So, my 901 finally arrived this morning (or rather, it tried to arrive yesterday when I wasn't here, so I went to collect it this morning) and I left the battery charging as I left for work - following the advice to charge for 12 hours before first use.

I also have some Dura/Titan Carts in Cherry for a couple of reasons: 1) I knew that the carts which come with the 901 are meant to be pretty rank in taste and 2) I wanted to try a cart with a round mouthpiece, just my preference, and was told these carts would fit.

Now while the Dura/Titan carts do fit the 901 I have, they're a little loose and I think are not airtight, making it hard to vape. Additionally, there seems to be a minor juice leakage issue using these carts on the 901, so for now I'm gonna stick to the 5 various carts which e-cigs supplied with the unit, until my juice arrives.

Now these carts are vaping pretty well, even on this new atty, but I am certainly getting a bit of the burnt taste that many here have described on new carts/attys, so I might clean the atty I am using before bed tonight and leave it to dry overnight, or even try the 2nd atty which I also ordered to see if I can remedy this, would people agree this is a good idea?

Apart from that, it seems to be going ok so far, I'm getting a decent throat hit from this, although the taste really is godawful if I'm honest. (I have the "regular-low" cart in at the moment, I'll go higher as time goes on if I need to). The main thing I'm missing is the real "buzz" of an analog, which maybe is hard to get with an e-cig, or perhaps will come with time, juice and more nic content, but for now I'm just gonna get on with vaping and see how I do.

Any further advice or comments more than welcome, you've all been a great help on here so far!

Yeah, I'm getting next to no vapour now with either atty, even on a fresh cart. What would people recommend?

I've blown out both of the attys and some liquid and other crap did come out, but right now I don't have any juice to drip back on the atty, dunno if that could be a problem or not?

Would I be best to run hot water through one atty, then leave it to dry overnight and compare it to the other in the morning, or am I likely just going through the breaking in period? Both attys taste terrible, regardless of what cart I use (as I say, I have no juice yet, so cannot try topping off or refilling), a terrible burnt taste on both most of the time - that's when any vapour at all is produced...

I probably vaped the equivalent number of puffs to a couple of analogs, so wonder whether perhaps I've emptied a cart already?

I'm sure lots of n00bs have these same kind of problems when starting out, but just wondering what people think. I'm also having to drag harder than I'd been led to believe I would need to, probably as hard as I drag on an analog - is that normal, and if not, what might be the problem?

Appreciate any help and advice, really don't want to have to go out for an analog tonight!

Congratulations on getting your first ecig!

First off, a 901 cart will run dry pretty fast. A couple of dozen sucks and it will be empty. You can get a little more out of it by holding the unit LED down so that a bit more juice flows into the atomizer.

New atomizers come primed with a terrible tasting solution that lingers for a while at first. But here is a question - when you pull the cart out and look at the wool, is it still white abd fluffy or brown and a little melted? If there is melted wool on the attomizer it will taste terrible too. Be careful not to twist off your carts too, wool can stick to the atomizer and then melt next time you vape.

901 atomizers do tend to need a bit of a break in time, and it takes time to get used to vaping. You need to practive getting a good drag and doing the primer puff. Also you will get to know when to change / top up carts with experience.

Some 901s are a tighter draw than others. Take your time getting used to it. Take a primer puff of about half a second, then a drag 4-5 seconds long. Then wait about 30 seconds before your next drag, to be sure you aren't over heating your atomizer.

Low nic carts won't give you much sensation of a hit. They can satisfy craving, but higher nic content might be needed to tickle your throaght. What analogs are you on?

Thanks for all the comments Frog, I'll do my best to help you to help me!

Fair enough, I probably emptied it then - I must admit there didn't seem to be much liquid in the wool when I took the cart off to have a look.

The wool still looks white and fluffly, maybe a little more grey than white, but certainly not brown at all. Thanks for the tip about twisting the cart - I had been doing this, but will stop now!

Yeah, I have been doing a primer puff, but as you say, it will take practice. I also need to give the atty at least a couple of days to break in I guess.

This is pretty much what I've been doing, so I'll just keep practising and hope things improve.

I usually smoked Marlboro Lights or Camel Lights. I'm going to try a new (slightly more nic content) cart now and see how I get on. Will report back!

Ok, I had definitely emptied that other cart, and have now done one more too. Going to probably give it a rest for today now and try again tomorrow. I know us newbies tend to vape more to start with, but would going through 3 carts in under 3 hours be normal, or recommended?!?

Still got a really horrible taste coming through too, but I guess that is probably the primer on the atomiser as you mentioned. I had a look and couldn't see any burning of the cart wool (which I have taken out on the last cart and checked for colour, definitely more white or grey than brown), but there did seem to be some material of some kind on one side of the arc of the atomiser, which could perhaps be contributing? I have used some toilet roll to gently clean out the atty as I have seen recommended on here by some - perhaps that has left some material on the atty and is making the taste even worse?

I've got some Janty juice on order, so hopefully that will help when it arrives and I can start refilling/topping off. Will I need to clean the atomiser and the cart before I refill and what would people recommend as their preferred method of doing this with the 901?

I always used to blow my 901 atty out at night with a can of air and leave it standing on end to drain. Use kitchen roll rather than loo roll (it doesnt come apart) to wipe the inside of the atty and keep it clear of the coil. With some juice you will do much better IMHO, carts on a 901 are a bit rubbish to be honest. You can then top off or drip and just spend some time getting used to it. Marlb lights are about the same as 11-14mg juice.

I smoked and vaped together for two months before switching to vaping, its a transation for many. Strengths, flavours and methods are very personal and a trial and error thing. You just need to find a way that works for you
