I guess it's actually two Ds........... CADD = Computer Aided Drafting and Design. The other half of that is CAM.... CADD CAM. Computer Aided Manufacture.
Glad I could help in your next life's career path Tiff!
CADD makes it possible for idiots to draw, I'm a steel detailer and I hate CAD, it has prety much extinguished my profession. It used to be people with skillls in math and geometry, who could see things in 3D, were considered skilled craftsman, now we are an anachronism. I still draw by hand, that's why I got into the profession, to be a manufacturing artist and now computers have taken away a lot of that from me. The crappy thing is is that I am just as fast and far more accurate, kids these days don't even try to see if things they design can, in fact, be fabricated (every material has its limits) and when construction was still strong I used to have to review every plan I drew from for technical impossibilities -- and then I'd have to send off faxes to correct the plans that the customer had paid big bucks for because no one is actually being taught how to draw the building themself anymore, they don't know machines and programs lie......

Sorry, rant over, not all computer things are good for humanity nor completely accurate -- skynet is coming!!!
