Hey everyone…. I haven’t posted in a while, but I’ve been lurking. Like many of you, I was genuinely saddened by last night’s post from Mike…. And ultimately left wondering what positive adjustments might be considered to ease at least some of the tension.

The last entry to the Zen Alert page was June 9th…. Almost a month ago. Would a regular, weekly update to this page help stem at least some of the questions? Ease some of the pressure of Mike’s visits to his own thread? Just as importantly, ease some of the uncertainty of those unable (or unwilling) to keep up with this wildfire of a thread?

Mike obviously feels compelled, and ultimately does answer their questions so I don’t’ think I’m proposing anything that would be any more time consuming than what he’s already committed to do. Just wondering if it might be helpful to change the timing a bit and be more proactive instead of re-active.

Mike… You know what orders you have in house and their status, you know where you’re at with the existing lists…. And it would seem logical that lists will always be around in some form or fashion if you’re going to continue to produce surprise, one off specials like the AYS and ASH out of HoH direct.

You know what production problems you’ve come up against with your suppliers that week and how they will affect deliveries. I could be very wrong, but I’m thinking it would not be THAT difficult to guess or estimate what three quarters of the questions / concerns will be in a given week… MANY in fact, for the time being anyway, are the same from week to week. At least until production is up, distributors in place and the immediate ramp up “Crisis” put behind you.

Are the ZAPs ready?

When will the Pink Pachela be available?

Have you found distributors yet?

I didn’t get a payment notice, but Johnny did…. Am I still on the list, is everything ok?

Is my AYS on its way back?

And so on and so forth….

Questions that keep coming up you just cut and paste the same Q & A. i.e. “How do I order one of your products?” or “Why haven’t I been notified after signing up on HoH?” No change in status, cut and paste last week’s Q & A and say “No change in Status as of this new date”. Major updates you could handle yourself…. Minor ones you could just scribble some update notes and send it to one of the moderators to clean-up and post in the Alert Page.

I just think SOME KIND OF INFORMATION, known to all to be recent, regular and coming from Mike could go a long way to chill people out. The Alert Page hasn’t been up dated in a month and yet a lot has happened that affects production and distribution that folks are unaware of…. Or at best miss because it’s buried in the thread somewhere. People get concerned when they don’t hear anything for a week, or 2, or 10 and start second guessing themselves.... Start second guessing the system. Things go south from there.

Of course not everyone will check the Zen Alerts…. Many won’t even know they exist. When questions pop up and someone that has actually READ the most recent update on the Zen Alert Page see it (of which there will be many), they can direct the person to the recent update. You could even have one of the Moderators post and re-post the update in the thread several times during the day prior to your Thursday evening visits. Kind of a pre-invasion target softening if you will. (Not a great analogy I know, but it almost seems to fit today.)

Will this take care of every question? Of course not. But would a more strategically placed investment of time… No more than what's being spent now in the heat of battle so to speak… be of benefit to all involved?

There’s no getting around human behavior… It is what it is. There will always be those that for whatever reason don’t want, or don’t have time to become part of this community, yet would still like to own one of Mike’s devices. If Mike chooses to continue to grow his business and hopefully make a profit, I wouldn’t imagine he can afford to leave those folks behind. There will always be those that cut corners, or try, those that cut throats by re-selling at highly inflated prices and those that quietly, patiently, wait. Seems like one has to take the good with the bad as the full spectrum of human behavior will inevitably be represented in the group this large… and anonymous. There is no ultimate answer… I’m just trying to think of ways the sharp edges can be softened somewhat.

To one degree or another, people get freaked out when they’re uncertain about something…. Especially a bunch of addicts looking for the next cool tool. And if you don’t believe being an addict, or being a recovering addict has an effect on behavior around here I think you’re kidding yourself. Whether it’s our addiction to nic, or the next cool tool, I personally believe it’s a force to be taken under consideration. Most keep it well under control… Some do not.

One obvious common denominator is that we ALL want to know what’s going on in the HoH shop and WHEN CAN I buy SOMETHING? It occurred to me that perhaps a more regular and timely flow of information might ease uncertainty and tensions for many. You’re typing your ... off these daze anyway Mike… Much of the time, recently anyway, in distress or dismay. Maybe trying to get ahead of the inevitable question curve and eliminating some of the uncertainty could help.

Best to all…

Steve

You nailed it Steve.

No worries you admitted it was a mistake, you apologized for it and you tried to make it right. That is all you can do. How does it go? "Let those who have not sinned be the first to cast stones?" Where the heck is j_fro?

Quite right; more importantly (in the context of this thread) Zen~ himself has done this, jumped to conclusions, made a fumble, apologized humbly and we all applauded him for it (remember his mis-reading of *ASH*'s use of English, for example).

I cannot see how this is all that much different - hang loose, 'Dogg; you merely have proven you are Homo Sapiens. :) :) :)

Hiya Tiff...... How's the coils coming?

Hi Katz... I had the EXACT problem with my AYS that you had. Ended up sending it back to Mike for a look see. It acted up on him the same way it had acted up on me. He put my switch screw in his Standard and it started acting up as well.

He discovered what he thought was some kind of coating on the screw head. Perhaps, we thought, it was the Deoxit I had put on the switch that caused the problem. After thinking about it the only problem I have with that theory is I was already having the problem before i bought the Deoxit. Wouldn't have bought it other wise.

I was very interested to see your pictures of the ends of your batteries..... Mine are indentical. Very happy to hear you had the wherewith all to hunt the problem down and KILL IT! I'm looking forward to getting my AYS back!

When do you expect to get yours back? I would really be curious to know if Mike still has it an had a chance to look at it with a microscope or strong magnifying appliance. There would be no way to know about this in advance unless Mike got one of the screws with the defect himself.

OMG, I just caught the news about the heatwave in the USA. I feel so bad for all of you suffering. Temperatures of 41 to 45 Celsius is not something I would ever want to have to deal with. We complain here when the temp gets above 25 and there is an extreme heat warning at 30. I will be praying for some relief in the form of rain and cooler temps for you guys. We have just got the forecast for here and are expecting 5 days or more of above 25 and I am dreading it. I can only imagine how badly you are suffering there. My heart goes out to you.

{{{{hugs to all of you}}}}

It's supposed to be headed back my way this coming Monday. I don't know how he might have detected whatever coating was on there without looking at it via some magnification. I don't know JACK about the Deoxit I put on there. That brand name popped up here when I was posting about my troubles so I went out and bought some. That was after I sanded the screw head.... But not nearly as much as you apparently sanded yours.

It is my understanding he simply replaced the screw, tested it and vaped it for a day reporting that it was now chugging like a little train. Dunno if he still has the original screw or not.

Hello all, I received my Standard today and all I gotta say is it ROCKS!! Waiting for my Mawn DT's then it'll be all set, got my Caravela DT on it at the moment. Not experiencing any malfunctions. Man it puts out huuuuge plumes and great taste!!!!!
My only question is; are the switches normally a little wobbly when standing on end?

A little wobble is normal. As long as it doesn't fire when you put it down, I wouldn't worry...

I only own one... an AYS. And have only had it in my possesion for a couple of weeks, but I think thats the nature of the beast. I put mine in a coffee cup when not in use so as to not let it fall over and break the tank.

Now that I think about it mine seems to be much less wobbly and now stands straight up instead of leaning to one side a bit. That makes sense too considering what it looked like before I sanded it.

Edit: The sandpaper I used was black emery cloth at 400 grit. Not the brown stuff.

It was 38C here in Indiana today and I drive a truck with no air conditioner that overheats on a regular basis...probably around 49C in the cab. This week has been brutal! And due to the holiday, I get to work tomorrow too! :(

Good news is it's supposed to cool off come Sunday.
