Im wondering what the response would be from the store clerk when I said 'hey I gotta steep my juice!'

You might want to stand way back if you do. Just sayin'. . . .

So, did the juice "finish" so to speak? Humor aside, did it work? Mike's experimentation indicates that it is more heat than cavitation that ages the juice.

Actually, Mike went on to conduct more controlled tests. He made one batch of juice, put 1/3 in a crock pot, 1/3 in an ultrasonic, and left 1/3 alone. Then he sent a set of samples (blindly marked A, B, and C.) to me, Danny45, and Rocketpuppy - each in a different part of the USA for our testing. We did our tasting/testing and sent these samples on to another person.

The testers all picked the ultrasonic as the best. Closely behind was the crock pot brew. The unsteeped sample was third in every case and obviously different.

There is little difference (we found) between the UC and the CP steeping. Both had a very noticeable effect on the juice.

PS - I applaud you for the deep reading you must have done on this forum in order to find Mike's post. This place is full of answers being offered by the "oldtimers". I sometimes feel like I am trying to separate the vitamins from the manure...

Then I went on to repeat the test several more times and actually compaired it in 1 week stages to the base sample as it also matured naturally to get a better idea on the UC and crock pot results as compared to natural steeping. The results were conclusive that

1. UC did the best in the shortest amount of time

2. Crock pot was a very close comparison with only a 30 minute difference based on a 4 hour steep.

All test produced the exact same results over 4 different trials.

So the recommendation is

If deciding between a UC or crock pot let the expense be your guide as there is very little difference between the two methods. Both work exceptionally well..

If you already have a UC your ahead of the game.

If you have a crock pot and are trying to decide whether to upgrade to a UC save your money as a crock pot does just as well.
