morning all.

my cc number was hacked and I have the joy of dealing with that today. I have to figure out a way to purchase more safely. I am pushing for retina scans :)

pchela, get her the dog! I am a bad influence.

I think everyone is off reading that UK/TW stuff. I do not really get it, but it seems sad for all involved.

hope everyone has a good day!

She's 17. I was in tears last night - I hate to see her unhappy but we just can't get a dog. She was really pushing too - something she rarely does. It's going to turn into a full fledged fight if she can't reign herself in. :(

Picking up on what LadyStrick9 was saying...maybe a trip to the animal shelter, or pet shop or breeder and an explanation from THEM on what a Husky needs, i.e., space and ability to exercise outside, would get through to her? Then you are not the enemy any longer; she needs to hear it from someone other than her parents.

Please don't. Don't take a kid asking for a dog to an animal shelter. You will come back with a dog.

As a Husky owner, I would also suggest not to bring a husky into an apartment. Try other lovable fluffy breeds like a collie mix that needs less space - if you are open to getting a dog.

Ok, maybe not a shelter; but SOMEWHERE were someone can talk to her and make her understand apartment living not conducive to dog, particularly that breed.

Hi OB, I went thru this recently and got some really good tips from my bank's fraud expert. She said to open a second account and only transfer the amount you need for purchases you've made into that account. Never keep extra. And only use THAT account for online purchases. She also told me when entering my credit card info and the site will ask "do you want to save this information", NEVER say "yes".

Almost everyone in my family has been hit in the past few months and several other people I know. It's getting very concerning to me. Some people use a pre paid credit card for this very reason.

Good luck :)

Sounds like a good idea but I tried that once (when she was 12 and wanted a dog) - took her to the shelter and all the people did was try to push a dog on us and told us how easy they were and all of the positive things. Isn't that terrible??? I clearly was saying - we're in an apartment, not good for a big dog - etc, etc.

Thanks for all of the advice - she is being incredibly manipulative and pushy about this so I am just going to have to be strong and have her mad at me.

OB - did you not see the part about 3 parrots and a cat? In an apartment? And she wants a Husky? With a strong prey instinct and tons of energy??? No way!!!

I would do it, but I'm not comfortable with the overseas shipping...

overseas shipping is not the problem, but waiting time really is annoying.
who bought the 26650 zenesis in the past? i ll trade my half lung for it. Maybe other not needed parts :D

yes overseas shipping isnt really any less safe, its just a little longer and more costly. I think its $17 for international priority from the US.

I replied to the other post before I read this one - yeah, I agree. No animal shelter.

And I'm not open to getting a dog at all. And she doesn't want a small dog that would be appropriate for an apartment anyway so... I have more than I can handle with the birds and cat (well, the cat is low maintenance) - and who do you think would be taking care of the dog?

She'll hate this suggestion but hear me out. After I separated from my now ex-wife, who kept our dog, I got very lonely and wanted to get something. Dog or cat, wasn't sure. I missed having an animal companion around. So what I did was got a volunteer position at my local animal shelter. I volunteered every Sunday morning for 3 or 4 hours for about 2 years.

It was great. I got time with the animals (they sometimes wanted dogs walked) and after I was there for a while I felt better and went on my way. Sure, I eventually adopted a dog from there when after a year or so, but it filled the void I had at the time. Most of my time was cleaning and feeding, but there was ample play time, and I was welcome to pop in more or less whenever I wanted to see the dogs or cats.

It was like pet ownership but less commitment (which is my thing).

And, you also get to experience the not so "happy fun time" of having a dog when you're shoveling crap or scraping it off the walls. But she has to know, those are all part of having the dog.

I'm sure she won't go for it, the only 17 year old volunteers at my shelter were there doing community service for being dumbasses.

EDIT: Sorry, working on being a better listener and less of a problem solver. Clearly the shelter deal is out, and it sounds like your shelter sucks, since we were pretty reluctant to push dogs on anyone. You needed references where I was
