Hooters restaurant on pineridge road in Naples FL... I asked my waitress if I could vape.. She'd never seen an e-cig. I explained it to her and she said it would be fine. I vaped about two hits and the manager came over and told me I couldn't smoke.. I explained that I'd asked permission and tried to show him the e-cig.. He said "I can't have smoke in here". I told him it wasn't smoke, etc. etc... I didn't want to push the issue so I put it away but this was pure ignorance on the part of the owner?/manager. I was all but thrown out and would have been if I'd hit the e-cig one more time.. Outrageous.. I can see if I hadn't asked first..Be careful out there

Threads like this really make me wonder why we don't have a Name & Shame sticky around these forums...
For whatever it's worth, I don't vape in public places like restaurants, stores and the like.
It gives the illusion that I am really smoking and that isn't a confrontation I'm intersting in having

Basically the waitress was open minded, but the manager was looking at the fact that other customers might not understand. Yeah I'd be a little peeved at the outcome but that isn't my decision, nor the girl with the humongous knockers and tight ... in those little orange shorts (love Hooters btw)..
If I were manager of an establishment and I didn't know any better (read: Haven't done research), I'd assume the worst and make my decision based on that. It doesn't mean he's an ignorant .......... just means he's a skeptic. There's nothing wrong with that.
As for blowing vapor in someone's face.. That's just ridiculous. People like that are hurting more than helping. They're the same people that will ..... and whine and moan if/when PV's are banned, when in all actuality their attitude and actions are a reason that caused it. This holier than thou attitude thing that comes with vaping needs to stop. If I'm vaping, I don't hide it. But if it's bothering someone, I explain it to them, and send them in the proper direction for researching. If after that, they still don't want me doing it around them, I'll give them a chance to research it and try to avoid doing it while they're close enough to see any vape. I, under normal circumstances, Ie. in a privately owned establishment, or non-smoking area (breakroom @ wal-mart) hold off on puffing if they're in my vicinity. Blowing something they know nothing about in someone's face is just stupid, and hurts our efforts to let the general public know.
Hiding it is just as bad as blowing it in someone's face imo. You're not doing anything wrong. Trying to hide it, just gives people the impression you think you're guilty of something. If you are the personable type, able to communicate without being obnoxious and overbearing, opinionated and holier than thou, then you should use that ability to help our cause. Do research, learn for yourself where to get unbiased (that means either way, positive or negative) information. After that, once you know where to direct people, then you can point people in the right direction.
When you were old enough to find a better way to get your fix without hurting other people (physically), you should've gained the mentality to get your fix without unnecessarily offending people.

When I went on the rant, it was more directed at people like the guy that posted about blowing vape in the guys face at wal-mart, then blowing it at the camera (that, as a wal-mart employee, know had a 1 in 5 chance of actually recording).. like he was hot xxxx. Loved your idea for the tube feeding the atomizer.)

It really comes down to how you approch it. I have vaped in this very establishment without issue. I did not ask anybody anything and did it in stealth mode. Seems to work no matter where I go.

How strange. A Hooters here in St Pete, FL - I asked the manager, and allowed me to vape. I told Him I would be as stealth as possible, and if anyone commented he could tell me and I would refrain. He thanked me and all was good!
A Name & Shame sticky is a great idea. Vaping is going to get bigger and bigger and once it's discovered that a business names is there, owners, managers, aren't going to like it.
That sums it up perfectly. I have stealth vaped in many restaurants and never had any issues.

I don't tend to vape in public establishments unless I stealth. The only place I think that they should allow is without question is bars. Smoking and drinking have gone hand in hand for decades (or longer). And if I have a drink, I like to vape with it. I can hold off vaping at a restaurant or a store...most of the time.

It wont take much time before people know about vaping. We just gotta hope all the hokey articles stop, and they tell the real truth about vaping.
this is interesting cause i work in naples and i live in bonita springs, which is just north of naples, and i pass by there all the time, daily even, but anyhow it really doesnt surprise me because this town in general is 1 big stiff, its a RICH RICH tourist town with tons of money flowing thru it and everyone is better then everyone else, and to be a tourist im pretty sure its unspoken law u have to be 75+ and not have a F'ing clue how to drive, anyhow, the city itself tried to even stop hooters from even building there because it was too "riskay" (cant spell it) but in the end lost, obviously, but i just do it anyway and try not to annoy anyone anywhere i am, and if im told not to do that then i dont, enough said
Put a pen cap over the LED when you're out. It doesn't look like a cigarette then. Tell them it's your nicotine inhaler to quit smoking. If other patrons complain, the manager can tell them the same thing and all will be good. By all means, don't refer to it as a "cigarette!"

Next thing you know, they'll be kicking us out of restaurants for having alcohol on our breaths and say the alcohol vapor is getting other people drunk. Same premise.
