After reading PTJD's response I'm editing to say her asthma really acts up. What ever you want to call it, she is very sensitive to smoke.
I do know someone that has to ask hotels and ships (cruises) to do a special kind of room cleaning because if someone has been smoking in that room the residue will set off her allergies and she can't breath. Even though she can't smell it, her lungs can tell when someone has smoked in a room. Apparently there is a special kind of cleaning they can do for people like her, but it's not fun.

BTW I am able to sit right next to her and vape away. No coughing at all, but the minute a smoker enters the room, she will start coughing.

That's kinda what I meant, maybe allergies wasn't the right word, but I know some people are sensitive to analog smoke.

and dispute the charges.

My company got hit because one of my employees was smoking outside out a side door with no ashtray so rather than litter he brought them back to the room in his trashcan.
Stupid employee - hope they dopn't have to think on their feet in their job position! Flush them down the toilet - duh?? LOL

There are really people that are allergic to smoking? AND there are people that are allergic to smoke residue on the walls? That's pretty far fetched to me...

I know a few people who claim to be allergic to smoke. Therefore, no one can smoke in their home or in their car and they don't go to smoking homes or ride in cars where people smoke. BUT....come Saturday night. they are the first ones in the smoke filled bar. hmmmmmmm

oh I would of raised hell.

I figured I was smoking but what I was really curious about was how the hell they could know. It was no more than 2 cigs with the window open and blowing it out the window. I probably had more of a smell on my clothes and suitcase than anything. I guess I could have used that as a defense?!

I was in Boston this past July at a conference, that's when I found SE. Yes, I bought one, that lead to my quitting analogs. I showed it to the managers at the hotel and asked them if it was okay to use in my non-smoking room. They were ALL interested and said it would be fine with them! Every place in Boston is NO SMOKING, but all seem open to vaping. Hopefully I'll find the same thing in Texas next July! Here's hoping!

Well, I'm a former 2 ppd smoker, been vaping for about 10 weeks now. Wife & I just returned from a 4-day weekend in Chicago where we had a non-smoking room in A NON-SMOKING HOTEL. While she was at her conference meetings I spent a lot of time in our room reading, watching tv and vaping constantly. AFAICT, nobody noticed the vaping, but when I left the room and walked to the elevator lobby I definitely smelled cigarette smoke, quite strong, pretty much all over the 15th floor. I could never see smoke but could smell it. Don't know if it was a guest or hotel staff.

The point is, I'm surprised at how obvious it was, even to me.

That's great Grammie! That's prolly the only reason why I would even bring it up to the hotel managers: Spreading the word! Awesome job! I hope the people in Texas will be nice about it as well.

It's amazing how messed up our sense of smell was when we were actively using analogs isn't it?

OK Last business trip I took I was stuck in a car for 7 hours with non smokers.... camel snus did NOT cut it and I got in my king suite, poured a HEFTY Laiphroig, dumped my aching carcass on the bed and lit up and looked for an ashtray...

I was supposed to be in a smoking king room......I was there when the reservations were made.
I was 3 good deep pulls on my smoke when it was noticed...So I put it out and hauled .... to the front desk in the I am so sorry mode.

I ended up getting moved to a king suite, it was AWESOME!!
Spiral stair case, 4 tvs, wifi, 2 couches, a cali king pillow topped bed with THICK comforters and a 50" big screen.

I was tempted to call in sick and just stay there all morning.

Ah Dredbull! I've tried snus how can you do it? maybe I did it wrong but it wasn't a pleasant experience for me!

Though I wish I had been in that nice room! Sounds like a great place to relax and just be away from it all.

The by-product of vaping is nothing more than exhaling with flavor. When it's really cold outside and you exhale, what you see in the air is vapor from your lungs. It's the same thing. There's no smoke, no ash and no tobacco used in the process. That is OUR perspective on being allowed to Vape anywhere we wish.
Besides, Even Arnold the gov. of one of the most restrictive states in America says it's OK to Vape in his state. That's really saying something in a state that has non-smoking towns.

Now, here comes the hitch.
Any business owner has the right to ask you to leave if he feels that anything you are doing might make other patrons uncomfortable. I learned this when I was asked to leave a restaurant when another patron noticed that I was carrying my pistol even though I am licensed to carry it in my state. The owner asked me to take it out to my car and only then would I be allowed back in to enjoy my meal. So, if no one had noticed my pistol in the restaurant, it being there, would never have become an issue. I feel vaping would fall into the same catagory in any place of business that serves the public.
If the hotel doesn't know that your vaping in their non-smoking rooms, there really should not be any problem at all.

My apologies if this topic has been discussed previously.

I travel a great deal on business, and always booked "Smoking" rooms at hotels.

I checked in to a hotel yesterday, a "smoking" room. All the "smoking" rooms are on the same floor. When I exited the elevator, the stench of cigarette smoke hit me like a baseball bat. ECCH!!!

I'm going to go out on a limb and book a non-smoking room (at a non-smoking hotel) next week.

For me, this will be a test case if there is an objection to my "vaping." But, as I'm not fouling the atmosphere, I doubt it'll be an issue.

I'll let you know how it goes.

I work for Marriott and often stay over at my hotel when the weather is bad. All of the rooms are non-smoking (with a $250 dollar surcharge and for me, a loss of a job). I vape in them all the time and nothing has ever been said about it.

Personally, if I saw people vaping in the lobby and common areas while I was working it would be a non-issue as long as my smoke alarms didn't go off.

That snus stuff is just painful to me. Used it for a while when I was failing to quit but too proud (see also cowardly) to admit it to the family...it's surprising the kind of pain you can ignore when its your pride on the line. ;)

As for the hotels...I was always an outside smoker, but I stayed at a motel 6 last April and I thoroughly enjoyed being able to light up inside (had a smoking room) and play wow on my laptop. The room smelled just fine and the quality feeling of the rooms was the same in the smoking rooms as in the non-smoking rooms. (made a female friend during my stay, nonsmoker ;)

I've noticed that the majority of people who see someone vaping first show signs of disgust (smokers skip this step) then curiosity once they realize that you just put your cigarette into your pocket. Had a few girls at a mall ask me to pull it back out and blow the vapor on em.
I think the best way to distinguish vaping from smoking would be to use e-cigs in colors you wouldn't see in an analog with any color LED but the standard fire color. Should make it easier to avoid persecution in those rare cases.
