I'm not sure I would do this.. There is a chance that the washer gets "stuck" diagonally bridging the battery / screw head and "could" cause it to fire without the button being pressed... :2c:

Can I weigh in on this? I tried using the washer under the screw head as mentioned , but it wound up denting in the bottom of my battery. So instead I just lay the washer on top of the screwhead in the switch and put it back together like that. makes the contact area larger and it isn't denting my batteries anymore.

Can you describe what it looks like if you fire with the top cap off in your normal vaping position? Sounds like its starving for juice a little, and my guess is the top of the wick may dry out quickly / the top coil may start glowing pretty quickly..?

It's a six wrap coil that Mike wrapped, himself, I hadn't even rebuilt it yet since he gave it to me.

The burning is like a dry, kind of metallic taste but there's juice flavor, too. There are six wraps, it meters at about 2.3 ohms and the voltage is at 4.5.

Minor Details
I don't believe so.....the zen design eliminates all the gaps except the gap between a depressed and undepressed firing switch. This gap isn't large enough to allow the washer to turn diagonally once installed. The only way would be to install the switch with the washer already in a diagonal position and you would notice this when the switch wouldn't screw in fully. respectfully submitted for your consideration.

Agreed that the tolerances in there are great, and it would be highly unlikely to cause a problem, but I'm still not sure I'd personally want to run that way.
I will say, that early on I thought I had some problems with the switch, but I realized that all of the problems I thought I had were actually problems with my coils in on way, shape, or form. Other than the occasional cleaning, I trust the switch as is now, and fix any problems I have at their root.. YMMV

If that's what you saw, the problem is either a minor short at your top coil, or you're not getting enough juice wicking problem. Any way you can post a pic of your wick / coil?
If not, can you fire again with the cap off at various "degrees" of angles and see where you see that stops happening?
If the top coil still dries out / glows at a position where the lower coils start bubbling, its a problem with your coil, if that doesn't happen, we can try a few other things.

Yep that's what it was doing. I dry burned until all glowed orange.

In between plastic and screw head, it's just a spacer to make firing easier.

I think I've had it wrong for a few weeks... also never took the switch apart and cleaned it since the day I got it in early July. I put it under the screw head last night and suddenly it was much easier to fire. DERP

My mistake was the occasional cleaning LOL. I recoiled, rewicked, messed with it and messed with it and had inconsistent firing, thought there was something wrong with my batteries doing OK for an hour and getting 1/2 the vape. Take apart and clean the little black specks from everything inside the switch.... and I'm good to go.

Yeah, there's not doubt that a good cleaning is still important. I try to do mine about every two weeks, but it typically ends up being closer to a monthly event..
And, on the topic, I know many have had great success with nolax, etc, but I just clean with PGA and put it back together. Clean stainless doesn't tend to attract dirt and debris as easily..
