My apologies if this topic has been discussed previously.

I travel a great deal on business, and always booked "Smoking" rooms at hotels.

I checked in to a hotel yesterday, a "smoking" room. All the "smoking" rooms are on the same floor. When I exited the elevator, the stench of cigarette smoke hit me like a baseball bat. ECCH!!!

I'm going to go out on a limb and book a non-smoking room (at a non-smoking hotel) next week.

For me, this will be a test case if there is an objection to my "vaping." But, as I'm not fouling the atmosphere, I doubt it'll be an issue.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Heck I've actually smoked in non smoking rooms without problems. (Yes, I'm one of "those" guys). Many times it would be late, I would be extremely tired, only to check into a hotel and find they have no smoking rooms available, so I'd make one. Only one time have I ever had a problem. I was staying in a motel that had no smoking rooms available, yet I smoked, hid the ash trays (I carry my own) and sprayed the room down with air freshener (well I THOUGHT it hid it, lol). After about 3 or 4 days housekeeping left me a snotty note about being in a non smoking room and if I continued they would charge me for a cleaning, so I left one back stating they knew they were putting a smoker long term in a smoking room. My end result was that they moved me to a smoking room, and discounted my bill for the inconvenience of having to move. I ended up with a nice suite, at the regular room price plus the discount.

I guess my point is, since vaping doesn't stink up the place and you won't burn anything, they aren't going to know or care.

If the policy is "no smoking in this room" you are complying with the policy if you vape. Vapor is not smoke.

The purpose of the non-smoking rooms is so that a smoker's cigarette smoke does not annoy the other guests and require their staff extra cleaning in the room. Since vapor does not annoy others or make extra work for them, they really shouldn't care what you do as long as it doesn't produce smoke.

But, a word to the wise who may smoke still: some hotels will charge you a fairly substantial sum if you smoke in their non-smoking rooms. So watch it. (Others don't really care. You sign a form when you check in that has the smoking "fee" on it.) I say "substantial" because it is much more than the fine one gets around here for smoking in a restaurant. If you smoke in a restaurant here, you are fined $50; if you smoke in a hotel that doesn't allow it, they charge you $250.

I did this once. I was on the top floor, it was late at night and I stood at the window with it open. I still got an extra charge on my credit card with no warning (like a hundred dollars or something like that...it's been a few years ago). Needless to say if stepped outside after that!!!:mad::mad:

oh I would of raised hell.

It actually takes a considerable amount of money to clean a room that has been smoked on to make it safe for someone who might be allergic. I am not going to feel too sorry for you if you are caught red handed!

I doubt you would find any residue from vaping left in the room so yes I would feel quite comfortable vaping in a non smoking room.

We used to get the smoking rooms on trips away but this year we decided since we were vaping to get a non-smoking room. Wow! Now I know who gets all the best rooms! Plus, we weren't sent to the top floor for a room. Apparently the smokers get the top floor so the smoke doesn't go up through the other rooms. Ground floor was nice.

so the fire starts up top and give non-smokers time to get out.

and dispute the charges.

My company got hit because one of my employees was smoking outside out a side door with no ashtray so rather than litter he brought them back to the room in his trashcan.

Wow that's harsh. They should at least be thankful enough that the employee didn't just flick the bud outside!

I guess they should rather do that *shrugs*

In my opinion, I don't agree with smoking (analogs) in a non-smoking room (for allergy reasons) but I can't say I haven't done it. Not knowingly doing it but I've done it. (my ex check the hotel when we went out of town.) But still I don't agree with it.

Vaping, is a completely different story though....

In fact all your doing is making the room fresher by being a walk in plug-it-in!

There are really people that are allergic to smoking? AND there are people that are allergic to smoke residue on the walls? That's pretty far fetched to me...

You are correct, cigarette smoke is a irritant, not a allergen. Its always more dramatic for the anti's to claim "I'm allergic to cigarette smoke", acting like they have a medical condition.
Having said that if you are a asthmatic that reacts to cigarette smoke, your bronchial tubes can become restricted due to irritation but not to a allergic reaction. But so will sniffing ammonia.

After reading PTJD's response I'm editing to say her asthma really acts up. What ever you want to call it, she is very sensitive to smoke.
I do know someone that has to ask hotels and ships (cruises) to do a special kind of room cleaning because if someone has been smoking in that room the residue will set off her allergies and she can't breath. Even though she can't smell it, her lungs can tell when someone has smoked in a room. Apparently there is a special kind of cleaning they can do for people like her, but it's not fun.

BTW I am able to sit right next to her and vape away. No coughing at all, but the minute a smoker enters the room, she will start coughing.
