i built my first coil :) 12 wraps of 28g kanthal on a 1/16" drill bit. it came in at 1.6 ohms and i'm all sorts of proud of myself :p first juice? gcd, of course :)

the only problem i'm having is it's not producing much vapor. is it possible that i used too much wicking (cotton labo) and am choking off the coil? any help would be appreciated!

If you're not getting a burnt cotton taste, then it's probably unlikely that you're choking the wick. It's probably more gonna depend on the gear you're using. I usually make coils around 1.1-1.3 and get great flavor and vapor from my RDAs. I use dna devices though, around 15-17 watts. Great job on your first coil though! There's really no other way to vape in my opinion.

EDIT: Meant to add, I would love to see pictures of your build. Might make it a little easier to get an idea of what's going on.

Cuse, welcome to a whole new world of vaping!!!

When I first started vaping I said "nah, I don't need to build coils and wicks, my clearos are just fine..." Now I look at my Halo Tritons and Blu cig-a-likes gathering dust...

I convinced a friend who vapes @ our San Antonio office to try dripping and mechs. Let's just say cloud envy... He just ordered some clone stuff today. I couldn't convince him to go straight to the REO and save some money in the long run. He said he couldn't get his wife to buy off on spending the $$$... Oh well, he will soon learn...:vapor:

i don't know what happened, but i am getting TONS of vapor now! woooo!

clark, if you need to delete/move this, it's all good :)

If you used cotton for wick, you discovered the "break in" :) Good job!

This.^^

Grats on the coil wonderful feeling when you calculate, build, and then get to enjoy! I was like that too I saw the guys at the B&M puffing on their mechs and thought nawww I just want to stop smoking. Well we all know how that turned out for me.

And me too...now I'm an insane PT head rebuilding Reo toting Dibi (x2) wielding fiend.

That is the downside to squonking for me the fiend variable, I filled the bottle 3/4 of the way full at about 5pm well it's 11 now and there is barely 1/4 bottle left in my Reo. It's just so easy I forget I am vaping way more than in the Nautili.

Now I see why I am going to need that gallon of Virus in the XXX jug. :D

It's not so bad is it? :) Congrats on that first coil I know i was proud when I did mine a few months ago and it worked! I use the ReadyXWick.

Tracey

No break in with the ReadyXwick and it lasts for months. I finally had to change one of mine out after 6 months. It had hardened to the point it was not wicking any more. But I won't be doing without this on hand. It is far too easy to dry burn wick and coil, fill and go!

My first coil took me 15 minutes to put together. Now I can swap one out in about 3 minutes. I was probably over thinking it. Congrats on your first of many builds!

Is anyone using ReadyXWick in a Reo? If so, do you find you have to squonk more often and keep the wick soaked? I was used to rayon with almost no dry hits and find I have to really pay attention with this or aaacccckkkk.

I'm a huge cheater, I couldn't ever wind anything smaller than about 3/32"-1/8" but I got a coil gizmo. The tension micros are insane even if I have to use a jewelry tool. :D

Damn gaming makes my hands lock up sometimes, and that's a pain in the .... when making coils. Downside I just gave myself a nic buzz a minute ago and I'm scared to vape around the pets, it's like Party City in here with all the fog.
