sentimental tone, so if you’re looking for the meat, just skip this paragraph. I used the word “received” because getting this mod was in fact a reception of something special. In our cookie-cutter, make-a-thousand-units-a-day world, “receiving” a unique, hand crafted collectible is in itself a seldom encountered experience; even more so when it’s also a high performance creation of technology. Personal touches start jumping out immediately: hand lettered to/from addresses on the eagerly-awaited package. You don’t get that from Amazon when you order a blender. Opening the well insulated box revealed a small parcel carefully wrapped in soft fabric and cross taped more like an exquisite gift than a utilitarian appliance. Finally exposing the mod to the light of day actually created a moment of reverence…the beautiful figure and grain of the wood itself was stunning, preceding appreciation of the fit and finish by only a millisecond. Holding the mod was like picking up a fine European shotgun; if I’d sent an image of my hand for reference it couldn’t have been better fitted. Even after all my years in Asia I own very few things I would consider treasures of craft, but to be sure, this is one.

Ok, enough of the mushy stuff. On closer inspection, fit and finish were even greater than first impression. I took the back off and put it back on about 16 times, marveling at the perfection of the part mating. I’ve done a lot of woodworking, but I couldn’t come close to that kind of fit on my best day. It actually took me a minute or so to determine where the separation of body and door even occurred! There were a couple of small routering flaws inside the door, but they did nothing to detract from the fit and functionality of the mod. In fact, although cliché, they added to the character of the piece. I showed the mod to the master modelers here at work, and they were equally impressed with the workmanship. The minor flaws elicited the “Wow, this really IS handmade!” comments heard only when one realizes they’re holding something that didn’t come off a CNC driven water jet machine. Hardware installation, wire routing, and soldering were professional grade, although there were a couple of loose solder balls that fell out when I removed the door (oops).

After loading the mod with a fresh AW IMR 18650, filling the huge (after my Reo Mini) juice bottle with my favorite VR Kentucky Blend, and installing a gutted LR Boge 2.0 Ω cartomizer and drip tip, I fired up what can only be described as vaping Valhalla. Diverting my girlfriend’s attention from The Young and the Restless is no small feat, but the ensuing cloud of vapor from the dining room accomplished it . Again, the fitment was not at all unlike holding and firing a finely made pistol, only with less recoil ;). The vaping experience of a stock Joye 510 with a SR atty and Dekang juice from only a couple months ago is but a dim memory now!

But, it’s an imperfect world, and I felt it only fair to evaluate this mod with the same critical scrutiny I would apply to my own work, so there are a couple of somewhat negative points I will also share. I was a little disappointed that I did have to use the somewhat cheesy battery spacer supplied to make the most commonly recommended battery for these mods in existence fit properly. I do understand that it’s an imperfect world once again, and tolerances exist; certainly not a show stopper. I do appreciate that the spacer was included! I disliked that I had to remove the pickup tube from the atomizer connector nipple to fill the juice bottle. I imagine it’ll be quite some time before the operation of removing and reinstalling the tube on the nipple stretches the mouth of the tube sufficiently as to impair a tight fit, however, so I won’t lose sleep over that either. If I’m doing that wrong or there’s a better method please enlighten me. My only real issue would be the lack of a master switch or firing pin deactivation mechanism. Put on a force gauge here in the lab, it took less than nine ounces of pressure to engage the button to detent and fire the device. To me, considering the significant current capability of even a safe chemistry battery and the potentially catastrophic result of accidental and prolonged activation, I would probably never feel completely comfortable carrying this mod in a pocket or backpack with the battery installed. A minor inconvenience for practical carry, although I’d be worried about losing the silly little spacer ;)

All that said, this is such a beautiful device that I wouldn’t want to carry it around like my workhorse PVs anyway as they tend to take a beating. This will definitely be a relax-at-home piece where I can enjoy the finer things without having to worry about spoilage from the harsh, cruel world. This mod is truly a prime example of the whole being far greater than the sum of its parts. My Megalodon (sorry, Donna) and Reo aren’t even in the same class in regards to workmanship, F&F, design, and functionality. I feel lucky to have acquired one and privileged to own one. So thank you, Mr Michael…top notch and spot on!

Now I’ll need one in American black walnut, one in Tennessee red cedar, one in………sorry, I guess other people can have one too, I shouldn’t be such a Hog :p

EDIT: For the sake of accuracy, my wise friend BiancaMontgomery has pointed out that leaving the cap off the bottle removes the need for removing the pickup tube/dripper tip assy for refilling. I'll add myself that in the instance of a juice change, removing the atomizer and blowing through the connector with the bottle removed would clear the tube of most of the previous juice.

That's what I get for not reading the instructions first...:?:

Oh, duh.... That makes sense, then there wouldn't be a need to twist the bottle to pull it off the dripper tip. It's not like the bottle is going anywhere....

Thanks, B :)

Great review 2mtech!

FWIW, I never use the threaded cap on my Hog bottles and I fill them connected to the atty tube...I don't ever take them out of my Hog mods..but I also only vape one flavor, so there's no need for me to wash out the tube.

So, you are saying it vapes better than your Reo Mini? The mini is all I have right now. These are the types of things I need to know!

P.S. The bottle discussion makes no sense to me. Is this something that becomes clear once you have the mod in hand or am I just lost?

If you look at your mini tubing and bottle, you'll understand. With the Hog, there's no O ring in the cap, so it's really not even needed on the bottle at all. I leave mine off, never use it. So, when it's time to refill my bottle, I just tilt the bottle out and pop the dripper tip up and refill...everything is still in the mod, and the tube is still attached to the connector. Pop the top back on and done deal. :) It takes about 5 seconds and there's no mess.

Edited to add: Imma make a video!

Yes, my Mini is a sad comparison to the Hog even with the same setup topside...not sure why. I have no doubt the 1600 mAh battery will last much longer than the sad 14500 that I only get about 5 hours out of.

In the mini you can unscrew the bottle from the cap/pickup tube assembly and remove the bottle from the mod without removing anything else. The Hog bottle still employs the dripper tip which is tightly sealed around the tube so that you can't turn the bottle and unscrew it from the cap because the dripper tip won't let it turn (hope that made sense). What Bianca is saying, as I just proved on mine, is that leaving the cap off the bottle solves that and it still seals just fine.

The only blue county in Texas!
Bianca is smart! :p

Okay, that makes sense. I wasn't thinking about the dripper still being in the bottle since my Reo doesn't have a dripper at all. My device just isn't hitting very hard right now and I'm not sure what the problem is but it makes me sad because it's my only device atm. :(

And ~ Bianca is making a video!!!! Woohoo!
