If you are in need of decent painkillers/muscle relaxants try Vicodin and Soma. Have a bad back and they do the trick for me.
Best to stick with ibuprofen if you can, though.

Tried a vicodin yesterday and it did nothing for me

Hot damp towels would work better than a heating pad.
