I will try to keep it brief, but thats sometimes hard for me. :)

A great deal of vaping successfully seems like a pretty exact science.
Mixing DIY juice is pretty exact.

And we seem to have a ton of smart people on here with a fantastic knowledge base.

What bothers me is sometimes to help fellow vapors we need all the facts. But one fact that is constantly estimated is how much you vape!

People say, ooh I am a moderate to heavy vapor. What does that mean and how can you be sure?

What I would like to do is collect some data. I would love it if at least 100 members could take the time throughout one day to count how many drags they take. And If you could tell me how many hours that count covered.

Then I would like to make a chart either by day or by hour (haven't decided yet) based on the info. Then we could begin to categorize wether we are "light" or "heavy" vapors based on our findings.

I think for simplicity sake we will leave out the duration of each drag. I think the average is probable 4 seconds or so. Feel free to give that info too if you like though.

What do you think can we get enough people together for a nice large sampling ??

I will start us off. Yesterday:

7a to 10p (15 hours).
235 drags. (I did count, even made some notes a few times so I didn't loose track)
3.5 second drags estimated average (optional)

Thanks in advance, we can do this.

Just a question, and/or a suggestion, Big Hitter. Why count drags, when that is so labor intensive and likely to be inaccurate, as it would be so easy for people to lose count over any extended period of time?

It is so much easier, and thus likely to be much more accurate, for people to simply keep track of the amount of liquid they use. For example, I have a spreadsheet where I write down the date I open a bottle, the date I finish using it, and of course the size in ml. of the bottle. Then I simply divide the amount in the bottle by the number of days the bottle lasted, and I know exactly how much liquid I used per day. As I have been doing this over quite a long time, I can now state with a high degree of accuracy that I average 1 and 1/2 ml per day.

People have actually been using the "ml per day" as a reference point for quite some time here, and on other forums too. So I believe there is already a rough sense that 1 ml or under per day is perhaps a "light" vaper, up to 2 ml per day seems to be quite common so could be said to be an "average" vaper, and those consuming 3 or 4 ml per day might qualify as "heavy" vapers.

That is just my take on it, of course, and others might chime in here if they feel I'm off on those "categories". But the idea of counting drags just really seems to me not the best way to gather the data you're seeking.

yvilla - I think whether that works or not depends on how you vape.

For example, I have 3 assembled PV's with different juices that I'm randomly alternating between right now - and sometimes I even have 4 or 5. Since that's the case, and one of those is a 2ml carto, it could take me several days to need to refill it with random, sporadic use - it's pretty easy to lose track of when I last refilled. If I'm switching between several batts, cartos, and atties at any given time, with several different juices, it's just as easy to lose track.

Also, you have to account for how much juice you're losing in a cart or carto. Unless you drip 100% of the time, you're not vaping a certain amount of juice that you use to fill with - it's getting stuck in the filler or the wicking material and, essentially, poured down the drain.

Counting puffs may not give a precise amount of liquid, but it does give a feel for how much a person vapes. And the way I vape, counting liquid would be just as difficult and possibly more confusing than counting puffs.

Yea the ml per day doesn't work for me. I have way too many devices going and cartos that I switch off and on.

Heck I can do 8 different flavors a day.

I realize you can loose count, but you really only have to concentrate on doing it one day.

I made notes and did a count till breakfast then wrote it down.
then till lunch and wrote it down.
etc.

It was not difficult.

i've got some numbers for you already from the pitbull beta test. over the course of 2 hours, i took 148 puffs...figure i'm awake on average from 5am till 11pm...so that's 18 hours...approximately 1332 puffs that averaged in the 3-5 second draw range, depending on the juice and device i was using. i might add that pretty much the only time i'm not vaping is when i'm sleeping or eating.

Holy crap :) what nic level are you at? I though I was heavy at 235 a day! This just proves my point why we should get this together. Maybe i am a light weight :) You would have a hell of a time convincing my wife that though!
