I just gotta say, I used to have a wood feeder from another vendor. It was a gorgeous mod and I really wanted to love it, but I could never vape with it because of the god awful Tung Oil smell and taste. I let it air out for almost 2 weeks and it still reeked! I finally just gave up and sold it. On the other hand, my Hog's Mod was vape ready from day one. No foul odors or tastes AND my Hog's Mod rivals the fit and finish of that other much more expensive mod. Great job Mike!!!

I feel you. I don't want to say anything negative about the other two feeders I've owned, but they just didn't work as well for me as my Hog does. One of them fed great and was a great size, but the 14500 battery wasn't a good match for me nor did it feel as comfortable in my hand as the Hog mod does. The bigger one was just too big really...and the feed system wasn't a good match for me, but it was stunning to look at for sure.

The Hog just has all the things that work for me in one small and beautiful package.

Is anyone else vaping 2ohm Boges on their Hog? Very very nice! I also run 1.5-1.7ohm LR Joye 510's on it...what are you guys using? I haven't found anything it doesn't work with...even feeds a LR 901 w/ an adapter. I had a dual coil on it the other day...it fed it well, but I keep thinking the top coil was going to dry out. Never did get an off or burnt taste though.

You weren't the only one! ;)

You wouldn't believe what I went through to try & get rid of the smell in that box. I finally gave up & sold it. The creator told me there was nothing he could do about it, & it would go away.

BTW...God is not awful!

What woods were this tung oil applied too? Tung shouldn't be used on some woods, I understand Walnut is one culprit, if it's not going to air out for some time. I have quite a bit of woodwork I use tung oil on and have found a few combined produce an extended disagreeable odor. Most air out in two to three days. Also, if you like the tung finish but not the odor you can dilute it by adding 1/3 mineral spirits.

Two other things: 1) If you like the tung strength and finish, after it dries apply a coat of a simple wax (Brad used Briwax but at home on furniture I use Lustra), that helps a lot almost immediately. And 2) make sure your "Pure" tung oil doesn't say it was boiled during processing because although that apparently improves the ease of application and sheen, it smells unholy.

Brad, who is an expert, may have better information... but that's what I have gotten over ~ten years of owning a ton of handmade wood furniture. -Magnus

Well after trying a ton of different finishes on these boxes, Tung oil(pure), Tung oil mix, Danish oil, Boiled Linseed oil, Shellac, Polyurethane. I think What I like best is a nice base of shellac for sealing followed by several coats of Arm r Seal by general Finishes.
I know a couple people got a mod with tung/mix finish and one with the Arm r Seal finish. Maybe they can chime in and let me know which one they liked better.
I know they have a totally different look and feel to them, maybe if I start taking pre-orders in the future we can have different finish options as well.

I've got one of each Mike and I can't pick a favorite. I love both finishes. Just thinking that maybe the Arm r Seal is the more durable of the two.

What do you suggest we do to keep the wood in good condition? Is there anything we should be cleaning them with? Mineral oil or something?

The Arm R Seal finish should need no care except for an occasional lighty damp rag wipe down then drying.
For tung oil, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, I just wipe it down with a damp rag and dry. If it gets really bad looking I give it a rub with 0000 steel wool and wipe it down with a thin coat of tung oil and let it sit for a day or 2. Good as new.

And here's a size comparison of the 3.7v and the new VV boxes. Pay no attention to my mod, I beat the hell out of it on a construction site.

Ah yes I should have mentioned the Howard's feed and wax, every mod gets a rub down with it before leaving. Pictured center behind the mods in this pic.

Ok, been trying to find some better catch cups to no avail. Anyone able to point me in a direction?

Whatever Brian is using for the new ones at RSM look solid. Brad is using something from Brian as well now, although I'm not convinced they're the latest Brian is using. Brad's are brass and can come in chrome. Brian said his latest are SS. They're nicely sized for all attys and cartos and look like they'd hold a whole bottles worth of drool. So Brian and Brad are the "direction" I point you in good sir. ;-) -Magnus
