ok, uneducated question. what kinda switch do you use? have a lamp next to my chair with an adpter that makes the intire body a touch switch. dont understand that either, just know it works.
thanks davido....oh and great work on all of you mods A!!!
Hi Davido,
My mod does not actually use a switch at all, I use a touch-pad to trigger an "n-channel" MOSFET (metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor). Basically, the MOSFET acts as a solid-state switch. Please refr back to post #6 for the diagram.
As you know, current flows (or should I say ELECTRONS FLOW) from negative to positive. The MOSFET has 3 legs: Source, Drain and Gate. Negative battery voltage is applied to the Source pin. If the Gate (control) pin goes positive, the MOSFET allows the circuit between Source and Drain to close (become complete). When the Gate goes negative, the MOSFET opens and current stops flowing.
There are 2 resistors in the circuit (not counting the LED resistor). The resistor between Source and Gate draws the Gate down to negative, which opens the circuit, when you are no longer touching the pad. The resistor between Gate and touchpad is to prevent the mod from firing off in your pocket if it happens to find something metalic in there (change, keys, etc).
Your lamp works differently, sensing your body capacitance to trigger the FET. My Poorvari (designed originally by Donptal in The Philippines) uses your skin's conductance to complete the circuit, different altogether.
Uhhhh, sorry.Wwhat were we talking about ?????
